  1. He'll be ok. I'd still prefer James though. I think it's a mistake for Capello to wait until only a couple of hours before the game to name the team. There's no time to get in the right frame of mind.
  2. A couple of points there.... We confiscated all the royal property and in exchange we give them a 'modest' subsistence. We are quids in. Having a repulic with a president instead would actually cost a lot more. Just the cost of holding regular elections would be a lot more. How do you like the sound of 'President Kinnock', or maybe 'President Prescott'?
  3. Oh dear God, no. My biggest dread is that everyone with a two-year old's brain will be blowing them at Football League grounds next season.
  4. An excellent and succint summary. Why don't the studio experts put it that way? I've slept on it and have come up with a couple of thoughts: Green's mistake was due to poor technique and is quite common amongst British keepers. They put their hands down together to let the ball run up into their chest but if it deviates in any way it will spill off to one side of them. If the ball does kick-up towards their face then the instinctive reaction is to turn the head away. In most of these mistakes the keeper is already thinking about what he is going to do next and has literaaly 'taken his eye off the ball'. Only scoring one goal is rarely going to be enough with our unsettled defence. Heskey, SWP even Lennon got into good scoring situations and fluffed it. That's not good enough in the World Cup Finals. I'm desperately trying to make 'waste of space' out of the initials SWP.
  5. I think we'll be lucky to get to the next round.
  6. Would that be Frank 'where were you in Germany' Lampard?
  7. Ooh! There are so many to choose from! Where do I start?
  8. It serves you right for driving in the BMW lane.
  9. So, what if the World Cup were to be held in some previously unused part of the world? What local musical instruments might we expect to hear there? In Australia I suppose it would be bloody didgeridoos everywhere.
  10. But I might want to donate to the Cause!
  11. In my second year at university a previous occupant had left on the wall a map of the USSR which was of course was centred on the Russian empire. It was interesting to see the world from their perspective, surrounded on most sides by potential threats. It's no wonder that they needed buffer states on all sides.
  12. I was at a game at Bournemouth once and the youngster behind me had an aerosol foghorn. I was very close to sticking it up his own aerosol and emptying the whole tin. Why do they do it? Those old wooden rattles were bad enough. Why can't we all just sit quietly and enjoy the game with the odd 'well done sir' or smattering of applause?
  13. Is that a type of bird, or a technique?
  14. I expect the revenues from the playoff final will have helped. The usual agreement is for the losing club to get all the receipts.
  15. I've always suspected that too.
  16. He used to watch me and the other members of IBM's second team play at Hursley on Sunday mornings when he was walking his dog. I'd have offered him a game but we had a full squad.
  17. There were two of them! :smt107
  18. That is, of course, normally accounted for in the Reynold's number.
  19. Thnks for reminding me. Now I shan't be able to sleep at night thinking about those girls in their pleated 'slave' outfits. (You're talking about the one at Southsea, right?)
  20. You forgot to mention suface roughness which has a considerable effect on the behaviour of the boundary layer
  21. As I understand it, this 'perk' is only being withdrawn from those who went on strike, not from all members of staff. A spiteful, but understandable, move by the management.
  22. You wouldn't if you could see it.
  23. If it weren't for Jupiter gobbling up most of the space debris then we wouldn't be here. Perhaps the Romans were right to worship it as a god.
