  1. Really? I think it was more a case of Swansea sinking like a stone and not adding any points in the final games, rather than results achieved by Hughes. Saturday, he confirmed stopping the rot was the objective and they met their target for the day. We now need a statement WIN next Saturday or else we look in trouble.
  2. The proverbial 'must win' game here. We have a very good record at home to the Mags, so hopefully we can squeeze one out. Need to win the midfield battle against Shelvey so maybe Romeu to neutralise him.
  3. Would be great to hear from Monk how it's going now, being as she must be coming up to 2 yo. And everyone else's stories too. I love reading this thread.
  4. And that's why I don't think they will boot him. When you're in a hole, stop digging.
  5. We can only DREAM that Wenger would manage us.
  6. Our business model is to buy young with potential, not old with experience. We couldn't afford his wages and there would be no resale profit. So, this is a non-starter .... unless we really are going back to getting in ageing rockers for their final season or two.
  7. Just watched Usain Bolt's two goals. The first one is a better finish than all (bar Ings) are capable of. We need pace in the side. Cheeky bid time? He's still not got a contract in Australia, only training and playing a few games.
  8. The Cross Country service is usually on time going up, getting back in the evening tends to have more delays (built up on the journey). Try to get the CC one rather than the change at Basingstoke, as the second train is the stopping service, as noted above, and takes an age to arrive in Reading.
  9. OK, I'll bite. I don't think they will sack/replace/relieve (use whatever expression you prefer) Hughes at some stage this season. For the reason you state. We have already removed Puel and Pellegrino in successive seasons, and received adverse media attention for doing so. We can't be seen to do it again. We will be a laughing stock. And now the directors will have to conclude the players are at fault, and tell them to improve their performance. So I'm going to predict they won't fire Hughes while the season is in progress. Maybe after the season ends, but not during. If they do fire him, I will be surprised.
  10. Well reasoned and cogently put, Mr Lighthouse. (thumbs up smiley)
  11. Denmark centre-back Andreas Christensen is unhappy at his lack of playing time under Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri. (Times - subscription required) Maybe he would like to link up with Vestegaard and Hoejberg to make up a Danish trinity!
  12. Wise words, TC. We have to get rid of Officer Dibble first.
  13. Players never, if ever, take a drop in salary. What's he on at Spurs? And he would know he's likely to be facing a relegation battle. I would love it if he came back, love it (to quote Keegan) but I just can't see a scenario where he would.
  14. I would agree with all you say. We have overlooked the Championship, in the belief that it is too much of a "step up" for players there. Never agreed that myself. They are used to playing in the English games and many are ready. They would take our wage structure with a smile on their face too. I don't like this approach of going for discarded continentals kicking their heels in their club sides, who have never played in this country and look out of sorts here. And yes, we need an ugly brute in central midfield who will strut about like King Kong, taking the ball (and ankles) off the opposition. Doubt Wanyama would come back, sadly, but surely there is someone imposing out there.
  15. Monsieur Jardin est dans le jardin. You couldn't make it up.
  16. Isn't this the point where they extend Hoedt's contract on a vastly increased salary?
  17. On this one, the Cabbage is right.
  18. And that's our only hope now. Cardiff, yes, Huddersfield, yes. Then choose one from Newcastle, Palace, Southampton - some want to add in Fulham. This is going to be a bumpy ride.
  19. That pretty much sums it up. As fans, our expectation (or hope, at least) is a top 10 place. The expectation of the Board, per our chairman, is to be a small club bobbing along the ocean but hopefully not sinking. Welcome to the Good Ship Southampton. A small fish is a big pond. Whereas down the A31, Bournemouth are pushing as high as they can ....
  20. No chance of attracting Darren Moore. He's a baggie through and through. We need an ex-Saint manager ..... oh wait, we have one.
  21. Looking at that list, we need to WIN these: EPL 27-10-2018 Newcastle United (H) - 3 Points - MUST WIN EPL 10-11-2018 Watford (H) - 3 Points - MUST WIN EPL 24-11-2018 Fulham (A) - 1 Points - MUST NOT LOSE EPL 08-12-2018 Cardiff (A) - 1 Points - MUST NOT LOSE EPL 22-12-2018 Huddersfield (A) - 1 Points - MUST NOT LOSE EPL 26-12-2018 West Ham (H) - 1 Points - Might nick a point You say 10 points. We need all 18 points to cover up getting nothing from the other games. It's desperate - and it's only October!
  22. I come on here expecting exciting updates. Oh well, I have had a good laugh.
  23. You said that on 23rd September. We ignored you then, and we are ignoring you now. Prowsey, he's one of our own. Unless the offer is over £25M, then different answer.
  24. Why has this been raised this morning? We have discussed this previously. He was made available for loan or purchase in the summer - there were no takers. As such, he stays on until there are any. We don't know what has happened with him, and it's a shame. No point kicking a man when he is down. Or do you go round kicking the homeless?
