  1. Now that I would pay to watch. Have you thought of suggesting it to the Olympic Committee? On second thoughts, I suppose that 'ealth 'n Safety would worry that something might get singed.
  2. Going from, say three, employees to four is a big increase in overheads and fraught with difficulties. And what do you do when the economic climate turns sour? Try looking at it from the employer's point of view. Some staff can be nothing but hassle.
  3. As I alwas say, you can't generalise.
  4. No it isn't. It really isn't. (Is this the 10 minute argument or the 30 minute one?)
  5. Thereby hangs the crux of the matter. As a small business owner who might be considering taking on an extra member of staff, in the current economic climate, as the Mafia boss says in that film (Goodfellas?) 'Why take a risk?.
  6. The eleven months is because of the notice period. The danger is that someone could play goody-goody for 11 months and then start swinging the lead once the initial period is up. It happens all the time, talk to any small employer.
  7. Whatever it is, it certainly isn't history. I don't think Posterity will regard some bloke running past your office as significant. Not unless he torched the whole city or something.
  8. It is there in the Laws in several places. http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/affederation/generic/81/42/36/lawsofthegame_2011_12_en.pdf Law 5: Powers & Duties of the referee Law 5: Page 68 especially and others.
  9. Temporary cover?
  10. No you don't. Who do you blame for the break? If you hadn't been playing footy it might not have happened.
  11. In practice it's eleven months. And a year is not long enough.
  12. Yikes, that's slow, What happened to Faster, Higher, Stronger?
  13. Miserable? Not me. There's something wromg with our community if it needs an artifical commercial gimmick to get it moving.
  14. Nothing historic about it. The torch run was introduced by the Nazis in 1936. Let's face it, if it weren't for the tag 'Olympic' nobody would watch any of it. It is over-hyped to the point of hysteria. Football, on the other hand, has an ethereal beauty about it. It is the purest form of art in existence. The point of the Universe is to be the cradle of Life, and the point of Life is Life itself.
  15. Yup, not the goalkeeper's ball.
  16. I don't understand. Why, please tell me why, would anybody go to watch some berk running along with a barbecue lighter?
  17. Hmm, I might pay to watch that.
  18. You're very welcome. It's back in my dim distant past but it's all coming back to me now.
  19. Good point. Until the whistle goes the ball is still in play so you can't blow for a new foul and then take it back to the previous one. Did the whistle blow when the player was allegedly tripped in the box? I've refereed under 12 matches at Staplewood where all the regional academies were involved. The kids were wonderful, no nastiness or unpleasant attitudes. The parents however were absolutely desperate for their little Jonnies to do well.
  20. Yes, not easy, but I would say that a penalty was a greater advantage than a free kick.
  21. I would have awarded a penalty, that being a greater advantage. I would only have brought play back if no advantage had accrued, and you really only have a couple of seconds leeway. Once advantage has been signalled I would have though it too late to go back to the original offence. http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/lawsofthegame/index.html see page 68
  22. I can't remember the title but wasn't it something about a night flight and they thought the sand dunes were waves and that they were parcahuting over the sea. It could be this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Be_Good_(aircraft)
  23. That statement alone shows the lunacy of their pay structure.
  24. That's a surprise. Two more than Corp Ho. I'm undecided whether this is the biggest timewaster ever or the greatest entertainment in the history of mankind. Threads such as this should be preserved and put in a time capsule. Where shall we bury it?
  25. I've always liked him.
