It's similar to 'the gambler's fallacy', if a roulette wheel comes up red 32 times in a row then the next must be black. In our case the outcomes are not random. Logic would indicate that if we've won 10 out of 11, or whatever, then we are much more likely to win the next game than lose it. So that'll be a loss then

I think Redslo has touched on the reasons. If the owners are filthy rich they don't need to breed talent because they can buy it, and if the owners are poor they can't afford to take a long term view.
