At work and my wife called me to say what was happening. Tried to get on BBC website to see for myself but the website kept crashing. In the end, was getting updates from The Ugly Inside from a Saints fan in New York watching things out of his window. Then went over the Westgate Hotel in Winch to watch it on TV once work realised noone was interested in working. Pub was full of American tourists watching it on TV.

Maybe Toshack & Keegan will both join us and manage us by telepathy

I remember that. In later series'. the theme tune was changed to include "you're never too young to give Southampton a hand". Possibly sung by Musical Youth.

Gurkha Chef is fantastic. Porterhouse does look good but again, not been there yet. There is also a new Thai place oppo MacDonalds which has had good reviews Favourite of mine though is El Sabio, the tapas restaurant at the bottom of town where The Mash Tun used to be

Got hitched just over ten years ago. Cost us less than £500 thanks to mates who were DJs, caterers, deal with my old mans local, free hall hire from my work etc etc. We were dead lucky. But it was a truly fantastic day. But my bro & sis both had big weddings and they were fantastic days as well. It is all to do with how relaxed or formal you want it & how much you are prepared to say 'don't care what people want, this is what we want'

Not worth much, but in the last league game at The Dell, in the pre match kick about the Arsenal players were kicking in and the World Cup winner Vieira went to chip a ball to the Arsenal fans in the lower East. Sadly, as he had no one to kick or elbow he miscued his effort and I caught the ball in my seat next to the Arsenal fans in the Lower East. No one was watching so I kept the ball. On the way out, a friendly copper who used to patrol that area asked me what I was doing with the ball and I said taking it home. He said that is fine, but if anyone from the club asks, I am taking it to reception. It igot a bit scuffed from a game of football in Carlton Crescent after the match, but it is still in the cupboard under the stairs now. Have also got an Italy shirt signed by Paolo Maldini. As it was designed for an Italian athlete, it is still as good as new.

Hampshire workmen paint white lines around dead badger
Chorlton replied to chrisobee's topic in The Lounge
I really doubt it is true as badgers don't exist. They are a made up thing like gnomes & eskimos -
Am gutted, Can't believe it can be true. RIP fella, hope you look down on all those Saints games and gigs from up there.

First match I saw (on TV) was the 81 FA Cup Final replay between Spurs & Citeh when Villa scored that goal. I remember really wanting Spurs to win but there was never any doubt I would be a Saints fan. Then started following Saints the next season and we were a bloody good side, and everyone in my year at Primary School who was into football supprted Saints. The years above & below were a mixture with United, Spurs, Lpool etc, but our year was just Saints. Of the people I still know from those years, it is only the Saints fans that ever go to games. The 82 World Cup then cemented my love of football as a whole, and though I follow Saints around the country, I still enjoy watching football of any sort on TV.

Yeh, I visited their ground whilst on hols the other year. Just think, they were 1 min away from qualifying to play in the Champs League at the weekend. Wasn't there talk of Freddie Shepherd buying into them a year or two back?

Yeh, the Gaudi 'Park Guell' is pretty spectacular and well worth a visit. Have been to Barcelona a few times and though you will go to Las Ramblas, it is full of tat shops similar to some of the crappy ones on Oxford St in London. At the bottom of the street though, it is worth going up the Columbus statue for the views over the city. Would also advise getting on one of the open top tourist bus trips which take you around the city to all the sites. May not be what you would normally do, but they are very handy. Getting a T10 ticket for the Metro also helps as that gives you 10 journeys on the underground and can be used within your group by all of you. Plus if there are any kids, they turn a blind eye (and even encourage) you carrying your kids through the barriers should you have any. As mentioned above, the cable car (which is near that statue), also gives great views and will take you over to the crumbling Olympic Stadium, which was home to Espanyol till recently. There's loads to see and you will pick it all up from Rough Guide books or whatever, but if you are there for a weekend, it is worth getting a train out to Montserrat which is about an hour north of the city and getting the cable car through the mountains up to the monastery built into the cliff there But don't bother with the Erotic Museum on the Ramblas. It is pretty shoddy.

Agree with that. Have watched Barca a lot this season, and they just aren't the same when Ibra is playing. A great striker, but not a great team player. Inter deserved to go througjh for their masterclass in defending, but it was painful to watch. Barca missed Iniesta but got sucked into José's mind games. The constant stop/start ruined the game as a pectacle, as did the feigning injuries and diving (and despite what the commentators said, it isn't just a Latin thing, Owen & Gerrard are amongst many British players who do it)

My favourite World Cup without doubt, but probably because I was 16, had just left school, loved the 'Madchester' scene and also discovered various other leaisure activities which helped the mood of that fantastic summer But journalists & FIFA Look back on it as a terrible World Cup, full of negative football and one of the reasons why the back pass law was introduced two years later. But **** it, I loved it.

Work with some Cherries fans and rthey don't hate us at all, just try to wind me up through friendly banter, but they have explained that a few people really dislike us there and one of the reasons is that we make out that we saved them

he is possibly my all time Saints hero (by the days of Le Tiss, I was probably too old (or thought I was too cool) to have a hero. Fantastic player and someone who looked like he enjoyed scoring goals more than anyone I have seen since. Could ask him whether he thinks Saints let him go too easily or too soon. Think I have also seen somewhere that he was asked to go on tour with England to South America in 84 (when John Barnes scored that goal at The Maracana) but he couldn't go as he was getting married.

A little bit Mary, as it will be novel but I don't really give a flying phuck about The Cherries. Are you looking forward to it?

I would imagine Barca's pre season friendlies are already booked up for the next couple of years, with a few dates free for if they win the Champs League and get invited to Dubai or whatever. Their friendlies are normally part of things like the Wembley Cup or Emirates trophy or whatever those touraments that look really good but are normally really dull are called. They do have a friendly at Camp Nou each year gor the Joan Gamper trophy (their version of the Ted Bates trophy), but I am not sure we would be invited. What annoyed me a bit when we opened SMS though, is that the night before we played Espanyol, Derby hosted Barca in a friendly. Would have been nice to play them instead of the second Barcelona team

Was at the station earlier and there were no signs up that I saw saying no alcohol. There were signs in the days leading up to the skate cup match so you should be OK. Though I remember having cans taken off me by Officer Dibble when I turned up at Winchester Station for the train to Wembley in 92!

Not sure he does think that he speaks for you. I think after running a fanzine/website or whatever for 20+ years, that journalists seek him out as he has put his head above the parapet for such a long time. May not agree with all he says, but I think he was just trying to get more tickets for Saints fans. Not sure if this normally leads to offers to suck c-cks, but I imagine there are some people on the request for spare Wembley tickets thread who may be that desperate.

Not there today as have been out of action for a few weeks with illness. My wife took the boy to the match and they are both going on about this ref. But worst ref in living memory? FF, the centenary match against Everton at The Dell? please say he wasn't worse than the ref that day (Mr Cotton or something?)
-
That is what I was unclear about as had also read this on some of their sites. It is deemed within the clubs control, albeit illegal, covered up and not known about elsewhere within the club? I would assume that both the club AND individuals would be punished then? It seems that that is what their fans were expecting any possible challenge to be based on.
-
If there has been money laundering going on, is that what the skates were basing their appeal against the 9 point deduction on? I think if it can be proved that the club were not to blame (i.e. there were illegal activities going on), then the deduction may not apply. Forgetting any further points they could lose a la Luton, or them being wound up next week. I think they would stay up without the 9 point deduction.
