You can usually tell from the level of ignorance on display.

I do find it interesting that those who see nothing wrong with these type of words are the ones without a disabled child/friend/etc, and the one's who do see something wrong with it have a disabled child/friend/etc. A generalisation of course, but telling none the less.

Yup, Mong was Mongoloid which was how Down's were referred to.

Definitions noun (British, slang, offensive) a stupid or foolish person Shiver me timbers, someone getting offended by an offensive word. What ever next?

I've got a life. I've also got a kid who is a mong/retard or whatever the current way people like to describe things is. I've also got a lot more worries on my plate than if someone rather flippantly uses the term mong/tard/retard etc. However, it is symptomatic of the problems disabled people have to face. A small part, but maybe if we didn't think it OK to go around calling people mongs, this sort of thing - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2960279/Caught-CCTV-Moment-autistic-teenager-beaten-stoned-yobs-unprovoked-attack-one-solo-trips-town.html - might not happen. I guess some take it differently. Certainly the Spastics Society felt they had to change their name (to Scope) due to spastic becoming such a common insult.

We have done exceptionally well and those whinging (OK - that might be a tad harsh) should just ask themselves whether at the beginning of the season, they would have been content at the tail end of February to be in 5th place, 2 points behind 3rd.

I find it amusing that Rodgers got the hump as have other ex Liverpool players. Do we have to welcome them back with open arms because Liverpool is special? But what I find sad is the arrogance surrounding that club. I remember the older Liverpool fan coming on here over the summer who gave a different image, as he saw how football had been changed for the worse. But Rodgers, ex-players, media all thinking that everyone should love Liverpool.

Southampton, the erosion of goodwill and tribal truths

The first to take the sneery attitude were the pundits. Maybe that has more to do with their opinions pre-season being so wide of the mark. Maybe it is because they are happy with the cabal at the top. All they go on about is Liverpool and Arsenal finishing in top 4, which while I think it will probably be that way, we aren't even considered. Supporters of the "cabal" are seemingly sort of split. Many can see that it is great for the game if a smaller team gets in the mix (obviously so long as it's not at their expense), while many just want the cabal to be the way it always is. I guess it might be a generational thing, with the older supporters realising how much football has changed, even though there were certain clubs always up at the top, and changed for the worse. There is very much two divisions within the PL, 6 vs the rest as Everton seem to have dropped off (maybe only temporarily). Of those 6, how many have a chance of winning it. Really we might as well have a SPL type set up and let the big teams play each other 4 times a season. Anyway, I think the feelings towards us come down to whether you can see the bigger picture or not. Supporters of smaller clubs probably can, but the envy is misplaced. We are not joining the cabal and it is likely to be a blip. It happens from time to time, but I guess the over achieving is the interesting part of it. -
The bit I found hardest to accept was the signing of the Liverpool shirt pre-WC and when asked whether he was going to be at Anfield next season replying "I hope so". http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/young-fan-gets-england-midfielder-7212288#.U44pLlEjB9M.facebook That coming from the captain of Southampton was hugely disrespectful to his employers and something he really shouldn't have done. Apart from that, he's just like any other football player who chase as much money as possible (which seems to be the biggest motivation in most people's lives these days).

We're very far from the top in England. Closer than most other clubs, but still very far from the top. It may not be an issue for you, but it is for me.

Here we go again. The ridiculous position that football finds itself in, including ourselves in the pecking order. I hope Sky go bust and can't pay the £5bn. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/article-2960244/Manchester-City-keen-summer-Southampton-loanee-Toby-Alderweireld.html

Villa is an interesting situation. They are (or should be) a huge club. Big stadium, big potential fan base, titles, cups etc. But they've been up for sale for an age now. Maybe the asking price is too high, but as many commentators say, it isn't a hugely attractive proposition given FFP rules. So while you have to be smarter than FIFA/FA I am not sure it's that simple otherwise surely Villa would have gone down that route.
-
Not sure why you would want to buy a football club - FFP means you can't put a lot in, but then I guess with the TV money floating around, you sure can take some out.

Agree about money lenders and gambling companies. We do seem to have cosied up to Garmin. But having said that about gambling companies, William Hill is our "betting partner"

What, Liverpool cheering when Man Utd's opponents score? Who would have thought that!!!? Personally, never think it worthwhile motivation the opposition, so giving him a whole lot of **** might be counter-productive.

http://www.irasia.com/listco/hk/birminghamint/index.htm That's their home page. Investment holding and Cayman Islands = God knows what. I suspect that the Cayman's will be a dead end for the FA, and that they will have little choice but to deduct 10 points. -
It's about time they serve chips and mayo at SMS.

Any chance of having #10 and #12 as a sticky that get's updated as and when things change?
-
So you don't rate LvG then? I tend to agree with you. It's a bit like Avram Grant - a 67% win ration at Chelsea and losing finalists in UCL. Sometimes it doesn't matter how sh1t you are, if you have the players who are good enough, they know what to do without any input.

No mate, I don't buy into we should be appreciative tosh. Some people seem to think it is a one way thing. Well it's not and he could possibly have shown more appreciation towards the club who got him to where he is today.
