  1. My lasting memory of that match is Ruben Agboola getting his boot stuck in the net after sliding in and failing to prevent yet another goal. He couldn't get himself free for some time.
  2. Yes, the previous weekend to this table.
  3. Agreed - but oddly the preceding record signing, Barry Horne, was signed from Pompey. No doubt that Keegan had the most impact in terms of the signing itself (rather than what he actually did for the club. Current double european footballer of the year and English. I was at school then. I remember the headmaster went round all the classrooms to break the news. We didn't learn much that day! All over the front pages of all the newspapers the next day. What would be the closest comparison now - perhaps signing Bale?
  4. Pretty sure they didn't play together - osgood signed the year we went down -73/74 - and left during our promotion season - 77/78 I think. Charlie George signed a couple of years later when we we back in the top flight and played with Keenan etc.
  5. Surely he wasn't a record signing?
  6. Quite a selection to choose from - from (hazy) memory Osvaldo Gaston Delap um, David Hurst? Alan Mclocklan Barry Horne? David Armstrong Kevin Keegan Peter Osgood Ron Davies Seems a distinct downward trend (with time) to me? Best - Big Ron; worst - The Italian (nut) job. Also, pretty clear that most of these were not as good as our best free signing.
  7. I think typically the debt is owed to an entity in a low/nil tax regime. I'm also not an expert but I thought it was pretty normal practice.
  8. Would you rather we spent our income on tax or new players (Osvaldo excluded, obvs)
  9. To be fair they often did well when the year ended in a one. It has now been firmly established that success required the year to start with a one as well.
  10. That was absolutely great http://www.onenigeladkins.com
  11. Just popped into my head that he made some odd comments when he signed, which in retrospect seem prescient. From memory it was along the lines of not being able to believe how much money we threw at him to get him to sign.
  12. Perhaps they have to be world class and even then they may not get the chance to maintain it?
  13. Just after we'd secured of highest ever league position? Fantastic.
  14. Saints want their Danish back cured? Ronnie Eckelund
  15. Has it been established whether Gaston was the all time most drawn-out saints web signing of all time? I'm not sure if it definitely surpassed Rudi Skachel, or if there have been others I've forgotten.
  16. Spain and Hungary? Puskas in the making.
  17. Why was the related spoof post 'flabbergasted' locked? That was the funniest thing I have read on here in ages. Should have had a warning on it not to read somewhere where it was not appropriate to laugh out loud - such as in the big at work..
  18. It's good that we most like bompey and in return they most dislike us. I like them even more now.
  19. Rupert Lowe?
  20. If liverpool have trodden on us, we must be an upturned plug - or at least a bit of lego.
  21. It's camera for me. Best away was "dellhurst park".
  22. Who knows, perhaps this alternative approach/prospect was part of the negotiation.
  23. Glender obvs
  24. I think 88/89 was the first season all games were televised and that's when they started - with a 4 0 win against West Ham, 1 0 win at qpr, 2 1 against Luton maybe, and then Glendale being crocked at Highbury (from memory).
  25. I was there. Can't remember anything much about the game but I expect I left early for a quick swim in the sea, like usual.
