I think I read £3m somewhere but you wouldn't know the true figures until the accountants have worked on them. Let's call it break-even but don't forget that if we've sold assets above their book values then there may be a Corporation Tax liability.

Is it right for the media to use images of refugee tragedy?

Very few left in the areas I knew. I don't wish to turn this into any argument about race because it isn't. It's about the wholesale replacement of one culture by another. -
As Liberace said: "I cried all the way to the bank".

Officially our population has risen from 52m to 64.5m in my lifetime. The current figure is accepted to be well below the true figure which some estimates place at 80m. This is just one: http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2099461 That increase has not come from the indigenous birth rate. Your argument about the ethnicity of the arrivals is only relevant if you also provide figures showing its makeup. In any case, it doesn't matter where they come from, it's the quantity that has the impact. -

You are treating London as though it were an island, insulated from the rest of the country. London is the big attraction but the extra pressure from new arrivals pushes those already living there out into the surrounding counties. Anyone living in London will not notice any significant change in population density, merely a change in its constituents. Those living outside suffer the problems that these extra people bring. -
Yes indeed. 'Retirement' is a funny name for a woman, don't you think? Allegedly

I rather suspect that our friend Fry is being ironic in his offering. This may not always come across as such in an Internet posting.

4th if you include the Franco-Prussian war but I personally don't subscribe to this latest view.. -
I watched it too as soon as I got home. Why do we put ourselves through this?

I am saying that there is no point in trying to debte with somebody whose views are so obviously indoctrinated that they try to make political capital out of an issue that has little to do with politics. -

There are over 8 million people in the country who were not born here. -

If you really believe that our social and physical infrastructure is overloaded because of government policies then there's no hope for any sensible debate. -

I'm fairly certain that Turkey compares favourably to Syria at the moment. -

Indeed it does. I wonder who wrote it for him? -
Graziano breaks the deadlock by bundling it into the net. 3 goals in 4 starts now.

0-0 at half time. Very scrappy.

No thank you. The traffic was awful this morning at M27 J5 and the Windhover roundabout. I really don't see the point of the park & rides, they just shift the problem up the road to somewhere else also totally unsuitable.

I don't consider an extra 10 to 20 million immigrants (from all sources) into the UK to be tiny or insignificant. That is what we have seen over the last decade or two. This country is becoming uninhabitable very quickly. -

Arbitrary? That is the population of Syria. The rightful place for Syrians is in Syria, in their own homes and in their own society. They are being displaced by tens of thousands of ISIS/rebel fighters. If all those fleeing were to stay behind and maybe join the Syrian army and fight for their way of life then perhaps their families could stay in their own homes. There certainly isn't plenty of room in England. I don't know where you get that idea from. How many are you prepared to put up in your house, in your own bed? -

The population of Syria alone is over 23 million. Where would they all go? -

The family were trying to get from Turkey to Greece: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-34133210 Yet one more tragic and innocent victim of war and oppression and sadly he won't be the last. The root cause is in their homeland and that's where the problem needs to be tackled. Are the media right to show the photograph? I would say that it is neither proper nor necessary. This image will join the hundreds of thousands that have been taken over the last hundred years or so. When they lose the power to shock and affect us it will be a sad day but if that happens then they won't be shown. -

Hmm. 'It didn't affect me in any way' ? And when they refer to a 'nail-biting second leg' against Midtjylland then you know it's a load of horlicks.
