  1. They were originally Folland, then Aerostructures and are now part of GE Aviation. They made a lot of subcontract parts for Harriers and Hawks and there is a former Red-Arrow gnat outside on a pedestal at the corner of Hamble Lane. The original seaplane slipway is still there at the bottom of Ensign Way. I was in my Mirror dinghy in Portsmouth Harbour the day that the Invincible came back from the Falklands. Once she was safely tied up alongside her Harriers took off, circled and then headed west - to Yeovilton, I believe. What a day that was! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Folland_Aircraft
  2. Is that in total or for each leg of the journey?
  3. There's also one in Newport (Wales, not Isle of Wight) http://maps.direct.gov.uk/LDGRedirect/MapAction.do?ref=passportofficesregional#mapanchor
  4. The male or the female ones?
  5. As a bit of entertainment, if you think that was bad: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnoEOeMmt4E
  6. It's a photo of London. Technically, it's a marvel but the choice of subject is also important.
  7. I was born there. I suppose it has some importance, it's just that Londoners think that it's the centre of the universe and anything outside is not worth a mention.
  8. The Brighton player had just kicked the ball away so Kelvin stupidly shoved him in the back. The referee was calling that player back for a rollicking/booking when his number was held up for substitution so I guess that the referee decided to let him off.
  9. The comment that I read said that she would probably have got nothing in court. I guess that he felt he could afford £2m out of over £50m just to avoid the bother. My son got divorced recently and insisted on no spousal maintenance. I know of one woman who went to the judge complaining that she couldn't make ends meet and when the judge looked at all the details he said he could not award her any more than one penny a year extra. But it's a gamble.
  10. It wasn't too bad after all. No wind so not as cold as Saturday, and a geat view of the Moon and all the planes on their landing approaches.
  11. When we went there a few years ago we parked in the residential streets up the hill about half a mile to the south. What I normally do for a strange ground is get there early, then drive away in the direction you would take to get home and park in the first available space on the left-hand side.
  12. I felt that Kelvin took at least as long as their keeper when taking his goal kicks.
  13. If you could only sing new chants at every game then it would soon get very quiet.
  14. He didn't have to pay her. He chose to settle out of court.
  15. That just about sums it all up.
  16. There's a bit more here on the subject: http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/detail?r.s=sc&r.l4=1074414642&r.l1=1073858787&r.lc=en&r.l3=1084822795&r.l2=1084822788&r.i=1074414877&type=RESOURCES&itemId=1081597934&r.t=RESOURCES There are 8 days of Bank Holidays in England and Wales, 9 in Scotland and 10 in Northern Ireland. I am self-employed so I don't get paid for any of them.
  17. It has to be 'fair' so if some members of staff get an extra day off work and others don't then that cannot be 'fair'.
  18. I would have though that in the interests of fairness your wife should have an extra 0.8 of a day to be taken at her discretion.
  19. It's all to do with treating 'part-time' workers the same as those who work full-time. Whatever system is used, it must be 'fair'. Bank Holidays must be added to the basic entitlement before applying the ratio that is used for the part-timers. So, Bridge-too-Far, since your daughter is full-time I would have though that she should get an extra full day like everybody else, unles her contract specifically excludes this, although that may also be 'unfair'???
  20. Certainly interesting, and thanks for the link. I meant that London was not important.
  21. There are other complications. I have a member of staff who works 4 days a week, Monday to Thursday, so Friday is not a normal day of work. The standard Bank Holidays are included in the total number of days of holiday entitlement that full-time members of staff receive, and so for reasons of fairness his person gets 80% of this overall total. That presumably means that they will be entitled to an extra 80% of a day off work. Our holiday year runs up to April 30th so that means they will get this 80% of a day during the current holiday year. I shall be losing 3 person-days of work. Why can't they get married on a Saturday like ordinary people?
  22. Technically impressive, but it is still only London. Nothing important.

You should have painted a go-faster stripe on the side.
  24. After a bit of thought I have decided not to vote for a man of the match because I feel that they all played their part to some extent or other and I don't want to single out any individuals.
  25. Funny, that's what I thought of the main text.
