I hold Nigel Pearson in the highest regard both as a man and a manager and it's fascinating to speculate what he might have achieved here given the infinitely more favorable circumstances that Nigel Adkins has benefited from. Timing is everything in life they say - in my view Pearson was exactly the right manager for this club, unfortunately he was here at exactly the worst possible time. It's all academic now of course.

I get the impression that the 'Don' likes a bargain and refuses to pay (what he considers to be) over the odds for a player. As selling clubs tend quite understandably hold out for the best possible price this all leads me to suspect that any signings this summer are more likely to be later rather than sooner. As the club is losing money yet again you could well say that any responsible football club in our position shouldn't be 'splashing the cash' too readily anyway - a view I have some sympathy with. Nevertheless we're reliably informed that a long term strategy to return SFC to its former glories is in place and with that in mind I wonder if promotion will now unlock another tranche of Liebherr cash straight into the transfer kitty? Transfer Kitty - that darn cat always needs feeding .....

Mate, this bird wouldn't move if you put four million volts through him! 'E's bleedin' demised!

I think the chances of the President of the United States publicly stating that he was dead if there was even the remotest possibility of him turning up on TV tomorrow and making Obama look like the world's biggest idiot are about a quadzillion-to-1. 'E's passed on! This murdering bastard is no more! He has ceased to be! 'E's expired and gone to meet 'is maker! 'E's a stiff! Bereft of life, 'e rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed 'im to the perch 'e'd be pushing up the daisies! 'Is metabolic processes are now 'istory! 'E's off the twig! 'E's kicked the bucket, 'e's shuffled off 'is mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the bleedin' choir invisibile!! THIS IS AN EX-TERRORIST !!

Buzz off before I swat you.

It would a real 'result' on Saturday if our owners put in an appearance ..... whoever they are.

If someone could tell us who we'll sign and who we'll lose from the squad this summer then I'd hazzard a guess of how far we could go with it. Until that happy day this type of conjecture is the worst kind of idle speculation.

Video celebrating Saints' promotion from League One
CHAPEL END CHARLIE replied to SaintBobby's topic in The Saints
Super video which I suspect wasn't knocked up this afternoon ! Never mind you didn't jinx us. Watching this again - and although every point is of equal value of course - nevertheless it has to be said that Jose Fonte's late winner at the Withdean was truly massive for our season. With apologies to Neal Armstrong : -
This reminds me of a famous exchange of signals between two RN warships during WWII: Destroyer to MTB - "Good Luck" MTB to Destroyer - "Thanks but we were relying on skill"
-
Nice theory but in my view what you really don't want to be facing at this stage of the season are two teams fighting for their lives. I'm expecting nothing but a bloody hard fight from both Plymouth and Walsall.

Send 'em this Deppo - courtesy of Saintsweb. I'm sure it will bring back fond memories ... I certainly enjoyed it.

Top post & very fair. I believe Joseph Mills would have played more for donny but for a recent injury. In a effort to get a up to date view on this players progress I wasted far too much time recently surfing the Doncaster fan forums for relevant opinions - suffice it to say their forums are not quite as vibrant (or informative) as this one is.

Brentford 0 - 3 Saints - Post Match Reaction
CHAPEL END CHARLIE replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
Great result today and you can sense we're almost there now. I'd like to take a moment from our own promotion push to congratulate Huddersfield on the magnificent bloody effort they too are putting in - whichever one of us gets the last automatic place will totally deserve it. -
Agreed. Although he divides opinions on here for my money Morgan is the nearest thing we have to a 'playmaker' and lets face it, a little more creativity from midfield would not go amiss.
-
I don't think many would argue that he's very likely to be the best player in this division technically and quite capable of playing at a higher level - which he already has of course. If we must talk about his limitations then I suppose he's not outstandingly quick (or strong for that matter) but this lad is as fit as a butchers dog and has the stamina to run for you all day - just as (if not more) importantly his attitude towards the game is absolutely 'spot on' as well. You often get players with good ability but the wrong attitude - like Jason Puncheon for instance - and (more commonly) players with a great attitude but not enough ability (like Paul Wotton) but Adam Lallana gets pretty close to having it all. Could he play in the Premier League then? You never really can tell for sure until they try it, but for what its worth I think he could already be playing for a mid table Prem outfit. We're lucky to still have him.

Jose Fonte - Saints Web Player of the Season
CHAPEL END CHARLIE replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Put it this way - when Adam Lallana is missing we look very average indeed, surely the sign of what is not only a quality player but a vitally important one too. Mind I wouldn't argue with the those voting for Jose Fonte - he's been superb. -
While this is obviously perfectly true you seemingly have failed to realise that we're no longer allowed to say it - this counts as "moaning" on here and senior members (vast post counts = wisdom) have declared that type of thing 'verboten'. Behave yourself in future.
-
I wish you hadn't posted this - mainly because I wanted to say it. A smashing player and it will be fascinating to see him and that excellent prospect Joseph 'fish' Mills (presuming we get him back) fight it out for this position. If only the rest of the team would realise on occasion that Harding tends to cross to the far post rather than the near, then we might well have scored even more than we have this season.

Poyet compares us with Dagenham and Redbridge
CHAPEL END CHARLIE replied to thegaffer's topic in The Saints
Hang on a minute, maybe he's got a point. If you watch Fonte's winning goal for example it's about as 'route one' as they come - a long free kick from the keeper/header by a big defender/jobs a goodun. It should go without saying that any team that contains footballing talent of the caliber of Adam Lallana & AOC is of course much more than some mere 'hoofball' outfit, but lets face we're not always a particularly entertaining team for the purist to watch are we ? Ricky Lambert (on a good day anyway) can be a real aerial threat - but it must be said that whether a over reliance on that approach would get us very far at a higher level against bigger/quicker defenders is another question. -
Are Brighton really champions yet ?
CHAPEL END CHARLIE replied to Saint in Paradise's topic in The Saints
I understand the winners of this division receive £25k of prize money while the 'runners-up' only get a paltry £10k. For some bizarre reason we'd have got exactly the same for finishing 2nd in L2. -
I see a promising career in journalism ahead of you !
-
Why do so many other clubs (Brighton/Bmth and some on this Huddersfield forum) seem to consider that SFC is a particularly "arrogant" club ? With the possible exception of a handful of over active posters on here as far I can see this team, its manager, and the vast majority of our fans behave themselves admirably. Is this a (over)reaction to our 'high profile' Chairman, or just plain old fashioned jealousy ?
-
At long last a statistical point on here that is not only accurate but does actually mean something - well done my Saints !
-
I don't really know what to make of him, he is certainly quick (a vital attribute for any player) but I'd like to see more of him before drawing any firm conclusion. Even when I do make my mind up on a player I find it wise to keep a open mind - a bad player can improve over time and a good one deteriorate. I remember slating Stern John only for the player to force a change of view. Perhaps we should all try to exhibit a tad more humility at times. Who knows even Puncheon might impress me on next Saturdays Match of the Day - if he does I'll let you know.
-
My posting record is there for all to see - it shows I hardly ever use stats. But it does show a consistent and long held opposition to the misuse of statistics. If any set of numbers are not compiled accurately on a strictly comparable basis then they are of little or no use - indeed they can often be actively misleading. I have no real argument with Guly fans - we all have our favorites after all - but (just my opinion) his limitations come dangerously close to outweighing his contributions - put another way he's a bit of a luxury.
