  1. Clearly showing one again your ignorance about Oakley. Had one very bad injury in his whole career, and worked his way back to fitness. To bracket him with the others that you did illustrates once again your knowledge of football knows no bounds. I suspect you never actually saw him play. If you were consistent you would at least be blaming Gormless George for his departure. Over 300 appearances for Saints would suggest he was in no way a treatment table blocker.
  2. 12st 1lb and 5' 10" on the day he was born, must have given his mother a hard time!! There is no enigma, Matt was a great player for us, in another era (like now) he would have got closer to the England midfield than he actually did despite what WGS said. Another one of Burley's major cock-ups, just when Matty was getting back to form after his horrendous injury Gormless George makes him feel unwelcome. He should have made him skipper and he would still be with us now and we wouldn't have needed Hammond. People who did not think he was good did not understand football and that there are different needs in midfield, Matty was nearly always asked to play the defensive role, breaking up play in front of the back 4. His tackling was as good as anyone and he was often the last defender keeping us in a game. On the rare occassions he was allowed a more attacking role he showed what he could do, Millwall if I recall was one such rare occassion. A very loyal player who was unfairly shown the door to all intents and purposes and we were the poorer for it.
  3. OMG here we go again, the childish accusations of the being pro-Cortese if you don't agree with one of the vocal minority who seems to have a grudge and need to form themselves into school playground gangs, you're not in my gang you are in the pro-Cortese gang. 99% of SFC Supporters are neither pro or anti-Cortese, no one actually gives a flying **** about Cortese, he is just the current Chairman of the Football Club. There are 2 sides to this story, none of us know the full facts about both sides. Just because the other party to this dispute is an "untouchable" then everyone else has to be wrong. This stance against anything Cortese does is just so irrational, but of course GM knows better and I am sure will now label me as pro Cortese because it is the only way he can deal with life, pigeon-holing everyone and not understanding that there are shades of grey. 'Charging for car parking - get out into the real world, many companies do the same, or do not provide sufficient parking on site. Not nice, but reality. Mrs Cortese's manicures - who cares if they get paid for by the Club, it is Liebherr/Cortese that put the money in so if they agree, fine by me. If we were a plc and watching every penny I would have a different view but we are not so I don't give a toss. And as for the Liebherrs not caring, well maybe thats true, but if it was I suspect they would have pulled the plug by now, in any case there appear to be other backers potentially lined up. GM - we don't really care about this, its a private spat between 2 people of Italian descent who seem to have fallen out over a private matter. Move on (bloody hell I wish there was game today so that we had something better to talk about).
  4. Is the said article online? It would be good to read it, I see lots of comments already presumably by others who have not read it either. One comment not about the article as such but about the Club distancing itself from the award for LM. I see this as a good thing. Quite frankly the Lifetime Achievement Award means far more having come from his peers/players than it would have done if it had been from the Club itself. I would be far more flattered to receive something from my friends and colleagues than from a new owner of a Club who has not been involved in any way from the achievements being honoured, and I think the Club were right to make clear this distinction. However, once again the ne'erdowells on here like to try and make out that there is something bad about the Club doing this.
  5. Would be a bit tough on Rochdale, playing 2 games in less than 24 hours including the journey back from Hartlepool the night before.
  6. Can only assume you are reading a different forum to me. My view of this forum is that it is dominated by a few who are so anti the current regime and make it look as though the entire fan base are up in arms at the way the club is run. It has become a very depressing place because of these few people, and I spend less and less time reading it as a result. People in the anti camp think that if you support anything the Club has done you are a Cortese luvvy. What a load of absolute crap. The truth is that 99% of supporters couldn't give a rats arse about the Chairman or the club management. They are interested in the success on the pitch of the team. Most supporters that I talk to don't have a clue about any politics, don't know who NI is, and frankly don't care. But if you come on this forum you get this anti stuff rammed down your throats by the small bunch of so-called supporters who have nothing positive to say about the club ever and are never satisfied. Don't get me wrong I was as anti Lowe as anyone, the guy was a complete and utter ****, though even then I have to admit that on the odd occassion he did some good things. But in those days most of the pro-anti Lowe stuff was banter and good humoured. Not now, some of the stuff against the current Chairman is in the gutter. The ones who complain about the "pro" Cortese folks are the ones who cannot cope with the fact that 99% of the football club supporters are relatively happy with the way things are going and cannot cope with seeing themselves being the ones who are often made to look silly by making false accusations and being proved wrong time and time again. Sadly one of the reasons things have gone wrong on this forum is because in the modern game of football clubbs do not let information out about what is happening due to the perceived need for commercial/sporting advantage and thus there is little to discuss on these boards - SFC is no different in this respect. The world has moved on, the good ole days of message boards has passed, they will live on but as the minority of negative moaners continue to hold sway their popularity will wane and their usefulness for finding out information about the Club will be minimal.
  7. If no one cares why would 10k Saints fans turn up looking for trouble? Can't have it both ways.
  8. Take a tip from me and chalk it up to experience. Has RL taken up snooker?
  9. As long as the 11 wins includes Brighton, Bournemouth and Charlton twice, then this should be enough. If we can avoid losing any of these 4 games it would be a bonus.
  10. More importantly they prevent other young talented players progressing
  11. Unfortunate the lads lost 2-1 to Pompey last week, bottom team beating top. Chelsea this week.
  12. Peachey only scored 2 at Swindon and 6 at Orient after he left us. Don't forget he also scored 30 for the Gills before he joined Saints. From being a legend at Saints he had a disaster at Swindon, not a happy time. Will never forget Peachey and Nicky Holmes at the IW Saints Supporters Club do "assisting" me as DJ. Brilliant night, 2 top blokes (them, not me).
  13. Did he play on the Wings?
  14. Unbelievable what some people seem to be able get away with in their comments. Shocking.
  15. He has taken longer to get to 50 than Big Ron did, yet he has only been with us for 1.5 seasons!!! Just goes to show how good Ron was in his day, not forgetting he did it in the top division as well. Still well done Ricky, 14 goals this season is still looking a healthy return, 5 in 3 games.
  16. What rubbish. Only the very bottom clubs in L2 have taken a risk with Pulis, Stockport, Lincoln and now Barnet. Yet even these team, all desparate for players because they have no money have not sought to keep him beyond his loan period and he has been hawked around (or hawked himself around) to one after another. 40 professional appearances in about 6 years demonstrates quite clearly that even L2 is beyond young Pulis on a regular basis. There have been ample opportunities for him to be siged permanently, no-one is interested, I would venture to suggest that we are also paying his wages, so that some of these hard-up teams can at least give him an opportunity. Sorry if you think this is unfair, but the truth hurts, some players have to realise that they are just not going to make it, and in fact are stopping younger players with more talent getting an opportunity they deserve. How you come to think that some people who make negative comments about the guy are bullies is also pitiful, you could not be further from the truth in fact, at least in my case. And now he has been sent off. So thats another game or 3 that Barnet will have to do without him, must be so pleased to have him on their books.
  17. Its part of his endearing quality, that he was (a) from Guernsey and (b) that he was lazy. He says as much himself. It is not an insult. When the phrase was originally introduced I seem to recall the poster was using it as a comparison, compared calling Cortest a slimy Italian (or something similar) with someone calling MLT the lazy Guernseyman. Still does not detract from the fact that MLT is not the brightest when it comes to media gaffs as he ably demonstrated in his book. Will never detract from his footballing ability or his legendary status.
  18. Nicholl, Warren and Woods Seems to be a very defence minded name
  19. Wayne Talkes was from the Isle of Wight like me, he went to the Fairway School in Sandown (I went to the Grammar next door, until the two were merged in 1970). He was on the books and regularly played for the Reserves at the same time as my "cousin" Brian Humber. Both ended up at Aldershot if I recall correctly. Brian never made a first team appearance, I think Wayne made a handful before he left. Sandown has quite a good reputation for young players, James Hayter is from there and for the older folks amongst us the Fulham, Bournemouth and Ipswich goalkeeper (not allowed to say Goalie evidently) Kieron Baker was a prefect at my school when I first joined.
  20. Most former Pompey players get the **** taken. Not sure Pulis counts as ex-Pompey given he made same number of appearances for them as he has for us. The joke here is that someone who shall remain nameless ever thought he would make it here and gave him a long contract and on terms which means he is happy to stay here with no chance of ever getting a game. Just because he is a Saints player, does not mean he deserves to be treated with respect as a player. Al Dia was a joke, but at least he made an appearance, albeit a brief one. This guy would not be a pro footballer if it wasn't for who his dad is, and the wages we are paying for him due to the mess that the former chairman made means that we will have had to ket at least one, pobably more talented youngster go as a result. That is the joke, and it is very sad for those kids who get left on the scrap heap because of this cock-up
  21. Good news, Pulis in the squad to play Torquay, looking good for the weekend for the Gulls before the League dock points for playing unregistered player. I was surprised by the comments on the Barnet site that suggested that young Pulis is in good condition, having "played plenty of football this season". Does 10 games for Stockport count as plenty of football? Still it does mean now that he has made 38 appearances as a professional footballer, thats almost a full season's worth, pity it has take 8 years to reach that number. Good luck Anth, hope they like you at Barnet, the number of clubs left that might be an option is dwindling fast.
  22. Let's hope Mackay still have a pitch to play on and facilities after the recent floods and cyclone
  23. Respect is something that is earned, it is not a right due because of some other event or events. I always respected MLT and even more so Lawrie Mac, but the respect they have previously earned has been severely eroded recently. I find it hard to take a bloke seriously who runs to the press to complain about not getting tickets for a game that he has no intention of attending anyway due to work commitments.
  24. I wonder why you left out MLT from this list but added Osman. Did it stick in the throat too much to accuse MLT of being an idiot?
