  1. Highly recommended. We went there a few years ago for our 40th anniversary but had to leave early to avoid a hurricane. We'll be back, we have unfinished business there. Lovely place, lovely people, only 6 hours away. Edit: bloody auto-correct
  2. Don't get your worried, you've made good choice. My wife always says that she felt like crying when we got there (it was all a bit too much) but she could have cried even more when we left. As an aside, we flew there from Auckland. There were a country or of New Zealand girls on the flight and one of them was celebrating her birthday in the departure lounge, champagne and all the trimmings. We flew over the Date Line and landed in Honolulu the day before so she then had a whole 24 hours of further celebrations to look forward to. Apparently they did this every year.
  3. Did they say which Sunday?
  4. Clue: count the capitals in the links.
  5. Did you click on the links? You were supposed to read them
  6. Back cover? What 'back cover' (not on my browser, anyway). I never judge a book by its cover, what does this edition have to say on the subject of capitalisation? http://www.plainenglish.co.uk http://www.english.ox.ac.uk
  7. That's a title, and it's the 2004 edition. Come on, keep up.
  8. I am not in reach of my copy of Fowler's 'Modern English Usage' (1967 edition) at the moment. Much of the discussion on various forms of writing style predate the Internet so finding a link is not as easy as some youngsters might think.
  9. Unless we're talking about Liverpool's impending decline, with or without a 'clyne'.
  10. This may come as a bit of a shock but... the internet is not the real world
  11. I am led to believe that if we match their offer then the net result to AM would be ... Hmm... Whichever happens AM would owe us some money. I think it would result in costing us slightly less but AM have the same net cost.
  12. But some are taught the difference between grammar and choices of style. Capitalisation is considered by many to be a question of style. Some will never learn and are doomed to follow slavish principles.
  13. They had to make a payment in order to cancel that deal so now we're all square, plus a modest sum of money
  14. Of that I'm certain.
  15. And of course, this:
  16. I cannot understand why anybody should ever write 'of' instead of 'have' for goodness's sake. 'Of' has never been and never will be an auxiliary verb. Nobody would ever say 'I of been to the football today' or 'Of you seen my new car?'. Someone once asked my daughter what the rule was for when you say 'of' and when it should be 'have'. She found it very hard to accept that it is never 'of'. :face palm: I blame the schools. And the teachers. And the parents. And their friends...
  17. Depending on the season in Honolulu the whale watching trips can be good. To see the humpbacks breaching right in front of you is quite a sight. You can even see them from the beach. The ABC stores in Waikiki are everywhere and sell everything at good value and quality. They are like an upmarket version of your local Tescos. Big choice of flowery shirts. https://www.abcstores.com It's a long while since I've been to SF but the Alcatraz boat trip is very interesting.
  18. Hedgehogs, more likely.
  19. Similar in some respects to the young lady's effort for England against Japan the other evening.
  20. Last season, of course. In terms of league position I thought our run was quite exciting, very little difference to Liverpool's. Edit: over the last 9 years they've won bugger all really, just the one League Cup. More than we have, I'll grant you, but nothing much to go on about. And on, and on, and on...
  21. So they won nothing either.
  22. Unless we sign him first, of course.
  23. Congratulations on the spelling, and your choice of destination! We had a six night stopover in the Outrigger Hotel on Waikiki Beach three years ago. It's a fantastic place and great fun. You'll want to go to Pearl Harbor and visit the Arizona memorial. Visiting times are restricted but you can either go on an organised tour or book your own slot in advance through the Parks Service in which case you'll have enough time to visit both the USS Missouri and the Museum of Pacific Aviation. http://www.recreation.gov/showPage.do;jsessionid=8F8CDAE895F158A4AB009EC222AD7D41.web08-ny?name=landing&landing=/htm/pearlharbor/home.jsp&contractCode=NRSO&parkId=72369
