  1. Well done! Inspiration for all of us
  2. Are you talking to yourself again? I do it all the time; it's the only way I get intelligent responses I generally respond to posts rather than randomly generating them. In the interests of balance, that sort of thing.
  3. That will be the Autumn Statement of course. The timing won't be an emergency but the contents may well be.
  4. That's waiting until all the immigrants have been sent back and the NHS has its extra £350m a week and we get back this control that we are supposed to have lost and we can buy bendy bananas again. (sarcasm smiley thingy) Can we please give up on all these silly remarks. We haven't left the EU yet by a long way and anybody who wants to make political capital out of petty point-scoring would do well to wait until we have a clearer view of the direction in whicjh we are heading. All that has happened so far is that there has been a vote and a wholesale change of government personnel and there have been reactions in the financial markets that mean nothing to the ordinary public. The £ is looking very sick it's looking unlikely that it will ever recover. For anything else we shall just have to wait until 6 months down the road when we shall have more accurate figures relating to economic activity. If we can avoid this slump turning into a recession then we shall be doing well.
  5. Did you not detect the hint of sarcasm in there
  6. Just think how high it would have been without the vote! ..and how is this now valued in Dollars?
  7. Yeah, we were advised never to question the name that we were given even if it was Elvis Presley. Just write it down and notify the FA and let them sort it out. You certainly couldn't ask for 'Christian name' because they might not have been Christians. I was playing as captain in a game on the shoreside at Netley and the referee had advised us before the game that he wouldn't take any swearing. It wasn't that he was worried about dissent, he just didn't like bad words. With the sorts of lads that played on a Sunday morning it didn't take long before there were a few cases of 'oh f*cking hell' and the same number of red cards and when it got to 8 vs 9 I called the game off. The ref looked a bit shocked. After he had left we would have carried on with the game but too many had buggered off by that stage. There was an inquiry by the league of course. That was a bit surreal since both secretaries and the ref involved were all sitting down together having a friendly chat before being summoned before the hearing. They were a bit nonplussed because they thought it must have been a violent affair but when they found out what had happened they juts hit us with the statutory fines and we all went our friendly ways. The problem is that this sort of language was commonplace during the working week and the vocal outbursts on the field were automatic and didn't constitute dissent or abuse. Years later when I was referring I took the view that if it couldn't be heard off the pitch and was not aimed at any particular individual I would let it go.
  8. I found out recently that a friend of my wife voted leave because she never expected that side to win. I know somebody else who just fancied a change but didn't realise what it actually meant. I truly believe that a lot of people didn't think it mattered much either way. Not everybody considers the issues as deeply as we do.
  9. There's a long long way to go yet in these negotiations. We are still in the phony war period and these are just the opening skirmishes. Let's wait until the invasion of France before we can see how it's all going to end.
  10. You are forgetting all the opposition MPs who could support the government on such an important issue. I really think you overestimate the support for the anti-EU position in the country as a whole. I'm sure that the senior politicians will be analysing and examining and canvassing every combination of representation before coming to any conclusions. As I have said before, if the present government were to go for a total break with Europe there would be widespread outrage and they would be out of office for the foreseeable future. There is a very delicate balancing act needed and we have only begun to see the first hesitant steps along the highwire. I think you need to get out more from your UKIP enclave and find out what the other tens of millions of voters really want.
  11. Possibly for exports but we're also concerned about imports including energy costs and these will be correspondingly higher and we import far more than we export. Of course tariffs are also important but a cost of a few percent can be more than offset by movements in exchange rates. What we need is stability if we are to develop a long-term trading relationship with partners across the world. A reduction in price will obviously help but the whole situation is very complex with many interdependencies.
  12. Just knowing the home and away dates would be an advantage for me. Do I presume that all these would be determined by the draw?
  13. An interesting point of view but I'm not sure exactly what the author is suggesting either way. If nothing else it is a reminder that there are two sides to the forthcoming discussions and the dice are not all loaded in our favour.
  14. We're down further against the Dollar than we are against the Euro. In general a deprecation of your currency is not a good sign. If it were than places like Argentina and Zimbabwe would be paragons of economic affluence. A one-off readjustment need not be disastrous but as part of a trend it is a matter of concern. This whole business about 'xth largest economy' is not really significant. What's more important is our buying power and whether we can sell enough to pay for our essential imports. It is woth remembering that just before the world crash of 2008 we were trading at well over $1.80 to the £ and the drop to around $1.6 did little to boost our exports, possible because of the slump in global demand. Incidentally I got €1.236/£ eleven weeks ago.
  15. Thanks, it has all got a bit silly. Back on topic, I contend that when we are considering a new player and are considering his goal scoring abilities I would value his goals from general play as more significant than any scored from the spot. We can always train up a full back to take penalties. David Peach and Jason Dodd come to mind.
  16. Now corrected. Thanks for pointing it out to me
  17. You must have missed the 'should' in there and there was also a large slice of hyperbole. I know that Matty (48/49 98%) was exceptional but his record was not as good as Ricky's (for us 31/31 100%). If they can be so consistent then why can't others? No need for the puerile patronising thank you, I had a couple of maths A levels before I was old enough to legally go to work.
  18. Are they both purely full backs or can they play further forward?
  19. Yes that was impressively slick.
  20. Not all of the 150,000 Conservative Party members are Eurosceptics and over 100 times that many voted to remain. The government of Britain has to govern on behalf of every citizen and not just those who voted for them in the same manner as each MP has to represent all of their electorate.
  21. No longer fifth largest now that the pound is worth half of bugger all.
  22. I'm waving the white flag What's happening with this Valerie chappy?
  23. I too voted Conservative. I don't know where you get your misconceptions about the grass roots being Eurosceptic but I know that I, and many others, will never vote Conservative again if we submit to such rabid xenophobia.
  24. Who's arguing? Sunday innit. No news today.
  25. You don't 'win' a penalty. Unless you're cheating of course.
