  1. Davis did misplace a few passes yesterday and as you say did miss a sitter. Many players have a poor game when they come back from an injury. I voted for Morgan as MOM, he also made several uncharacteristic errors, misplacing about the same number of passes as Davis, but was superb for our second goal. It happens, there really wasn't anyone who played well yesterday (apart from Kelvin perhaps, and even he shanked one kick out which made everyone in the ground whince). The only other one I can think of that didn't make a notable mistake was Yoshida. Jose was guilty of slack backpassing and the result was almost calamitous. There are one or two on here who just show their complete ignorance, unless it is something else, every time they repeat their remarks about Davis being cack. They are probably the same ones who used to slate Matt Oakley. Certain "fans" may watch football, but are sadly incapable of understanding it and what certain players bring to a side.
  2. Here is a good point that doesn't often get noted. He was very good yesterday in defence, at least two powerful headed clearances. I remarked to my neighbour about it, and we agreed that perhaps he would be better as a defender :-) He won both headers very cleanly and it was puzzling why he can't do the same up front. Very please that he scored yesterday, and maybe it will be the start of a new scoring spree for him, but have to say up until when he actually scored he was woeful as a striker, even blocking efforts of other players. Those who say his hold up play is good really can only be basing this on how it was early in the season, and not on the evidence of the game itself, certainly in the first half yesterday every ball given to him came back straight away. Then again he was really no worse than anyone else (Kelvin excepted) in the first 45 minutes. 10 men were absolutely dreadful first half, fortunately Hull are completely inept in front of goal. Trying to say that it was Hull playing well is a complete nonsense, we were awful, even Ron said himself that he did recognise his team during that period, which for Ron who seldom criticises is a daming indictment of the way we were playing. Second half much better, after Ron revised the tactics, some credit for this to JWP who looked much better yesterday, even aside from the goal.
  3. On the other hand Dorset police would be delighted.
  4. They'll always be a Hampshire team as far as I'm concerned, the boundary changes in the 1970s are completely artificial. Bournemouth was in Hampshire (or more precisely the County of Southampton) when it was founded in the 19th century. They are Hampshire's second club and long may they remain so.
  5. Perhaps it was just his way of wishing Sadio a happy birthday.
  6. Yes, sure glad that we don't need to sign any of those players again, Ball, Osgood, Mills (Mick), Armstrong, Keegan, Shilton, Worthington, McCalliog, Ruddock. ****e the lot of them Charlie was a big deal when we signed him, and he was top drawer but sadly only very briefly.
  7. I thought this thread was about defectors, not defectives.
  8. Yes, it is clear in the referenced article: When the domestic cup winners also qualify for the Europa League through league position, their place through the league position is vacated. As a result, the highest-placed team in the league which have not yet qualified for European competitions qualify for the Europa League, with the Europa League qualifiers which finish above them in the league moved up one "place" if possible.
  9. After 2nd Sunday in April, i.e. Sunday 12th. So one more game to go.
  10. Its not hard to know that for a team that can't score goals we need more than just a striker to compete with Pelle. Obviously we will have to replace what goes, and I imagine Clyne and Morgan will go, but we have a major task to make things work up front and provide strength in depth if we qualify for Europa. Having JRod back will hopefully help.
  11. Might help his international claims if he joined a team that was recognised by Les Bleus as having international players. He will not get recognised at Stoke whatever Sparky thinks. In The Times on Saturday, not sure whether Brendan McLoughlin (author) is a football man or not, and thus whether his opinion is recognised as valid by some of the dullards on this forum.

    Fair point.
  13. Football people, hah. What do they know?
  14. This appears to be codswallop written by football people. To be honest Kelvin is not really the problem. He is a great shot stopper, but fortunately his weaknesses are not being exposed too much by our superb defensive 6. I goal conceded in 2 games. Just such a shame about those up front.

I've already put my answer in. Already said I expect him to improve. That doesn't alter the fact that here and now he is not good enough for a top 7 PL team. Have to say, and pleased to do so, that what I saw of yesterday's game he was having a good game, until he was strangely subbed off. His shot that Howard saved was extremely good. Maybe the expected improvement is beginning to appear. Let's hope so. I actually think that part of the issue with him (other than the facts that he is awfully slow, cannot tackle and his a liability to the defence) is that he does not fit well into Koeman's style. England u21 play a different system, as do England, maybe if he improves the other aspects of his game he could be good for the national team/u21s. But I really don't care too much about that, my interest is Saints first and foremost.

It was great when you weren't here for a while. So Roy Hodgson thinks JWP is great, well never mind if you think that is a ringing endorsement. Your recall of what I thought about Tadanari Lee (at least I recall his name) is somewhat defective, like the rest of your memory and posts. On the evidence of his first few games he looked good, injuries (self inflicted) cost him, doesn't mean he wasn't good at the time. Problem with you, like one or two others on here, is that you cannot move on and see that things change over time, just because someone was good or bad once doesn't mean things don't change over time. Just as I expect JWP to improve over time, but at least I don't have the blinkered view of you that he is some god-like gifeted player and because a few **** journos who hardly ever see him play and probably wouldn't recognise him if they saw him say he is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I watch him week in week out and can see his limitations, because even a blind man could see them. Now, toddle off back toyour grab a granny night because clearly it is something you know a lot about (I suppose there has to be something that you have expertise in).
  17. So why didn't Ron start Mane? Why would he have been tired. Senegal played one international friendly during the break, and it was played in Le Havre, France last Saturday. Mane played 90 minutes, no great issue there. Not sure there was much luck about yesterday, it wasn't luck that Howard made two great saves, it wasn't bad luck that JWP missed the free kick, however close it may have been. Not blaming Koeman, he is constrained by lack of options at the moment, misfiring strikers and ineffective attackers, though at he is at least partly responsible for bringing them in. Fail to see any reason why we would convert Elia or Djuricic into permanent signings for next season. Without Steve Davis we don't have the pace and energy in AM to make too much happen, not that he would have scored of course, but he does make things happen, assisting the assists so to speak.
  18. No, no, no, burn the witch. How dare anyone question any of our players when we have had such a great season. Heretic. We have an exceptional back 7 (though I still have some misgivings about Forster, and really not happy having good old Kelvin as backup/playing) and we "play out of a good organisation". But quite honestly up front, I would not be unhappy or surprised if any of our current attacking options were upgraded (possible exceptions Mane and hopefully JRod). I like Davis and Long, but we could do better.

Must be true if that bunch of farts say it. Really people do believe some rubbish. That said, England midfield is crap so maybe not as completely stupid as might be expected from that source.
  20. God this response is so tiresome. Yes we are, and we could have been even better if we had a striker. He has made almost no difference this season, in terms of stats 2 points gained. Just be cause we have done well doesn't mean that there are some passengers.
  21. In my opinion the make up of the top 4 is settled after today's results. I can't see Man U losing 8 points to Liverpool in 7 games. What order the top 4 will be is a different matter. Optimistically we could still get 5th, but afraid that our poor strike rate will cost us. Poor decision by the Club in January.
  22. So Burley reckons that Fonte could even make John Terry look good Would seem like a bit of a mistake playing Fonte on the left and Terry on the right though.
  23. Kenwyne equalises 3 minutes after coming on.

    Pelle?

We aren't a newspaper, they hate us as a football team Anyway, ignoring that, why would he want to leave us? (1) Because he wants to play in Italy, where he has never been able to shine before (2) Because he wants to live in Italy (3) Because he wants to play in the CL Other than that, difficult to know.
