Is it true that our defender tried to trap the ball by sitting on it with no pressure on - one of his party-pieces - and it all went horribly wrong? I was to young (just) to be there but I recall a story along these lines.

Admitted I got that wrong whilst supporting Saints!

1 - I should get a season ticket in case I miss out on a big cup final (1988, still waiting). 2 - We got an amazingly good price for Shearer. 3 - We will walk the championship (after relegation, not promotion, to it). 4 - Relegation to L1/administration, in the midst of the financial melt down, would be a disaster. 5 - Markus's sad death would mean we wouldn't reach the champions league after all (his joy at Wembley had convinced me this was inevitable). -
fwiw I think we are in the title race and our squad is not at "thin" as some are suggesting, given most of the teams we might be competing with will also have Champions League games too. As long as the key player steer clear of injury, who knows?? Then again, who remembers this: 12 November 1988 - 3rd http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/division-one-old/1988-1989/table/1988-11-12 28 March 1989 - 18th http://www.statto.com/football/stats/england/division-one-old/1988-1989/table/1989-03-29

Bit of a tangent but why include two goals against Chelsea in the "circumstances surrounding" schmeichel's ire whilst watching Matt's lob float over his head. Firstly, letting in 2 is hardly in the same league as 5 or 6. Secondly, he would have had to see into the future to know the next week's result. We're not talking about Hans Seagars.

Your favourite Saints players that weren't popular?
Stud mark of doom replied to Bad Wolf's topic in The Saints
Paul Wotton - the bloke behind us hated him so we always made a bit show of cheering his name, giving him a standing ovation when he was subbed etc. -
Barely meets their inflated expectations, especially with their poor league positions and the fact they consider themselves above one of those competitions (as their new manager has said). I know loads of Chelsea fans and none of them is even close to being as pleased as I am at our performance over the last few years.

Last Saints Player to have a Testimonial?
Stud mark of doom replied to MINIBARCELONASAINT's topic in The Saints
Didn't lawrie have one after about 6 years? -
Interesting question. I had a quick look at a couple of relevant things and they both suggest 12m now is "more". 1 - my season ticket in 2002/03 (closest I could find) cost £451 and this year cost £656 - that's only 3% pa! Bargain. 2 - TV rights for 2001-04 were £1.2bn and 2010-13 were £1.7bn. 4% pa. even if you allow for the new deal of £3bn then 12m is still a bit "more".

Wanyama ..... did Lennon "con" NC ?
Stud mark of doom replied to SaintRichmond's topic in The Saints
Why is everyone ignoring the OP's excellent point? The facts are the Norwich did NOT bid £10m and therefore we have clearly been shafted. Lennon has not commented on this important norfolk-based aspect of the negotiations. Cortese out. What has he ever done for us? -
The ref deserves a mention too, for the style with which he brandishes the red card. Fully in-keeping with quality of the foul. Top notch all round.

Think we were top for about three months when KK was here. That will be going some to replicate. Have we been top since - other than very early season c88/89?
-
Yes - one arrived Friday and the other one on Saturday.
