No favours to Saints by Man City and Arsenal in Europe this week
positivepete replied to TopGun's topic in The Saints
great point! -
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/personalfinance/fameandfortune/11210678/Bankrupt-David-James-sells-off-possessions-why-do-so-many-footballers-go-bust.html The article says that in fact he has gone bankrupt over unpaid tax issues. Not a laughing matter but a certain irony by association.

better send them the link to video of the opening ceremony for the training complex! -
Phew! Emotional or what. Thanks Markus, and everyone who has worked to carry out his legacy.

They never really wanted to play for Saints after being transferred to us.
positivepete replied to 9-3's topic in The Saints
Disagree with that. Redknapp took the place of Anders Svensson who was our best player up to that point that season. -
Just back to my alternative Shropshire home. Agree with that, though not sure I would be worried about tiring, Stoke gave us a physical battering in the second half, goodness knows how Pelle has survived two games in a few days against them. Pelle was immense tonight in the same way as Tadic was at Arsenal in the last round. We score when we want to, what a winning mentality we have in the squad, what is that, nine wins in ten games now? This is the new Saints, I am loving it.

Men can multi-task too! Trying to win every game is far more fun. Late decision, on my way in an a couple of hours

Alternative table - fixture compensated race for Europe
positivepete replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
I had replaced Cardiff with Burnley, Fulham with Leicester, Norwich with QPR. If I recall we were about 10 points ahead after as many games last year, and we rarely looked like getting less than 50 points. -
Alternative table - fixture compensated race for Europe

The easier way to measure our progress to 66 points is to use what is called in industry the moving annual total, in football terms this is the corresponding fixtures measurement. At the moment we are on course for 56 points the same as last year as our results overall in the corresponding fixtures this season against the corresponding fixtures last season are identical. We drew with Stoke at home last season, if we beat them Saturday we will be plus 2 or on course for 58 points. -
We have the same number of points as last season from the corresponding fixtures.

With all this talk about looking at girls on line being the same as touching them, I am now worried about what reading 99,000 plus posts on the subject of PFC makes me, and is that the same as actually touching PFC players and supporters? Mack, can you find it in your heart to forgive us voyeurs?

Saints Have 45% Chance of Top Five Finish
positivepete replied to Guided Missile's topic in The Saints
We are still two points behind last seasons results, it is early days and to be fair we could well keep on improving as it seems the drive is there to do better not just to survive. I suppose the key will be how we cope with injuries and suspensions. We are picking up more yellow cards this season, partly because we are showing a willingness to pick up a booking for the team if we are under threat. Part of the winning mentality we seem to be developing. Let us hope the fink tank points prediction is correct. -

Superb talk. Long term thinking and planning will keep us ahead of our peers. We are unlikely to ever be the biggest club in the world, but with a sound philosophy like this we will always eat at the top table. It is in sharp contrast to the short term way many football clubs operate, and perhaps one of the most revealing bits and proof that what we are doing is working, was that our staff are also in demand. If you have not yet watched the video all the way through, do so, it is worth it is worth the time.

Starting as he did with Accrington showed a good deal of humility and an attitude to give something back to the game, people like that are surely welcome to learn at the club.

I am really enjoying this season, as I did last season, but just to keep everyones feet on the ground, using the corresponding fixtures method we are still two points behind where we were last season. Using the same method after six games last season we were six points better off than we were in 2012/13, such are the vagaries of the fixture computer. I know the bar is higher this year, and I am looking forward to a nice win at WHL to put us one point ahead! Let us hope we can take advantage of the Thursday / Sunday curse.

Bertrand and Pelle got the goals their performances deserved, both had really good games. The spine of the team with Fonte, Morgan and Pelle is looking good, all three are leaders on the pitch. Keoman has instilled a winning mentality in this side that we have rarely shown in the top flight.
-
Get him to join a team where they pass it out from the back rather than just lump it up the field
-
The first turning point was clearly Koeman's appointment. He has some top friends, perhaps we can offer Van Basten a little break, he can come over and do some work with our strikers!
-
Yep, that why he was booked, the controversy is whether the assistant official he was standing alongside told him to go back across the pitch or failed to tell him to go around the pitch. But that aside, a really assured performance in front of a very big crowd.

Just back to Ascot. Superb game, end to end, quick tempo. All the players deserve great credit. Well played Targett, but MoM for me had to be Tadic. He was outstanding, not just in his vision and skills but in his work rate. He really covered a lot of ground tonight. Hats off to Koeman. He has instilled a winning mentality in the team, and he clearly reads the game well, his adjustments to the shape and rotation through the game shows a man who understands the game at the highest level. We not only come back from behind but we close out games. I am sure there will be some downs to go with the ups this season, but what a season it is already shaping up to be. We play open, confident, positive football. Great to watch. Get down there if you haven't seen them this season.
