After finishing 2nd and getting promoted in 1977/78, we then finished 14th and 8th in our first two seasons back in the top flight. If we sign the European footballer of the year, maybe we can finish 6th next year?

Was the worst day in my saints supporting life. Much better viewing from 30 years distance. It was also the most packed crowd I can remember. Anyone else at the Clock End that day? I lost all the people I was with within a few minutes due to the sway - didn't see them again till the match had ended. No choice of direction. And I spent the whole of the game with my feet off the ground being held up by the crowd (I was a kid at the time). Brian Moore, comments at the very end are noteworthy. This game led to only venues with fenced-in fans being considered "safe" to host a semi final.

Great performance. Of those that played at some stage, no fewer than 8 were with us in league 1 (not necessarily in the first team). Amazing!

I think we are in a significantly better position financially, in comparison with most of the division, than we were in 2003. The top 4 or 5 are still ahead of us but in comparison with most of the league we are looking good. In 2003, we were punching above our weight.

When I looked last the top 9 team in in possession, by some margin, were the top 9 in the league. The only exceptions were Swansea (and Newcastle, who are poor possession wise). Very strong correlation with success. Swansea are the exception.

Surely an option to buy for juve is a good thing for them rather than us. If he dies really well and is worth more than £15m they'll buy him for less than the market price. If he doesn't do too well and isn't worth that, they won't pay that.

What if, say, one of the named starting line up had to go for a crap right at the start and was about 5 mins or so? Unlikely, I know.

This is always trotted out, like the "fact" that Man U changed their shirts when we beat them 6-3. We were already promoted to the championship when he left - although if I remember some were predicting we would only finish 17th.
