  1. Battering them according to SSN. Against 10 men... surely we will lose this one.
  2. Aren't Scotland behind Maccedonia in their group? And they just got hammered by a terrible Norway team. No thanks.
  3. Ah, but this isn't your CV or your university (unless you're going to ask Baj and Ponty for a character reference).
  4. I see Jade Goody is still managing to grab irritating and pointless news stories from beyond the grave.
  5. I am too self concious to start it myself, but if it did catch on I would soil myself laughing.
  6. To the tune of Michael Jackson's 'Heal the World': Papa Smurf He's better in attack than Bradley or Marek or even Rasiak Games are [pause] never boring When Papa Waigo's scoring Score a wonder goal for you and for me For you and for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
  7. When I was at Spa, I'd have said Renault were the 2nd beest supported team there, which surprised me slightly. Whether this is the norm or it was just because of the proximity to France I don't know.
  8. Renault have now been called to an FIA hearing over the incident.
  9. You forgot the mighty Aledine Yahia and Lucien Mettomo.
  10. I'd have to disagree. Nobody spends more than that on CCC player. Nugent - £7m, Andy Johnson - £7m, Chopra - £5m Players like Obafemi Martins, Peter Crouch and Jermaine Defoe have gone for £10m, if you had that kind of cash to spend, why would you go for an unproven CCC player.
  11. If you got two, you wouldn't have to watch Saints defending set pieces.
  12. 2004/5 Season DVD. For the love of f**k why...
  13. Okay, although I would disagree that he was outshone by Heikki or Sutil.
  14. Yep. Just keep clinging in hope to that wild rumour. I know there is no evidence for it what-so-ever other than a miss-printed headline on the SSN news tape, but don't let that stop you.
  15. Pericard played in Italy in years gone by.
  16. Think that is a tad harsh on Fisi. 1997 - Outperformed Ralf at Jordan 1998 - 2001 - Outperformed Wurz and Button at Benneton 2002 - 2003 - Managed to win a race in the hugely uncompetitive Jordan. 2004 - Outperformed Massa at Sauber 2005 - 2007 - Okay Fernando well and truly had his number, but he is one of, if not the, most tallented driver on the grid. Heikki outperformed him in '07 but not by all that much. 2008 - present - Hasn't exactly been outperformed by Sutil and 2nd is by far the best result in the teams history. And it was on a dry track with a low attrition rate with genuinely competitive pace.
  17. Several points: 1. Burley may have stated his goal was to get into the playoffs, but what was to stop us getting automatic promotion? We had a core of experienced players and very tallented youngsters and he was given £10m to spend on building a squad. The playoffs were the bare minimum for him to be aiming at and he only scraped in on the last day of the season. 2. ANY team in ANY competition could have gone further with a slice of luck. It's a pointless thing to say. We wouldn't have got into the playoffs at all if it weren't for a few late, narrow wins against teams like Leeds and Norwich. Then we got already relegated Saarfend on the last day of the season. I'm not saying we were lucky to win those games, but we sure as heck weren't unlucky that season. 3. How does not being consistent not reflect badly on Burley? If you think it's because he didn't have enough cash to spend you are seriously deluded. It was up to him to pick the strongest team available and get them organised, fit and confident. 4. I'm sure if Pardew was given £10m to spend and had a proper pre-season to prepare, he'd easily match that. Lowe took us to the cup final? Either you're on a wind up or you're as mad as two badgers in a postbox. Lowe was not repsonsible for our on the field performances, that is down to the manager. Lowe gets credit for appointing Strachan yes, but that's about as far as it goes IMO. Strachan and the squad get the lions share of the credit for that cup run. That and an incredible stroke of luck being drawn at home in every round against lower league teams (and Spuds).
  18. Money means success if it is invested wisely. Clearly Burley didn't invest all that wisely as he brought very little success. Personally, as a chairman if I gave a manager £10m to spend, I'd want answers if it didn't work out rather than, "oh well, these things happen, money doesn't bring success blah blah" Chelsea may not have won the CL, but they've been in the semi final about 4 times, lost a final on penalties, won back to back league titles, a couple of FA Cups and a few League Cups. In what possible context could that be called not bringing success. Redknapp was crap also, but I don't remember £6m being spent. £2m for McQ and a couple of £100k for Camara's loan fee
  19. How many times does it have to be pointed out that he had £10m to spend on a squad already containing Baird, Bale, Claus, Surman, Jones, Oakley and Fuller. I'd expect just scraping into the playoffs as a bare minimum,
  20. Good appointment IMO. Always liked Fisi and I think he has outperformed most of his teammates over the years, bar Nando. Being Italian wont do him much harm with the fans either.
  21. Different factors at different times really. If we go back to 21st December 2003. Jason Dodd, Marian Pahars and James Beattie give Saints a 3-0 win over the Skate and we sit down to X-mas dinner in a Champions League spot. Since then, in chronological order: - Difficult fixtures, a loss of form from Beattie, a lack of investment in January and Strachan apparently losing heart in the job see Saints drop to 12th by the season's end. - Sturrock is appointed but doesn't have the full support of either the board or the fans. Despite this he starts well, winning 3 of his first 4 games convincingly against Liverpool, Wolves and Spurs. - A lack of investment again in the summer. Saints fail to replace the injured Pahars, Killer and Oakley. Cheap crap like Nilsson, Jackobsson and Yahia are brought in instead. - Sturrock is replaced by Wigley who is terrible. - Wigley is replaced by 'Arry who is only here to spite Mandaric. - After Saints are relegated, Lowe only gives 'Arry £90,000 to build a promotion squad. - When 'Arry leaves, the wrong manager is appointed yet again in George Burley. - Burley blows the family silver on 3 unsuccessful attempts to get promoted, then leaves. - Dodd and Gorman become the 5th wrong managerial set-up in a row. Rasiak and Skacel are loaned out to save cash and not replaced at all. - Lowe returns to power and immediately sacks Pearson, who was quite possibly the best thing to happen to Saints since relegation. - Lowe hires a couple of cloggy no-hopers to run the team and thrusts our youth team into first team action. This is labelled "total football", however as Shakespear once put it, 'sh*te by any other name still smells like sh*te'. - Lowe fires Portaloo and replaces him with Wotte. The deckchairs on the Titanic have been well and truly re-arranged. - Lowe, Wotte and Portaloo all leave. Unfortunately some of the better players from that season also leave and will take time to replace. - For the 5th year in a row, some fans remain convinced we will walk this League and expect a playoff spot as an absolute minimum, despite the points deduction. - After having the club turned inside out over the summer and massive changes at boardroom, managerial and playing level, instant success proves surprisingly difficult to obtain. After 5 games fans are already demanding to know why we aren't matching the results of Leeds and Charlton.

  23. He doesn't deserve special treatment, that's not what I'm asking for. He wanted away to boost his international prospects. That's ambition, it's football, get over it. A move never materialised and he is staying here. Again, that's football, ge used to it. Saga has nothing to be ashamed of and whilst he is still a Saints player, he gets my full support. This is not me being biased towards Saga. I don't rate Morgan and there have been strong links with him away from St Mary's. However I will still cheer when his name is read out the next time I go to a match. P.S. Wright turned down a contract because he had a better offer from Blackpool. I don't hold that against him and clearly neither do you. I do however wish you would apply your standards equally.
  24. A lot of what you said is based on hearsay and rumour. All we know as a fact is that Saga asked for a transfer after we were relegated last season to improve his international prospects. There is nothing wrong with that at all. ANY player in Saints squad (except Davis) would move on if they got the chance to play at a higher level. Surman, DMG, Euell, BWP, Dyer, Skacel et. al. left to pursue their careers elsewhere, good luck to them. There are two possible scenarios with Notts Country: 1. There was no bid at all and SSN got it wrong. No reflection on Saga at all. 2. There was a bid and Saga turned it down because it wasn't an improvement on L1 even if they were offering a pay rise. Again, no disgrace on Saga's part at all. As far as I'm concerned, he asked for a transfer, he didn't get it, end of story. Now he needs to get his head down and get on with the season and the Saga haters need to get off his back and give him the same support everyone else gets.
  25. Welcome aboard Smurf. Lets hope he does have pace and is used as a right winger. With him, Mills, Murty and Harding we might have some decent width for a change. Then we'll see what Lambert and Saga are really capable of.
