  1. And let's face it James in particular has plenty of room to develop. Whilst I accept he had little or no protection from DMG on Tuesday he has probably spent the rest of the week on the treatment table being unknotted.
  2. I have to say I'm becoming increasingly fed up with every other new post on this forum being about fans / attendance. On page one alone we have the following (very closely) related threads: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=2530 http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=2532 http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=2563 http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=2550 http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=2527 I'm sure everyone appreciates the revenue from attendances is key to our future however people do not need to justify why they do or don't go to games and certainly not to uber-fans who come across as though they are better than others. Good football will bring them back and like it or not so will the Premiership. SFC is not alone in that attendances fall when droppping a division - it's a fact of life whether people find that hard to swallow or not. I'm open in that I don't go as much as I used too but I went last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Let's try having a few more threads on football rather than the petty point scoring and one-upmanship that is so prevelant right now.
  3. I'd say that was spot on Chez. Maybe would have given Robertson another point as I thought he was outstanding.
  4. Didn't look like 4-4-2 to me if you are referring to last night? More like 4-2-1-3. Both Surman and Cork seemed to be very central in front of the two CB's with Lallana in a free roll and Robertson, Peckart and DMG up front (then switched to BWP / Robertson / DMG). It was this lack of wide midfilders that seem to cause us problems when Norwich attacked as there was no protection for James and Mills. On the attack we look very dangerous but we also looked exposed when they attacked us down the flanks.
  5. Stunning performance from the new guy. He didn't look like a true left winger in those first 25 minutes and seems JP saw that as well. I was directly in line with him for his cracking goal. Once up the centre he gave us energy, running, good control, brought other players into the game and an eye for goal. If he carries on like his debut he will be a fantastic 'acquisition'.
  6. Another painfully anal post to cause more derision and angst amongst the fan base. Well done. A moaner moaning about the moaners, how ironic.
  7. James was horrific and that is no understatement. The 'problem' with our formation is there is no protection for the full backs. To operate with no wide midfield cover you need outstanding full backs and very mobile centre-halves. We don't have that. Robertson was outstanding and I was pleased to see JP recognise he was no left winger and put him straight up the middle. KD was also top drawer and his saves kept us in the game when it could have been very different. Norwich could easily have been 2 or 3 up in the first half. As for our 'penalty' well cough cough LOL!
  8. Wes started it Miss, honestly it was Wes.
  9. That's a matter of opinion I guess. If he was to try and stray from his restrictic vocabulary of 'flat caps, Lord Lowe, Golden Duo and class issues' then maybe he'd be funny but at the moment he is like a scratched record although how he gets so many bites does bring a wry smile I'll grant you.
  10. Oh how everyone's laughing....
  11. Couldn't agree more, spot on.
  12. I hope not Ponty. Plenty of posters have assured us he will bag 20+ goals this season.
  13. Same old SunnyDunce, backed into a corner and let's fly with childish and personal insults. He really is a silly little lonely man bless him. True to form though I'll give him that. His latest strategy is to put the blame of the clubs situation in the hands of the fans. You couldn't make it up. Ciao Troll.
  14. oops duplicate post
  15. At which point in a players career do you consider he should reach his potential. At 23 he's not young (in footballing terms) and has had a few years experience in the leagues with well over a 100 league games so do you think we'll be waiting much longer?
  16. Why be so defensive SOG? It's a forum and people are entitled to their opinions, afterall we are all SFC supporters so all views count. As for referring to Pearson then you can do what you like with stats so I'll throw that he only lost 4 games in his tenure and with a team he had little influence in for the first few games before managing to bring in a few needy loanees. Jan's had the whole preseason and alledgedly this is his team so the comparison looks even more favourably towards Pearson. It's even been suggested by some that it is now the fans fault that we are struggling. Not the team, or the manager, or one of the Chairmen or Board members or even backroom staff but no it's the fans
  17. If this is true it's somewhat ironic after the mutterings from the club regarding the poor attititude of some of the senior players that were disposed of. Plenty of leaks to that effect in any case or was that just a smokescreen to justify their departure.
  18. That's brightened up a dull start to the working week. Quality.
  19. I guess he was starting to believe the hype when the Club bigged him up in pre-season. It also seems a fair majority on here caught the bug as well. He's a legend in his own half-time.
  20. You are hypothesising are you not? It's all very well to make a short term 'financial' decision on a few £K's however if the long term is relegation it's not a very wise decision I'm sure you'll agree. Saga was treated abysmally last year and his few appearances reflected that. He's showed, with the right leadership he's a quality, experienced and proven goalscorer. Attributes we are found so wanting.
  21. Agree with your summation there TG. At this moment in time only 2 or 3 (Lancashire and Lallana, possibly Thomson) are of the required standard and this was recognised by previous managers yet we have a team that contains 6 or 7 each game. If we truly can produce a full team of graduates that can make the grade then Rupert is on to a real money spinner. Reality is though that only a very small percentage make the step up. Yes it's early days and yes there is a learning curve but these 'boys' have been playing football for 10 years plus and at a decent level for the last two or three years, they should have done much of their learning by now. The CCC is no doubt different to what they're used to but if they're good enough they'll adapt and prosper, if they're not then they won't make the grade.

    portaloo out

I recall a certain group of posters continually bringing up Pearsons record. I wonder if the same group will attach the same level of importance to statistics in Jans case. Take into account Pearon took over a team (not 'his' team) in freefall and managed to turn them around whereas we are led to believe this is Jan's team and one that he had a whole pre-season with. The reality is is that he's probably doing 'ok' with the team he's got and other than the selection questions of Sunday at the back then I'm not sure he's done a huge amount wrong.
  23. Do you really think fans of SFC act in any different way to those of the other 92 league clubs? No, I don't think so. All Chairman will come in for 'stick' at some point in time if the teams are not performing. It's life.
  24. Why is it 'pie in the sky'? We have some who the club have tried to force out and whilst they are not our saviours they could perform a stop-gap where we need it - especially if they are to remain on the books for the immediate future. The loan window will also give us access to these type of players. We might not want the extra burden of their wages but I'm sure we don't want to be in the bottom 3 come the end of the season either. Why was Wooton not at centre-half today? On the radio a couple of weeks ago Nicky Banger was saying he couldn't understand why Wooton was being touted as a midfielder as he played every game at Plymouth (when Banger was there) as a centre-half. There were plenty of options for midfielders but the bare bones at the back.
  25. Fully agree. We somehow need to bite the bullett and blend in some experience to tread water and nick a few points and get up the league. Total football is fine but this is a results orientated business. Relegation would be a catastrophic and unthinkable outcome for SFC. Yes it's early days but the brakes need applying PDQ.
