  1. Rival fans might have said the same thing about us last season when we signed Forren.
  2. Excellent post Polaroid Saint. There are essentially two debates to be had regarding climate change... What is causing it, and what can we do to adapt to it? The first one has been done to death on here already, and as we have seen there are still many who bluntly refuse to accept the overwhelming body of evidence which suggests it is anthropogenic. The second one, however, is perhaps more important. The undeniable fact is that the planet is warming so, regardless of the causes, what do we do as a society to adapt to the changing climate? We saw in the news this week that the UK's environment secretary Owen Paterson has slashed the climate change budget in half, amid concerns that he is a climate skeptic. Whatever his motivations this is worrying, because we need to focus on the fact that the climate IS changing and implement appropriate adaptation policies, rather than continue to argue about what is causing it.
  3. No. Both the US and China are investing massively in solar technology, while India is leading the way with thorium-based nuclear reactors.
  4. I hate to break this to you but Ted Bates is already on there, 2nd from the left.
  5. Shaw for England and Schneiderlin for France I reckon. How Morgan hasn't had a call up yet is beyond me.
  6. Jason Dodd and Alexei Cherednik?
  7. I heard his name being sung to the tune of 'Brown Girl in the Ring' tonight, but I agree it's a travesty we haven't come up with a unique one for him before now.
  8. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-25934660 This is very bad news indeed. It essentially places massive restrictions on the ability of charities and other non-political organisations to campaign in the run up to elections, effectively silencing them. The government have forced this through despite bitter opposition to it from the public, and I fear it is another nail in the coffin of democracy in this country. First we had the bill which will allow police to disperse peaceful political protests. Then the police want to have the use of water cannons, which ACPO admit would not have made the slightest shred of difference in the 2011 riots, on the basis that the current economic conditions might lead to more rioting. Now this bill. What next? How far do we let it go before we stand up and say 'no'? Bit by bit we are slowly losing our liberty, but as long as X Factor is on TV and we can all have our cheap iPhones to pacify us, nobody seems to give a damn. Dark days.
  9. I know I'm going to get slaughtered for asking this, but who is he?
  10. Yeah he did. Wenger wasn't happy but a flying two-footed tackle right in front of the ref is always going to earn a red card and he can have no real complaints. Aside from that, I thought the ref was shocking tonight. Missed so much and gave so many 50-50s to Arsenal. The handball in the box looked deliberate to me (in as much as he had so much time to move his arm out of the way but didn't) and there was a blatant foul on Guly towards the end that he just waved away. Really poor again.
  11. errrr... We drew 2-2 HTH.
  12. I'm sat here angry that once again we didn't win a game in which we were so dominant, and then I have to remind myself they are the league leaders. Frustrating because on the balance of play Arsenal didn't really deserve a draw, although you can't really argue about the quality of their second goal. But missed chances and a couple of defensive lapses have, just as in the Sunderland game, cost us two points. Some good performances out there tonight. Shaw was excellent, as was Lallana. Morgan bossed the middle of the park and Cork was everywhere. Steven Davis may not be the most gifted player but he has proved time and time again he will never let us down and put in a poor shift. Have to say I was impressed with Gallagher. Playing against the best (statistically) team in the PL and he didn't look out of place at all. Gave us another attacking dimension that we often lack due to Lambert's immobility. Shame he couldn't convert that decent chance but I won't hold it against him as the spin on the ball from the deflection off Lallana (?) made it very difficult to hit cleanly.
  13. But true. If that had gone in there are plenty of people on here who would be critcal of him for not getting to it.
  14. Straight at him really. We would have been calling for his head if he didn't save it.
  15. Seems that way. If i was a neutral watching this I would have to laugh at how biased he is, but as it is I find it distinctly unfunny.
  16. That's probably the best chance Gallagher will get tonight. He'll be disappointed with himself for not putting that away.
  17. We are making Arsenal look nothing like a top of the table side at the moment. Totally bossing them.
  18. Hopefully Big Vic will be fit for this one so he can snap that c**t Wes Brown in two!
  19. I'm sure you'll get that chance before the end of the season. As good as Schneiderlin is, his gameplay means he is never far away from a suspension.
  20. This for me please. The last time I went to Hillsborough we somehow managed to lose 5-0 to a very average Wednesday side, and I never hear the end of it from my Owls supporting mates so it would be nice to lay that ghost to rest. And although we have played there at least twice since I have been living up here, I have never yet been to see Saints at Bramall Lane.
  21. From the BBC report... "Substitute Jack Redshaw rescued a point for Morecambe as they were held at home by League Two strugglers Portsmouth." Just let that sink in for a bit... League Two Strugglers Portsmouth. Maybe we could adopt this in the form of an acronym to describe them: LTSP

  23. One or two people may have put forward the opinion of 'the debate is over' but actually the IPCC's latest report concludes with a 95% probability that human activity is responsible for the observed warming over the last century. I don't know about you but to my mind, a 95% probability is a pretty sound basis for implementing policy. As this thread and many other debates like it have proved, there will never be a 100% consensus on the issue, therefore we cannot afford to continually delay and wait for that which will never occur before taking action. I believe it was Minty who has mentioned the precautionary principle a few times already on this thread, and you don't even need to know a single thing about climate science to appreciate just how much common sense it makes in this matter.
  24. Don't see why not. I know what would happen if I was to lose my temper and leave one of my workmates with serious facial injuries. I would be out the door so fast my feet wouldn't even touch the ground. I imagine 99% of people would expect similar, but then most of us exist outside the bubble of professional football.
  25. I believe he played there a few times for Celtic, but would rather have him back in CM when he is fit again. I believe Cork can play CB as well so with Wanyama back in midfield that will give us another option
