Think he's better as an impact player.

Interesting to see which youngsters are and are not included. No place for Hesketh who won the award for best scholar, no Rowe or jake Sinclair, but flannigan, turnbull, Stephens and McCarthy all go.

Really can't understand this mentality. How many points did we lose last year from not having proper cover in goal? Getting another keeper is a top priority for me.

Not from what I've heard.

Southampton Football Club to announce permanent tribute to Markus Liebherr

Before we sold anyone, I'd have said we had a great team, but lacked squad depth so needed another striker to replace osvaldo, a back up left back if targett isn't good enough yet, a new centre back, and a keeper to compete with boruc. And to be greedy, another attacking midfielder / winger for the right hand side (ideally with some pace). Lamberts natural replacement for me is Gallagher, and we have replaced lallana with tadic, shaw can be covered by Clyne / chambers but I would like a direct replacement for him. If lovren goes we need another centre back. Ironically, the one we have the best chance of keeping (Morgan) is the one who wouldn't need a direct replacement given reed, jwp, Davis, wanyama and cork. So IMHO we need: left back, striker and centre back if lovren goes. And I'd like: a right winger, centre back and keeper. I wouldn't say no to another striker given j rods injury, but hope we can cope without him. My biggest concern is that no transfer policy is fool proof, so some won't work out, and also that's a lot of new players. Just look at Sunderland, spurs and Norwich for examples of how a whole new team takes a while to gel. Also, not seen a thread on who our new captain should be? Obviously depends on who's left but it's something we need to sort as well.

But Glasgow wasn't his first album, was it? And there was 110 persaint in between them too.

I'd venture to suggest that while he hasn't lived up to his potential or price tag, there have been more glimpses of brilliance than shown by either lallana or Morgan in their first two seasons or by the same age. Your writing him off, alps, is based on his price tag, wages and the fact he's South American, not on what he actually has done and is capable of. A corner doesn't change anything, but then nothing needs to have changed. He's an excellent talent with bags of potential who will be an excellent footballer. It may not be with us, Forlan has been top class but never showed for United, but by keeping on calling him gash just demonstrates how pointless your views are. You're wrong, he's not gash, end of.

We're not sh1t, just rank average. Uruguay are a nothing team, and should be down to ten, but the defence is weak, Henderson and gerrard are offering no protection, yet no support either, and the front 4 who played fairly well on Saturday are all off the pace. Sterling to me is no better than andros Townsend, just paced, tricky and until recently on a bit of form. We need goals so lambert has to come on, as does lallana IMHO. We also need to replace Henderson; just hope ox is fit as I don't see wilshere or lampard making enough of a difference.

We have no wingers in the squad. At all. So why are we insisting on a 4-2-3-1? I'd play a diamond, that way you can play three fairly central and get the best out of Rooney, wellbeck, Sturridge, sterling, Barkley or ads, whoever you pick. My team would be Hart Clyne (ok, too late now so Johnson) jagielka Cahill shaw Henderson gerrard ox (or milliner if not fit - can't believe I'm saying that but he'd do a better job than wilshere IMHO) Sterling Rooney Sturridge

I would assume the figure of 20 million for our own pockets came from lallanas camp, not out of any negotiations with Liverpool. Lallana clearly wants to go and I assume we told him ok, but only if we get an acceptable offer and he will have wanted to know what that is. Telling the player is naive, which does make me wonder about our board. That said, if the offer isn't at the right level (as appears to be the case) we should point blank refuse, especially as his value is likely to rise in the World Cup. We don't need the money, and to lose our manager, talisman, and captain within one week for anything less than significantly over the odds (when we don't need to ) is poor business in anyone's book. I am not a bedwetter, have loved the last 5 years and am delighted with where we are now at as a club, and understand our position in footballs pecking order, but even I would have serious doubts about where we are going were we to sell lallana for this offer.

I'd be happy with yakin. I've advocated rosler previously and stick by that, and tuchel would be interesting, but someone else mentioned sampaoli, the chile coach, a couple of weeks back. Plays a very similar style to poch and bielsa so would fit our current tactics, and is apparently learning english in a bid to get a job over here. Don't know enough about him but on the face of it looks a good fit. Yakins Swiss nationality might sway things towards him. What I really don't want, however, is a managers whose failed elsewhere such as Clarke, laudrup, Mackay, hughton, etc. moyes, though, I would take. Can't say I particularly like his style of football, but we'd be safe in this league for a while under him. But I'd still rather one of the above to bring in a touch of excitement.

Yep, many congratulations. As an aside, can anyone (preferably a qualified coach) explain the current fashion for not having a man on each post for corners? Both goals in normal time would have been cleared. It does my head in.

Caulker to replace jos or maya.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Uwe rossler ... If we lose mopo. But I'm still very hopeful we won't.

What is the most amount of Saints players in an England WC squad in the past?
Chewy replied to TopGun's topic in The Saints
I said mills and Keegan, not mills and shilts. Guess mills was still at Ipswich then? I was only 5 so will let myself off I remember crying when we lost to Liverpool in that semi. I know for some people the 84 semi was harder to take, but with the age I was losing mark wright to a broken leg as well as losing that semi ... My first of many disappointments. Which makes days like today all the more sweeter. So proud of this squad. -

Mick mills in 82 as well as Keegan. Wright didn't go to Mexico after he broke his leg in a clash with Shilton in the fa cup semi v Liverpool at white hart lane. He would undoubtedly have gone otherwise. I think the 2 in 82 must have been our previous best but will happily be corrected. -
Why would j rod go there? We've just beaten them 3-0 in players in the England squad so his chances are clearly better staying with us.

Luke needs to weigh up his options carefully. He will end up at a top club playing champions league; united are a top club, but in order to be certainties for champions league they need a complete new back 4 and a central midfielder and will they spend all that's required? He may as well stay with us next season and see how united improve and join in January or next summer? There may have been conversations since January, but the landscape in terms of United has changed rather dramatically since then. Chelsea, on the other hand, just need a striker a replacement for terry and a left back but don't appear to want to spend a huge amount and are obviously prioritising the striker. Chelsea's position may be to go another season with terry and cole and again that could allow us another season with Luke. But, if he plays and performs at the World Cup who's to say that someone like Madrid won't go for him? I think we all need to realise that he will go at some point, and the when is down to Luke and the relevant clubs having the desire (or need) to spend what will be a huge amount for a teenager. I think the press links to the young player at nice indicate we are looking at options for whenever he does go. It will be sad whenever it does happen, but he will be a champions league player for most of his career, and we are highly unlikely to be a champions league club in that same period.
-
Obviously delighted for him. In terms of how well / quickly he can develop, I'm a bit torn. Watching him warm up pre matches some of his finishing has been technically excellent, but he's yet to look much of a threat in games. Obviously as a striker a lot is to do with confidence so pre season will be very important. Fortunately for him, with j rod inured and lambert likely to get an extended holiday after the World Cup, he could be pretty much our only striker for part of pre season so should get plenty of opportunity to play, gain confidence, and hopefully score a few goals. It might work out really well for him. Whatever happens, I wish him the best of luck.

Veho announced as new main club sponsor of Southampton Football Club
Chewy replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Good point. The first thing I did was look at their website and I actually quite like some of their products. When my latest overpriced iPod headphones get lost or chewed by the cat I might just replace them with some from Velho instead. -
There are lots of unknowns, and he may well leave, but one of the few categoric statements we have from the board is that we do not need to sell anyone that the manager doesn't want to. All this talk of him leaving and family silver being sold is garbage IMHO. What his issue clearly is, is what further investment will be made. Every fan knows we are 3 to 4 players short of really pushing on, which will probably cost at least 60 million in fees and wages. Are the board willing or able to invest that? If not, mopo will feel he's got us as far as we can, and one or two players may ask to leave, but I have no doubt that any fees received if players do go will be invested back on the team, so we won't necessarily be weaker than we currently are. It will be hard to find a manager as good as mopo, but not impossible. It will be hard to replace lallana, but again not impossible. I would love the board to back mopos vision with millions spent, but if they don't, I I'm not going to wail and sob, nor do I expect that to mean we will be back as relegation candidates. This site is so intellectually and emotionally immature. There is a middle ground between mopo and players all staying and all being well, and being a selling club fighting relegation.

Brilliant. It was just a bit of unusual grass cutting but thanks to your words is now worthy of a turner prize nomination.

They've got more white on their shirt than we do. And a better sponsor. I'm going to support Swindon, because after all these are what really matter in football. -

How's have they blown the decision, alps? Do you have any idea what the deal is worth? Thought not. And I can't imagine you'd have been looking forward to the summer anyway; you don't seem to look forward to anything other than a saints loss so you can rant on the match thread. Get a life.
