On another subject... best goal scored by a defender?
Jimmy_D replied to kwsaint's topic in The Saints
Does Delap count as a defender? -
http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?48561-Cortese-has-left-Southampton-Football-Club#.UtbcvHmetBU Onto a new thread now it's confirmed officially.

Probably the best case scenario if the reports are true, but I doubt that will happen. Would be funny to see the reaction of Pompey fans if it does though Still only reports from third parties currently, one of a journalist's magic words 'expected' sat in there. Does look likely he's on his way though. One encouraging thing is that all the reports of keeping hold of players etc. from the club have presumably come after he tendered his resignation, if that report is true.

SSN in their current reports are saying that Cortese has confirmed he wants to leave, but what the source is for that I have no idea. As far as I can see, it all started with reports that Cortese wanted to leave in the summer, and then escalated rapidly when it was reported that he had handed in his resignation. That then changed to conflicting reports that the resignation had been refused, and reports that the resignation hadn't been handed in. Now there are conflicting reports that there's a row between Cortese and KL, which has been caused by the owner wanting more control, or the owner wanting to sell, or Cortese wanting more backing, and that Cortese's future is unclear. Further muddying the waters is that the reactions of the manager and players from when this happened during the summer are being re-reported, and it's not being made clear that they aren't reactions to the current situation. Meanwhile, in line with Saints' usual method of dealing with speculation, there's been no official response.

I like this page, it feels like a good number.

Seems remarkably similar to the situation during the summer now. Guess it's just a case of wait and see again.

SSN actually reported all three of those within a couple of minutes of each other at one point.

I was there for his goal against Derby! Cracking goal it was too, felt at the time he would push on and become a decent player for us after that, but it was pretty soon after that he got that bad foot injury if I recall correctly. He never really got another chance after that.

Seedorf retiring from playing to take the role of manager apparently. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25733133

£30 million for for Luke Shaw should we take it?
Jimmy_D replied to modern matron's topic in The Saints
If we do turn down a bid of £30m for him, sends out a hell of a message. To other teams, to the media that would be all over it as well, to us fans that the ambition is serious, and to other potential targets that we're serious about the ambition and the story we sell. -
Dunno, definitely looks like he gets the ball there.

Brilliant assist for the goal from Gaston, didn't really see the save, but just saw it bounce out and heard Northam cheer like we'd just scored. We've finally broken the curse of Webb!

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/w/west_ham_utd/8139903.stm Davis walked off of Premier League West Ham's training ground to rejoin us in League One on -10. From then, he captained us to a win at Wembley, and then to back to back promotions to get us back into the Premier League, winning the keeper's spot in the league's team of the year each of those years. For the level we were at, he was more class than we probably deserved. I'm not sure we could have got a better keeper than him had he left, and certainly at the time we couldn't have known how much we were going to be backed by Markus. I'm not sure we'd be back in the Premier League yet had he not stayed. Apparently, he was (and still is) also responsible for a huge amount of the good morale in the team off the field as we came up, helping to build the close knit team we see today. To add to that, THAT game at Leeds, one of the best keeping performances I've seen. He certainly qualifies as a legend in my book.

And I thought FIFA was glitching when that happened.. Isn't he their new defender they just bought?

Has anyone got George Weah's cousin's number?

Difference between a player giving abuse to a ref and the ref giving it back is significant. Player gives it out and yeah, it's bad and should be punished, but it doesn't make you question whether the player is doing their job. If a ref gets personal about insulting a player, you have to question whether they're going to be impartial after that. A ref at the very top level of the game NEEDS to be above that.
