The Southampton Way - Supporters Edition
Steeleye Saint replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
Think this might disappear without trace too. -
You'd think so, but do we someone else, as whatever he's doing clearly isn't working?
-
Just read on the BBC website that Steve Bould has really helped improve Arsenal defensively, so, rather than sacking Nigel, why don't we bring in someone like that? Arsenal like to play open attacking football so it shouldn't stop us playing the "Southampton Way" should it?

What's the wierdest thing you've ever seen someone do at football?
Steeleye Saint replied to kwsaint's topic in The Saints
You really won't believe this one – but I swear it actually happened - I once saw our manager substitute his three most effective players in a game against one of the best teams in the country! We lost 3-2 I think... -
He should be excited, not stressed, waiting to become a father – when the baby arrives he won't know what's hit him!

Love it!

Jason Puncheon "does not cut the mustard" for me
Steeleye Saint replied to Miltonroader07's topic in The Saints
Totally agree with this. He seems to be up for it and wants to prove himself so give him a chance ffs. He has ability - if he can now deliver for us it's all good isn't it? -
Thanks for sorting that out for us – so much for a reasoned debate on the subject. Lock the thread mods – DJ has spoken!

The people who decided not to attend games in League One and the Championship will no doubt now return to the fold to bask in the glory. Is there a case for a loyalty scheme whereby those supporters who have supported the club week in week out for the last few years, but can't afford a season ticket, are given priority when purchasing match tickets for the Prem? I'd imagine that a hard headed businessman like NC won't care where the money comes from as long as the stadium is full every week, but won't it inevitably mean that some regularly attending, diehard fans will miss out in the coming seasons?

Summer 2012 HCDAJFU Thread - Premier League Special Edition

You're easily amused. -
Yes that's exactly what it's all about- new kit this year followed by fans' disapproval and back to the red and white stripes next year. Ka-ching!

I was looking through the team photos from previous years on here http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?38841-Saints-Team-Photos and it has confirmed, to me at least, that we really look best in plain red and white stripes, without any embellishments. (see 1970-71 season http://www.teammead.co.uk/saintsfc/1970.htm) It's a strong identity and against it this new one looks dull and uninspiring. I hope this is a one season wonder and we can get back to being us next year.

He didn't get a chance to show what he could do in the Championship, but had he been fit when we were a little short in the striking dept may well have shown his worth and earned us some extra points. Don't think he'd make the grade in the Prem though so a move to Palace would be a good one for him. Good luck to him.

Southampton Player Trivia: Anyone know any pointless facts?

Joan of Arc dead? When did this happen? -
Anyone remember a radio programme called Sounds Interesting on Radio 3? Early seventies I think. Hosted by a very well spoken man called Derek Jewell. He introduced me to the likes of Wishbone Ash, Gentle Giant and more that slip my mind - he was quite an influence on me at the time. I used to live in a flat in Reading, and one Christmas Eve I was trying to get to sleep – Christmas Day was going to be full on – and the guy in the flat downstairs was playing heavy rock music quite loudly and I went to ask him to turn it down - I know, bah humbug and all that. Anyway, he did, but the music he was playing stuck in my mind, and I only found out years later what it was and who it was by, and I still play it occasionally and bask in the memory of those days when I was an old man before my time. Xanadu by Rush was the name of the track. Have you all forgotten about Jimi Hendrix? Any thesis on Prog Rock surely has to include the master doesn't it? Are You Experienced was a real eye, sorry ear opener for me and after that I had to have more of the heavy stuff. Yes and Jethro Tull were among my favourites too. Mike Oldfield with Tubular Bells too - not sure if it's prog rock but definitely a classic concept album.

Winning the Playoff Final, Is it better?
Steeleye Saint replied to fareham saint phil's topic in The Saints
The expressions 'fannies', and more often 'wet fannies' seem to be used frequently on this forum as insults. I'm wondering why? In my experience the wetter the fanny the better. -
Brilliant stuff George - really enjoyed it!

I've spoken to a West Ham supporter who was there yesterday - he said as soon as it became clear we weren't going to lose, they took off Cole and Vaz Te to protect them and played out the rest of the game like a practice match. I don't think it was arrogance - although they have had a lot of that this season - it was a sensible move to make sure their players are fit for the play-offs. Just because a so called skate (get over it) made the comment doesn't mean it's not true. I think there should be a rule introduced that if the side in third place is 10 points clear of the one in fourth then they should go up as they are clearly so much better than the rest. There have only been three teams in it this year and for one to miss out now is cruel.

The what are you wearing to the Coventry game thread
Steeleye Saint replied to This Charming Man's topic in The Saints
I've been worrying about this all week so glad for some advice. If my tux doesn't get back from the cleaners by this afternoon I'll be in a right state. What other options are there? Really want to look my best and come up to your standards Charming Man. -
Wouldn't want plain red because of Arsenal, ManU Liverpool etc. Really like the Denmark halves shirt – I bought one a couple of years ago as a retro, so I wouldn't need to buy a new one! It would always need to have mainly red, with white and black though - can't imagine a change to a completely different colour. I wasn't particularly keen on the sash - it was OK for one season but there was too much confusion when the crowd sang Come On You Reds and the opposition had more red on than we did! Perhaps wider stripes than Stoke or Sunderland would work.

I'm trying hard to think positively but admit I am worried that the season might fall apart at the last. The permutations keep going round in my mind too – can't seem to stop thinking about it. Really don't want to go through the agony of the play offs but I suppose if that's the way it turns out then so be it. Win on Tuesday and we're up and running again - lose or draw and W Ham win and we'll be struggling – here I go again! Is there a psychotherapist in the house?
