Man City vs Saints - Match Thread

This going well innit … goal every 6 minutes so far (6,12 …) At this rate it's going to finish 15-0 (and that's not an opening tennis score!) -

Is FACT the new Mess! ? -
If he gets a clean sheet this weekend, I will be impressed. Score as well and I'll be singing his praises on Monday.

Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse could make a shock move to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in January. (Daily Express) Sorted!

Is it already a 5 team relegation battle?

Agree with that. In midfield and attack, Fulham are fine. But look at their back 4 and they are weak, no-one there a big name. Come January, I expect them to 'go big' and get Gary Cahill in. He won't have to relocate either. We are weak in defence, midfield and attack, so no hope for us. -

It's because MH would rather keep playing the duds in the mistaken belief that given time the duds will start scoring. The biggest fools are those that don't learn from experience. -

I agree with you, JBS. He was likely told this was to be his breakthrough season, so signed the new contract and readied himself for first team action. Only now it is hitting him he won't be seeing first team action, and the Club aren't letting go anywhere else, so his career is stalling. No wonder he couldn't muster the energy for the U23s. Play him or release him time. I say "play him". -

Between 4 and 6 and Citeh, and a big fat zero for us (if we're lucky). -

What we need to do in the short term, to fix the first team
the saint in winchester replied to benjii's topic in The Saints
Yep. agree. The OP calls this "short term fix" but then lists player movements that would take 5 years to bring about. In the short term - our forwards need coaching on choosing the best option in front of goal and the midfielders to slide the balls into them. We are creating the chances but "profligate" in front of goal. This has to be the first thing to change. -
Can I just say first that I suggested Usain Bolt some 10 days ago. He has pace and a decent hit on him. Anywayssss, I also would be adding Obafemi and Gallagher. If they can't get a game when we haven't scored for months, then when can they? I doubt we'll have a game this week now (rightly) so hopefully they get a chance soon, because sending out Dad's Army every Saturday is pointless (in all senses of that word).

Hughes is just picking the same failures again and again and hoping it will come good, as Pellegrino did. This is my frustration as well. Hughes doesn't think we are doing anything awry. He thinks we are just unlucky and that we should keep on doing what we have been doing all along and over time it will come right. What's that comment about give a team of monkeys enough time and enough keyboards and one day they will knock out the complete works of Shakespeare? -

According to rumours, Lopetgui, Jakanovic and Benitez may be available shortly. Any of those tickle anyone's fancy? I'd like Jakanovic. He looks a disciplinarian who would get control of the dressing room.

Try reading what people write rather than being abusive. Results were meh before he joined and were meh after he joined. No-one expected him to win every game, but we were hoping for an improvement. We managed to stay up simply because Swansea became woeful and were worse than meh.
-
Really? I think it was more a case of Swansea sinking like a stone and not adding any points in the final games, rather than results achieved by Hughes. Saturday, he confirmed stopping the rot was the objective and they met their target for the day. We now need a statement WIN next Saturday or else we look in trouble.
-
The proverbial 'must win' game here. We have a very good record at home to the Mags, so hopefully we can squeeze one out. Need to win the midfield battle against Shelvey so maybe Romeu to neutralise him.

Would be great to hear from Monk how it's going now, being as she must be coming up to 2 yo. And everyone else's stories too. I love reading this thread.
-
And that's why I don't think they will boot him. When you're in a hole, stop digging.

We can only DREAM that Wenger would manage us.
