  1. So it looks like they have got away with it again, and once again they are trying to mortgage their way back into the big time. Hopefully QPR and Cardiff ( who are one winding up order away from being like the skates) will run away with it and Ipswich/Norwich/Leciester/Burnley/Hull will get the play off birth. I was hoping that the FL would show some balls, and not fall for AA's 'give us the golden share or the kitten gets it' routine, but the skates seem to have done a pact with Satan. The FL should have kicked them out, and get Stoke's reserve side to complete the rest of the fixtures.
  2. Ready to Start - Arcade Fire Elevate me Later - Pavement Definitely not New York Mining Disaster - Bee Gees Underground - Ben Folds Five
  3. His lack of strength and pace is probably what is keeping out of the PL at the moment, as it doesn't fit in with the English box to box plan as perdonified by Gerrard, Lampard, Huddlestone etc. A lot of posters commented on the world cup thread, that Xavi and Inesta would not have broken through in the PL as they are too small. AL is like Inesta's younger brother. Hope he can be persuaded to stay, bit if not. I hope he heads to Spain, where his talents would be more appreciated.
  4. Getting rid of a promising youngter on £2-3 K a week, so that you can bring in yet another experienced pro on £10K plus is financial genius. I seem to remember they did a similar thing in the 70's when they released Sir Mick Mills. They didn't meet the transfer target for the CVA, even though AA reduced it by 3 million, they are 3 or 4 thousand below the CVA attendance target, and the wage bill is 2 or 3 million above the CVA target.I'm not suprised that the league are taking their time in giving the the golden share. The three year plan seem to be **** or bust.
  5. I remember reading something over a month ago (Possibly the Guardian) that suggested that there could be a problem with Chinrai's takeover because the takeover ompany is registered in the Caribean, and it is not clear who owns it, a similar situation to the company that owns dirty Leeds. Perhaps the problem is that Chinrai is unwilling to disclose who else is in on the deal with him ?
  6. Sounded better to me, first home game that Saints have had a good 2nd half. Dickson and Holmes sounded useful. Solent commentator said he hasn't seen Saints or Pompey score a league goal this season, and he's just said he will be at Hillsborough next week. Take a sicky for the Saints, let someone else do it.
  7. Looks like the skates may have to drop the "Best Fans in the World" tag . http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/LatestNews/news/Supporters-Want-To-Get-Fratton-Rocking-Again-1364.aspx Perhaps the 5,000 members of the Fratton Faithfless that have gone missing were the ones who sang ( still got TTWTB though ) .
  8. I think it came from the cup game on the BBC when Arsenal ripped them a new one. They kept sing as the 5th or 6th goal went in, and the myth was made. If Saints 6.0 win at Wolves had been live on the telly, the same could have been said about their fans '6,5 we're going to win 6,5' changing seamlessly to '7,6 ...' as our 6th goal went in. The other thing I object to is the term 'Fratton Faithful' being used, just because both words start with the letter f . So does ****witt!
  9. Under the West Stand since promotion, but moved to the East under Nicholl when we got fed up of the constant wingin at PAul Rideout . People would complain that he wasn't as skillful as Le Tissier, and not as fast as Rod Wallace. I felt like telling them that a player as good in the air as Rideout, with the pace of RW and the skill of MLT would be worth 10 times wmore than Van Basten. Wonder what they made of Paul Moody ?
  10. I would have sympathy for them, were it not for the fact that they have signed half a dozen players this summer, and turned down offers for their best forward Tudgay. If you were to add up they signing on fees, extra wages and tranfer fee they would have received I don't think they would be much short of the money that they owe HRMC. They are doing what the skates did, but to the tune of £1m not £120M. A prudeny club would have sold some players to raise the tax bill, and then see who they could aford to sign afterwards.
  11. Bordeaux now for me, two hours away but only €16 to get in. Just as frustrating as Saints, 9 points clear at xmas but didn't even qualify for Europe after picking up 1 point in April from 6 games.
  12. Needs to work on his crossing, but then so does Puncheon, Lennon, Ashley Young, SWP .........
  13. Of course Brown says he want's the job. If he did not apply for it , he would have his job seekers allowance taken away.
  14. It is a good job that forums like this weren't around when McMenemy got Saints relagated, or when Dave Watson made his debut (4,0 loss at WBA), Svenson made his debut ( 3.0 loss at Anfield) or Keegan didn't score in his first two games. People seem to wan't eveything to be 100% perfect and delivered yesterday, if not the toys start to come out of the pram. None of us yet know why Pardew was sacked, who is to replace him, or what Guly can do if played in his proper position. Nobody likes uncertainty, but as the appointement of a new manager is out of our control, it is best not to worry about it and to wait and see. I would say that whoever is appointed needs time, but that would be a bit hypoctrical of me, as I couldn't stand Branfoot after the first 10 minutes I see Saints play under him.
  15. Can't agree that we missed the boat on that one. Phillips will get some premiership games at Blackpool, it's not like he is going to Arsenal/Spurs/Chelsea where he would have 2 or 3 years of reserve football ahead of him. It was never going to happen for us.
  16. Just seen that they have signed Flahavan on a months contract. Looking at their squad page on the Skatesweb, they now have 20 players listed, although that does include gregory, and another young player that they won't put on the bench. This doesn't give them much room to sign the two Stoke players, or Kanu for that matter. I can see frantic few days coming, as they try to manipulate the numbers to get a few new players in and stay under the 20 player limit. I would imagine that out of contract players, such as Kanu and HH, will be left on the shelf until they come out of admin, so that they can get the strongest squad possible. Even then they will probably still bleat on about how unfair it all is.
  17. That STAR story looks like an old qoute used for a bit of 2 +2 = 5 journalism. Mandaric has yet to hace the sale approved for half of Leicester at the moment. Before he can buy another club he needs to dispose of all of his interest in LCFC, so that could take some time. Mind you he has bought them out of admin before, and found someone to punt them onto, maybe he thinks that he could do it again ?
  18. It does make me laugh to see how people are lauded simply because they have made lots of money. There are questions that have been raised about Greens business methods, as well as the small issue of his wife being paid millions just to sun herself , tax free, in Monaco. There have been many such figures over the years, and many, such as the Enron bosses, Makel, De Lorien and even Mr Merdle in Dickens 'Little Dorrit'. And then lets not forget Sir Freddie Goodwin. I am sure that there are better qualified re-organisers out there, some of whom may even pay income tax.
  19. Says on the Skates officail site that they have sold boatang, and let four nippers go, to reduce their squad size. It would be nice if the league said that yes, they can replace the four teenagers, as long as the replacements are paid the same wages. However it is more likely that they will be replaced by some loanees, or free transfers on £10,000 a week plus 'image rights'.
  20. Coming soon, the freedom to fall off of faulty scaffolding, or by killed at work by bad wiring when they get rid of the Health and Saftey regs. Following that, the freedom to burn books .
  21. There have been so many allegations of dodgy dealings on transfers in this saga, I think that it is time for the FL/FA to step in and regulate it properly. As they already hold the player registration, I think that it is a natural progression for them to hold the transfer contracts, and maybe even the player's contracts. - All transfer payments to be made to the fl and the monies then to be distributed according to the contract (x% to the club y% to the agent etc) Any payments found to be made outside this contract (offshore cash, unauthorised agents etc) will result in punishment of the clubs and individuals concerned. - When a player is sold on, the settlement of any monies owed as a result of his subsequent transfer must be included in the new contract of sale ( Muntari, Diarra ...) - If a club defaults on any payments, it would immediately come under a transfer embargo, and the player concerned would be unavailable for selection. The PFA may not like this. so perhaps the player should still get his appearance bonuses . - The transfer embargo will remain in place until the club has repaid its outstanding transfer debts in full. This clause could get replace the existing football creditors rule, as clubs would be forced to play the team that they can afford , until such a time as they are up to date with their payments again. Any thoughts ?
  22. So, according to the news, the amount of money needed to meet the first CVA payment ( 10% of 15M) has dropped by 20% so that only £12M now needs to be raised. Does this mean that the amount of unsecured credit identified has also dropped by 20% , only two weeks after the court case. on the basis s=tat the reduction is not on the HRMC portion that AA allowed for the vote, that would make the pro CVA vote only 66% so HRMC would be able to block the CVA on these new figures. Bit of a coincidence, or bunch of shameless, amoral cheating fish fiddlers ?
  23. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/frattonlatest/Chainrai-puts-pen-to-paper.6475150.jp?CommentPage=3&CommentPageLength=10#comments I was so sick of some f the comments one the News site , about signing O'Hara back and redeveloping the ground, that I couldn't resist posting myself ( comment 25) . For those of you that don't speak french . La Raie is a kind of flat fish known in England as a SK*TE.. CHEATS
  24. Woods would be great, but I think he will play a big part for WBA this year. John Macken is still available on a free. Big bruiser, doesn't score much but could mix it up a bit.
  25. Disappointed but not surprised. There is a growing industry in the UK and US that exists to exploit the gap between the letter of the law and the spirit of the law. AA and the whole of the Skates senior management structure are just more of the same. It will be interesting now, to see what Chanrai does, and how quickly he can run off with his share of the parachute money. After that, there is the small issue of meeting the terms of the CVA - - So far only £5M of the 15 required has been raised in transfers. - The attendance and ST prediction was also ambitious - Ben Haim has gone on loan to West Ham, who wanted him to take a pay cut, so I am sure the skates will be paying a share of his salary. - Nugent and Utaka are still on the books, at £30k plus a week, with image rights on top! On top of this, we may find out soon what the FL may have in store for them in terms of a transfer embargo and then there are other issues such as outstanding tax evasion charges, the unlicensed agent in the CVA, and anything else that is uncovered if the forensic accountants can finally get to work.
