Only a couple of weeks ago we were doing these calculation to see if we were likely to make the play offs. Now second is very much in play - the other sides need to suddenly find some form to stop us. Ipswich have won 3 in 8. Millwall have won 2 in 6. We are on our best run in 108 years.

I hate to admit it, but I thought we might lose when we were 3 down at half time against Leicester.

No doubting they were/are both fantastic runs. I’d actually checked the number of draws in each myself last week as this one “felt” better. I was surprised that the number of draws last time wasn’t higher. i think one key difference is that this time we have shot right up the league, gaining points on everyone. Last time we had another three teams doing similarly, that we couldn’t quite catch, even though (if memory serves) we were the only one going unbeaten. They were all getting similar points. Definitely agree both great runs, of course.

Are you counting the Leicester cup match as a draw, coz we only won in extra time? I make it 16 wins and only 3 draws. it does feel much different to last time when almost one in three were draws. In this run the small number of draws were towards the start of the run and it has just been win after win relentlessly recently.

Can’t be much difference walking from Woolston versus walking from central station?

Baz is fine for player of the season

A draw with no key injuries will be fine in terms of remaining on course for the play offs. A win and we are starting to look extremely well placed.

That was pretty poor by our chaps. First Manning gives away the most needless penalty you will ever see, to change the game with Ireland coasting at 2-0 up. Then Azaz first miss in shoot out. At least they’ll be back early.

Whilst we are at it - the red and white home kit has surely been done to death. Perhaps a nice Royal Navy blue shirt with white shorts next season? 😃

The truly massive upgrade we have seen from Baz to Peretz has made me think - can anyone think of an example where we have gone from so poor to so good in one hop. I genuinely can’t.

Whisper it quietly, but AI is pretty rubbish at many things. There is no way we have an 8pc chance of automatic promotion. Too many other teams playing similarly well and also with quite a few points in hand. I also think it might be undercooking the chance of us not making the play offs - we are quite reliant on 2 or 3 key players. One injury to the wrong person could have a big impact. I agree the most likely outcome is that we do make the play offs, most likely 5th place I’d guess, which is a brilliant position to be in, given where we were a couple of months ago.

Pretty significant that of the 9 games left we have 6 at home whereas Wrexham only have 3.

I think that if you are only in the prem for one season then the parachute payments are shortened (2 years rather than 3 - although they are quite small by year 3). Obviously, they also cease if you go back up. The real financial winners from yo-yo clubs are the other prem sides. They get the “returned” parachute payments.

Does it help to remember that 3rd place was only an automatic promotion for just over 10 years. Was just the top two before that. Play-off coming up for their 40th birthday. No way they are being dropped. Fantastic end to the season!
