Hopefully that's all the Spuds luck used up before Wed

Agree. However, I cannot find any evidence from the owner's stance that he (and ofcourse 20% Kat) have reneged on their stance that the club would be self sustaining (i.e nothing in but nothing out either money wise). So the board are maybe choosing to keep their powder dry for now, or indeed doing a very poor job of outgoing vs incoming - maybe a risky strategy? Certainly don't see massive amounts of reddies being siphoned off from the club.

To be clear, I am not disputing that the £5M is a total package saving for Saints - however it is made up - loan fee, wages, non-payment of contract termination fees etc. etc. Net for Saints is we save £5M (KWP loan is a separate issue for who we have to pay regardless of Cedric going or not). My comment was directed at your suggestion (as below) that the net £5M saving was spin by the club and it's favoured press - not sure I agree with that part, but as you say we are all entitled to what we choose to believe. No slight intended - apologies if you saw it that way. We aren’t getting £5m for Cedric. There’s a loan fee of

Once a Van D.ick Head, always a Van D.ick Head. Not that he's wrong, it's just the manner of his departure and rubbing salt in the wounds. You got your move p.r.i.c.k, just be graceful about it

Not seen many myself. Your argument could equally be used in justification for the £5M amount - in fact I have seen more articles quote £5M. Reality is no one outside of the negotiating teams really know, and for me if Ralph is happy with it, then so am I. And no I don't have any proof that Ralph is happy with this but we will have to see if it happens and what he says about it and whether we believe him.

Not so sure. Why is Maehle a great player all of a sudden? He is apparently available for €7M - not much in today's terms and no one has rushed to buy him? KWP would be £15M for permanent signing. Seems a very wise move to get him on loan and if he is any good then buy him in the summer - much less risk no? As for Augustin, let's see how he does at Leeds - was touted for £38M https://tbrfootball.com/everton-shouldnt-match-38m-asking-price-for-augustin-given-his-lack-of-games/ not so long ago. Seems Leeds will pay cira £3M for a loan to end of season and £18M option to buy - some drop! Is he really better than what we have? I don't disagree that our owner probably has an infestation of moths in his wallet, but we need to be a lot more smarter about our future buys.

MOTD and Sky Sports to be closed then?? Completely ridiculous - some people need to get a life
-
If it's a loan with an option rather than obligation to buy then I think it's a good move. We can check him out ala Danso and then decide. He can play both sides and is young with at least some PL experience. Whilst not great he has been ok every time I have seen him play (only a handful). Was he not tipped for England not long ago?
-
Ok fair enough. Maybe my response was a bit harsh, but I don't think Danso is for us long term - agree he hasn't been given a chance in his normal position though.
-
How is that lazy? It seems to be trend on here to criticise other posters views - and that is what it is a view - this is a forum where you post your view, and it's not the gospel truth. Who died and made you the king of anything? As far as I am concerned (and seemingly Ralph and all at the club) Danso has not been up to the mark - it happens - get over it. Or are you saying we should be giving Carillo, Wes et al more chances to prove themselves. This is exactly the malaise that has led us to our current predicament. Mistakes happen, but learn from them and move on quickly. Rather than criticize, why don't you offer an honest opinion on what to do with Danso and improve our current squad with the current restrictions - guessing you have no clue.

Other than he's crap

Totaly! We are not skint - far from it. Last published accounts showed we made a £35M profit, and since then we have loaned a number of players and generally lowered the wage to income ratio. No harm in being prudent and self sustained, but do not kid yourself and think we are broke. I am fine with no investment from Gao, and everything staying within the club (nothing put in but nothing taken out either) - just find someone who can invest what we have wisely and not waste it.
-
If it's this (and I don't know it is) then I can believe - my daughter had it and literally wiped her out for nearly 2 months. That's not allowing for gaining match fitness for a professional footballer.
-
I just don't get the whole Danso situation. Why did we loan him, at £3.5M if some of the media quotes are to be believed, only to try him out of position when we have struggled at CB? If he needs settling in and match fitness, then why not play him in the under 23's (or whatever they are known as now). We play him at LB or RB once in a while where he has struggled but continue to do so when short of fit players, but not at CB - why? What is the point? Is he on a play at CB per game bonus over and above the said £3.5M? He is raw and needs a few games to prove himself, but seems he will not get that.
-
True, but you would think we would we would give him every opportunity to show his best assets. Anyway, as we were prepared to possibly take up the permanent option, we can hopefully use that towards a better prospect in the summer (£15M if I remember correctly?)
-
Not to play RB. Play him a few times at CB and if he's still poor than don't take up the option to buy. Cannot understand why we loaned a CB and don't play him there?
-
Gunn should have saved that (at least on my crap stream)
-
Don't speak Spanish - never mind correctly! Can just about order beers though

 Good lad - very funny!

Sell Vest to Leicester for 15M, and PEH to Everton for 35M. 50M should be enough for Ralph to get 3 to 4 emerging jems from Austria/Germany - markets he should know very well. Job done! After all we are investing everything we receive back in to the club right? Difference in wages (although there should not be much as these are two of our top earners), agents fees, new kit embossing, change of names on lockers, new entry passes, watches etc. etc. can be covered by selling Forster for 8 to 10M.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7918561/Leicester-making-15million-Southampton-defender-Jannik-Vestergaard.html Now this would be the perfect revenge for the 9-0 loss :-) Can't possibly imagine it's true but how sweet would that be?
-
It's not black and white, all or nothing etc. There is a balance, and we are by the majority of consensus and in my view a shade on the wrong side of it. Getting one or two players - ideally bargain gems, to bolster our wafer thin squad is not quite the drama queen crisis situation you are trying to portray. £15 to 20M spent wisely now would ensure we don't lose 100' s of £M by getting relegated. In all likelihood we would soon recoup the spend either now or in the summer by selling Ori (£8M), Reed (£4), Fraser (£8M) etc. Not sure if this is the new trend, but why do people have to be so polarized, nasty and biased in their views - this is a forum after all and people are entitled to post their thoughts - no?
-
Perfect opportunity to try Danso in his natural position. If not then cancel the loan if we can - no point paying for someone you are barely using and then in the wrong position.
-
Good job we have a strong squad and will instantly bounce back from this without the need for any new recruits
