If this is the case, what I don't understand is why we're bothering to negotiate, or even play it out in the media. If we have in effect a contract to sign Toby we should send the funds and just get Toby over to sign his contract, shouldn't we?

When was the last time a current Southampton player played in a World Cup finals game? I know some of the legends in the banner played in World Cups, but not while at Saints. Has there been anyone since Terry Paine for England v Mexico in 1966?

If he goes to the World Cup and then is still with us next season, then I'd have him in the banner.

I'd really love the sash to become our 'permanent' kit. A strong nod to tradition, and nothing like Stoke/Sunderland. Failing that, I'd go for Rank Xerox style stripes.
