I am driving up and back from Ascot if that helps.

Agree with that. It is also worth noting that for the exact same 20 fixtures we have played this season, last seasons results meant we also got 36 points. However, if we can carry on the combination of creating plenty of chances and not conceding chances, which is certainly an improvement on last season, it is pretty conceivable that we will get more than 20 points from our remaining 18 fixtures and better last seasons finish.

Watched MOTD last night, you would be sick if you were a Leicester fan. Too many really poor decisions yesterday, you can accept the odd decision that is debatable, but yesterday highlighted how few world class referees we have these days in this country.

He has certainly improved this season. Sissoko at Newcastle is also up there with the best.

Not quite what I meant! Age for a striker is ok, hungry, not sure about that, guaranteed to improve, in my opinion he will not improve sufficiently to make the grade with us. But I was actually referring to his playing style, his work rate, first touch, and ability to hold up the ball fall well short of the standards we require these days.

Unless we have changed the profiles of the players we are looking at Rhodes will not be coming to St. Mary's other than on an away team coach.

Starting with the Arsenal game we picked up 21 points from those corresponding 19 fixtures last year, including draws with Arsenal and Man U. I think we can improve on that overall.

Can we get a link from the updated news page Mods?

Our very own The Kat.

Was that the game that a young Matt Oakley came on for Robbie Slater who got a really bad injury, ran the show and Neil Moss saved a penalty from Ravenelli? We had lost a few at that point I seem to recall, a similar result Saturday would do wonders.

What was Brucey doing to Shearer just before the first goal?

No Eastleigh in the third round draw, lost 2-1 to Southport. Aldershot still in the draw after their 0-0 at home to Rochdale -
http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/nov/26/paul-mitchell-scout-tottenham-southampton Contains the quote: Koeman said: “It is a compliment for us that Tottenham are not just trying to buy football players, they are also trying to buy our scouts. That is a compliment for us because that means maybe we have a better structure than they have.”

Chatting with a group of Villa supporters on the way back to the car on Monday night, their consensus was that we played with an eye on the the City game. They were very well aware of our upcoming fixtures. That was not how I saw it, but it is interesting to see how other supporters see things.

Just back. Not often you see the away side with four up top and the home side with one. We were a bit flat tonight, the passing in the final third suffered because we had no runners from midfield for most of the game. High up in the stands you could see how flat our front four were. Sad to see a club like Villa play so negatively at home. Still, we did not play well but we still managed to dominate the game and came away with a point after giving a daft goal away. Could have been worse.

I am going back to Chandler's Ford after the game, and have space

http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/article/20141116-nathaniel-clyne-england-debut-southampton-2086083.aspx That is the England player list, so do we have a list of other players from other countries who made their international debuts whilst playing for Saints?n Gareth Bale for Wales, Ian Baird for Northern Ireland, etc?

Tesco have recently mothballed stores after completing them before they open, so building a car park is a long long way from opening a store.
-
FF, is there a definitive list of players who won their first international caps whilst playing for Southampton? I seem to recal there used to be an honours board at the Dell which included all international caps, but our recent record of first caps is mightily impressive.

Spot on Minty. As you say the culture comes from the top, and in that regard I would argue that we have a better culture than Spurs, Everton, Liverpool and probably these days Manchester United. Manchester City and Chelsea are changing their cultures to a more long term sustainable one. I sense Arsenal need to rediscover their culture which seems to have morphed into the cult of one man, albeit a better one man than Levy is. I would have thought that these days we will attract high quality back room staff because of the culture and the facilities we have.

And by that formula we are +/- 0, i.e. on course for 90 points. On the corresponding fixtures method we are +2, i.e. on course for 58 points.
