I suspect the 4-5-1 was employed yesterday because of the quality of the opposition. We'd have been torn apart for the whole 90 minutes rather than just the second half if we'd gone with a 4-man midfield, IMO.
  2. The bottles of Magners were fine
  3. Just a reminder: Please check the list of users on the original post. If you have contributed and your username does not appear on that list AND YOU PAID VIA PAYPAL, please let me know asap. Postal and/or direct payments to the bank account may not have arrived yet, so don't panic if you've paid via those means and your name isn't shown yet.
  4. A relief to be back. Enjoyed that, to be honest - first half we played pretty well and gave them a decent test. Well taken goal by Mills and how the ref gave that penalty I'll never know. Second half when we made changes it was always likely to give them a bit more impetus and they tore us to bits, understandably. At the end of the day, they're a very good side who will be one of the leading clubs in the Europa League this season. Losing 4-1 and running out of steam against a side of their calibre is no disgrace.
  5. Solent will still be broadcasting home and away, as far as I'm aware.
  6. Yep, got it, cheers
  7. To be honest, that last comment was always going to come back to bite you - there was no way they could have bowled as badly as they did at Cardiff. It just so happened that they pretty much went in the completely opposite direction.
  8. Post of the day, for me.
  9. Top 10, just missing out on the play-offs, I reckon.
  10. Agreed. It'll be interesting to see the performances/effort from the likes of Lallana and Rasiak tomorrow, given that they've been among the most maligned so far this pre-season. It's amazing how players can raise their game when they're genuinely playing for their places...
  11. To be fair, Nick, from the handful of Pompey games I saw on telly last season, Campbell was pretty woeful. They do appear to be doing their best to start the season with a squad of 6 players...
  12. Got to say I'm absolutely delighted with this appointment. Experience at this level, experience higher up as well, with success at those levels as well.
  13. I don't quite understand why people were wetting themselves over the prospect of Strachan coming back. He did a fantastic job here the first time around, but by the time he left it had gone very stale, and history tells us that returning managers are never much good the second time around.
  14. As a club starting League One with a ten-point deficit, if we can attract a manager with significant Premier League, Championship AND League One experience, I'll be absolutely delighted.
  15. Those who have paid by PayPal to date should now be listed in the first post - I don't think I've missed anyone, so if you have paid and aren't on that list, please let me know. Online bank payments won't clear until at least tomorrow, some will take until the middle of next week.
  16. Some banks will, some won't. Can't help much more than that, sorry You can send cash if you want - obviously at your own risk, though.
  17. No worries, found yours.
  18. There's an "Instruction to Seller" box - put it in there, that'll do.
  19. You're lucky I know your name then *stalking smiley*
  20. Yes, I'll try to update the original post on a daily basis with total amount raised and with a list of those who have contributed.
  21. If that means "who are we sponsoring?", that'll be decided when we get the list of who's available after the club have gone through their renewal process. The target amounts are £575 and £805 - these include VAT. If we make more than that, we can look at sponsoring more than one player, or donations to charity, or extra prizes, or a combination of those options. Yes, you get one ticket per £1. However, you can only win one prize. Clearly if you put £50 in and trousers puts £10 in, you've got 5 times more chance of winning something.
  22. By popular demand, here is how the SaintsWeb Forum Members player sponsorship will work. Firstly, thanks to Guided Missile for the initial idea, and also to thesaint sfc for doing some of the groundwork, getting prices etc. Contributions are welcomed from all forum members - anything between £5 and £50 per person. The reason we have imposed these boundaries are a) to keep banking costs down (anything below a fiver starts getting expensive), and b) so plenty of forum members get the opportunity to contribute and to stand a decent chance in the draw. The club are currently going through their sponsorship renewal period, so until that has been completed, we won't know for certain which players will be available to sponsor. As a result, the decision on who to sponsor will be deferred until that list is available. When that list is available, a poll will be taken among all those who contribute - each individual gets one vote - to determine which player (or players if we raise enough money) to sponsor. Contributors do so on the basis that they agree to be bound by the outcome of that vote. Towards the end of the season, the draw will be made for at least THREE prizes: Two tickets to the end of season Player Awards Dinner The player's signed match shirt Visit for two people to watch a training session exclusively for player sponsors, and to meet the player afterwards There may be additional mystery prizes Each contributor will be entered into the draw on a one-pound, one-entry basis, i.e. for every £1 contributed towards the fund, that contributor gets one draw entry, up to a maximum of 50 entries. Therefore, the more you contribute, the more chance you have of winning one of the prizes. A contributor can only win one prize. The prizes will be drawn in the order shown in the list above - if someone is drawn to win one of the prizes, they cannot then win one of the others as well. If we raise more than the amount required for one player but not enough for two players, the remainder of the money will either go to charity or towards additional prizes for the draw. Payment Details: The payment window for contributing to this is now closed. Please do not send any more money. I will update this thread on a daily (or so) basis with a list of users who have contributed (I won't put individual amounts) and the total amount raised.
