Hopefully we aren't the Chelsea of this League. I think we may need to do some business in the transfer window in January, whereas Chelski cannot, and I also like the fact that we still have some young players around unlike Chelski who have an aging team. I would prefer to compare us with Man City rather than old money like Chelski LOL

Seems far more likely than Downes to me, after all JG has unfinished business with Wycombe having left largely as a result of the very uinfortunate death of his wife. Perhaps he will ask Jason Dodd to be his assistant. Good luck to JG if this comes about, once upon a time he would have been good for us too, it was just very bad timimg when he actually got the chance.

We used to sing this reglarly in the early 70s after the original by Steam was popular in 1969. The words were very original, Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, Southampton, repeat ad nauseum I guess an updated version would be good, and Lallana scans well. On the other had we could just use the old words again for the team which is more important to me.

Chippenham still in after beating the Skates Reserves 2-1. Saints away to Chippenham still a possible.

Based on last 6 games we are the 4th best team
VectisSaint replied to St Marco's topic in The Saints
It was a draw, and always will be. We socred the same number of goals as Torquay during the period of normal play, ergo we drew. However, the rules of the competition require that in the event of a draw the tie will be decided by penalties. Therefore history will show that we progressed to the next round and Torquay were eliminated due to the way that drawn games are decided. The result of the Torquay game though is quite irrelevant, it is league matches against teams in the same division that matter and the 6 match form quide, which does not include the Torquay game is a good indicator of how we have been doing lately. 6 game form guides have been used as such for donkeys years. The one stat that doesn't lie is that at the end of today we will be 24th in Division 3. But a form guide is not an indication of where we will finish in the league, just how well we have been doing of late and possibly how we might fare in our next match. Where we will finish in the league also takes into account factors such as how many points we obtained during the first 6 games which account for approx 12% of the total points available. You can read what you want into all these stats, and the glass half full team will read them one way, while the glass half empty brigade will look at them another way. We should all just take heart that we have won 2 league games in less than a week, both convincingly and one at home and one away. No-one could argue with that being a good thing and something to be happy and encouraged about. -
Its not really the 1/4 final though, of course. It is only the regional 1/4 final, there are still 16 (17 actually) teams left.

Great result we could be off the bottom in 8 days time, and we're only 12 points off the play-offs Things are beginning to look a bit brighter.

Just goes to show that the Orange Order who were supposed to be great at working with youth had no idea, as they managed to make Lallana look very poor (and indeed he was awful even this season against Swindon for instance). But when you get good coaches, such as AP/DW and NP working with him he can be very good.

Yep, just like he was on Tuesday, do try to keep up...

Actually with the exception of Accrington, who are in dire financial straits, the above list shows that stability does provide some success. All the above apart for Stanley are actually performing pretty well in their own way (had to check the Daggers because I wasn't sure but 3rd in Div 4 is not bad)

Would be surprised if Lordswood was referring to you WestonSaint. I know who I thought it referred to when I read his reply, since he was quoting.

Full of gas?

Stats say he has made 1 appearance, none as sub... Overrated, largely because he lacked pace, though that could have just been another Burley legacy I suppose.

So that would explain why we spent 1m euros on Spiderman then. Its amazing that still now a small number of people don't understand that when JP was appointed we were not (totally) skint. We did not go over our overdraft limit until well into the season, as noted by Lowe himself. We were not awash with money when Poortvliet was appointed of course but things got worse afterwards. And the reason for that was because Lowe appointed JP (and Wotte) instead of realising that you can still be successful with no money by making sure you have the right manager/type of manager in place and not by mad experiments with untried inexperienced foreign coaches with no knowledge or understanding of the English league system.

Would this ex Saints side be competative in Premier?

Thought Davenport was seriously injured in a knife attack by his sister's boyfriend. A team that includes Quashie will get relegated... -
OK, me and my cyber gang will meet you by the cyber bike sheds

Saints away to Chippenham could be quite embarrassing for me, but could be quite good fun as well. Just need the Bluebirds to beat the Skates Reserves in the 3rd Q Round and it could be on. Adie Mings hosting Saints, never quite sure what his connection was with Saints, but there is one somewhere.

Disagree completely. Whether or not people on here have seen him play is irrelevant. We are not the people who determine whether or not he has a future career as a pro footballer. That is down to managers of various football teams that he has "played for" or been scouted for. Almost to a man (his old man being a slightly biased small exception) every manager he has been with has failed to select him for their team. They are the important views, not a load of cyber warriors on a message board. Pardew has made it clear that he does not fit into his plans, the same as most other managers. Chris Sutton has just started his first management job and sees some potential for a Division 4 side. Good luck to Chris, if he can get Ant to play then Sutton may turn out to be a better manager than Pardew and Pulis senior (jury out on that of course). I will confirm that I have never seen Pulis play, in common with almost everyone on here, because the fact is that he has not played for Saints 1st team, and has hardly played any 1st team games for anyone else either. Playing in reserve matches is hardly enlightening, but I guess does give some people a chance to boast proudly that "they saw Antony Pulis play football", something they can tell their grandkids in years to come. Any slagging off of Pulis on this board is warranted, not as a personal attack on the guy who I'm sure is a decent lad, but based on the hard fact that he is not a fully qualifed professional footballer. The ire directed at him is based on the fact that he was signed by Lowe and Agent Orange in a dodgy deal that did nothing positive for SFC, and perhaps contributed in a small way to our present predicament.
-
Not many are slagging Pardew, some would slag Fregie or Wenger if they were our manager and we had just won the Chumps League, it goes with the territory. Difference between Pearson and Pards though is that perason got 3 wins in Division 2, whereas Pards has 3 wins in Division 3. Simples. I think Pards will be fine, he has a good backup team in place (unlike Pearson) and has been able to almost completely replace the first team. It is clear that the squad he inherited was in a shambolic state inherited from Wotte and JP (not to mention Lowe), and much the same could also be said for Pearson after the disasters of Burley, Dodd and Gorman. Anyone who still cannot see that Pearson is actually a very good manager is a bit of a plank. He was well respected before he joined us for his coaching abilities especially with youngsters (cf England youth set up) and working with top class managers and Bryan Robson. He just needed the break and we gave it him. Our old friend MM knew what he was getting and Pearson has not disappointed thus far. It saddens me that he was treated so badly by Lowe but that was par for the course, and I am glad to see the guy doing so well, even if it is for the **** that is Milan!!

KD is and always has been dodgy. He has become a legend due to his fantastic shot stopping ability, especially last year when so often he stood between us and a good hiding. It does not however cover up his faults. He is dodgy with crosses, his positioning is poor and his distribution is suspect, and these faults make those in front of him nervous. He is still probably the best keeper in Div3 but his elevation to God-like status by some baffles me more than a little. I admire his loyalty when he turned down a payday at West Ham, but I do wonder whether we may have been better off if he had gone and we had replaced him along with the rest of the squad. Ducks for cover

How many players does it take before a team is entitled to postpone a game because of internatinal call ups. With the news today that Jake Thomson will be with the Soca Warriors at the weekend) and possibly Schneiderlin and Saga unavailable (the latter being no great loss IMHO) it must be getting near the point where we have some entitlement, technically, to postpone. I realise of the 3 only Spiderman is a regular at the moment. I assume there is a ruling for this just curious what it is. Are James, Jaidi and Papa involved in internationals? Mellis and Preen are also u19s I believe, not sure if they are playing this weekend or not though.

He is 25 and in 6 seasons has made 20 appearances for various clubs (including ones where his dad was manager), mostly as a sub. He may not be a fraud, but he clearly is not going to make it as a pro footballer at any decent level, maybe as a journeyman pro in Division 4 or the Conference. No disrespect to the "lad" (I guess at my age I can call him a lad) but he is just a reminder of the bad things that happened to our club last season, and the sooner the mistakes of Lowe, Wilde and the Ornage Order are sorted out the better. Good luck Ant, hope you find your level soon or find some other career to pay the bills.

Perhaps someone can update the thread title. Not sure Pulis counts as a player I don't understand why we have made an agreement that he cannot play for Lincoln in the FA Cup if we draw them in the 1st Round, we should have made it a condition that he does play, thus boosting our chances of winning LOL. Are we really that worried about his effectiveness that we would stop him playing against us.
-
Saga on the bench. Don't see point playing him he might not score. We can't rest everyone just because they might get injured, plan is to win the game, winning breeds confidence, therefore put out strongest team available, taking account players who may be carrying a knock already.
