  1. This just isn't on. A man's got to buy his round. He can't come into our club, order drinks for everyone and then swan off without paying, just because we've got billionaire owners. That's just plain wrong.
  2. I left after the second goal. The first time I've ever left a Saints match before the final whistle. In acknowledgement of MKD, they brought on a bit of muscle up front and it worked, although it didn't take much, given our players' commitment to the cause.
  3. He could start here by instilling a little positivity and belief. http://www.newsnow.co.uk/A/444569257?-11205
  4. If there is underway, a change of approach with regard to the media, could it be down to Cortese apparently having engaged PR Company Square1? The following may well have been posted on here as I was abroad when published by the Mail on 3/9. "David Bick , Square 1’s financial PR ringmaster who orchestrated the Liverpool takeover media frenzy, has given himself a double task surely beyond even his creative abilities. He will defend the way media-banning Nicola Cortese is running Southampton and try to convince us that China’s Kenny Huang, who has withdrawn his bid, will be the next owner of Liverpool".
  5. Bournemouth Chairman said this: "He's made his mind up - he's staying, whether they [southampton] come back or not." (quoted on the BBC). I reckon Howe was sounded out as to whether he would take the job if it were offered. That would be quite differed from being offered the job and would not mean he'd turned us down.
  6. If he was indeed actually offered the job (which I believe is doubtful) then of course he turned it down, he was second choice. Best decision for both sides as well.
  7. The value of a manager is what the the 'buyer" is willing to pay for him.
  8. No apology necessary. At worst it was hyperbole...not unknown in the media. In any case, the interview process isn't yet complete and no appointment has yet been made.
  9. I never thought of Southgate but this makes quite a compelling argument for him.
  10. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2010/sep/06/southampton-nicola-cortese-alan-pardew? "Southampton sources claim the club have received more than 50 applications to replace him, including one from a serving Premier League manager, and plan to make an appointment this week but, before doing so, they will presumably provide their preferred candidate – currently believed to be the S****horpe United manager Nigel Adkins – with an explanation as to why Pardew was dismissed, something they have yet to offer fans". Who might that be?
  11. I think you may have rather missed the point of the gift.
  12. Not so if the aim is automatic promotion, i.e. at least 2nd place. Charlton play Oldham next Saturday.
  13. Or this one from Ernie Hunt and Willie Carr of Coventry City.
  14. He came from nowhere, saved the club and departed just as suddenly. RIP Markus Liebherr.
  15. How poor are they that have not patience! What wound did ever heal but by degrees? Thou know'st we work by wit, and not by witchcraft; And wit depends on dilatory time."
  16. I agree it's about a lot more than paying. How does SFC get paid via Football DataCo and licencing arrangments then?
  17. If the media pay for the moving image, why not for stills?
  18. Wally's got previous. See this (top right) http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/251299/I-was-betrayed-by-Benitez.html
  19. The main problem was that he seemed sometimes to lose concentration. If the coaching staff can sort that out, I think he'll do ok.
  20. Impressive performance by the Germans. Their passing and movement were excellent. The Australian defence was so flat and high up the pitch though it was untrue.
  21. KD's kicking isn't good. He concedes possession too often, though that's true equally of many English keepers, exacerbated by the number of times English defenders pass back to the goalkeeper. Compare with England the number of times the best of the countries at the WC pass back to the keeper. The likes of Brazil and Spain tend to go forwards rather than pass back to the keeper.
  22. I would have preferred Walcott to Wright Phillips and Dawson to Upson. Otherwise as expected. Heskey partners well with Rooney and our hopes rest with Rooney.
  23. Don't say Ryanair, or they'll be charging for the toilet next.
  24. You should have used your debit card then.
  25. The players want to avoid injury. Your last sentence is a cracker.
