I think we need to set ourselves small challenges all season. First 5 games to get into positive points, 12 or so to get out of the bottom 4, 20ish to get to mid-table. If we manage to achieve that, then we can look at a further 10 games for top 10 and push in the final period to get into the play-offs and even automatic if that is still an option. The most important thing is to get out of the bottom 4 in the least amount of games because that gives us the platform from which to push on.

FFS give the guy a chance!!! He's been in his job for a week and has NO backroom staff to help with the playing side whilst he tries to sort out who is staying/leaving and who he wants to sign. He knows what he needs and he knows who he wants but it's not as simple as picking them out of a school yard line-up, there are clubs, agents and the players themselves to negotiate with and one of the biggest reasons he is looking at the Bosman list is that it takes one of those parties out of the equation.

Looks awfully thin. 1-33 with 5 of them goalkeepers, 3 vacant (4 if SJ doesn't re-sign) and the outfield players include Pulis and Lancashire.

There are all sorts of reasons players become 'Bosmans'. Some not good enough for the level of their present team, others because they don't fit into a managers plans or maybe fallen out with a manager or there is a glut of players in their particular position, at that club. Some too expensive (like Euell and Sol Campbell, down the road), others want to move on because they're stale, or want to further their career elsewhere, or have only been offered short-term contracts. All of which, adds up to the fact that there are decent players out there, not currently under contract, who could do a decent job for Saints in League 1 to Championship level. I certainly think Dan Harding comes into that bracket.
