  1. But not in how to write clearly and succinctly. I suggest you listen to your boss, who sounds as if he was trying to tell you that both approaches can be useful at different times. There is no single right or wrong way all the time. It doesn't sound as if you were listening. Take head out of ar*e for a minute - you'll hear better.
  2. I didn't think you liked people to make snap, uninformed judgements... Presumably you will be posting here every day trying desperately to get some?
  3. I don't understand your point of view - if you have to be updated by his neighbour, and therefore haven't seen him yourself, how can you say he isn't quite right for us? Is your neighbour a professional scout? Baird recommended Saints take a look at him, and (whether you rate Baird or not) he was and is a football professional.
  4. Well the Saturday night cr@p on tv is still cr@p, so I hope you got yourself a dog to walk in place of the stroll to the newsagent (not in place of the missus!)
  5. I knew there was a reason I wanted to look out for it this weekend. B*gger. Loved watching MC smack it with almost no backlift at all. Once he hit the post against Pompey practically from the halfway line at the Dell. Think it was Milkins in goal and he barely moved.
  6. maybe we hope they'll play them.
  7. There we have the current christian ethic .. while the rich Jews were criticised for thinking that wealth made them better in the eyes of God, Christians on the other hand have an officially approved opt out clause - they don't have to give up their wealth to continue to be good Christians... I think the philosophical term for this is H Y P O C R I C Y.
  8. Being a football supporter bears all the hallmarks of religion. Make a team of nobodies heros, give them a leader and worship the ground he walks on, then when his luck runs out, crucify him. Years later he's worshipped again, and some ass will write the definitive book about him, starting with where he was born.........
  9. Why? I'ts like the fatuous "Wish you all luck" comment when they push the lotto start button. None of us know the bloke, all we know is that he has "earned" a living from football for a number of years when his record suggests he's getting far more opportunities in the professional game than the vast majority ever get. Does he deserve such an extended chance? Probably not. Do I care whether he prospers elsewhere or not? Not really. Opportunities to be a pro footballer are limited, why would I hope he prospers at the expense of others who I also don't know? If he does ok, good for him. If he fails, then tough luck. If he is a nice bloke then I hope he earns a living doing something for which he is suitable.
  10. Do you think Pardew saying he was after another striker on loan might have helped? I think maybe he was getting an 'I'm indispensable" notion that may just have been arrested.
  11. He might score for fun, but it certainly doesn't seem as if he will score for his wages.
  12. Doesn't make much difference in Thomas' case. If he had been picked, he'd have broken a toe nail or something within a couple of games and be back in the treatment room. I'm certainly no Lowe fan, but statements about Thomas's "fitness" I'd take with a shovelful of salt. He must have caught Paharsitis off the physio table.
  13. Why don't you get a job as a groundsman? If you could persuade head honcho to let you sit on the mower, we tould turn up to a mowing pattern of "I Hate McMenemy" in ever-decreasing circles.
  14. That's what Adolf Hitler said to the germans - "you will all like everything about the new Germany -- and we will burn anyone who crticises anything about it." Bit of a latent tyrant really, aren't you? Southampton FC's Josef Goebbels.
  15. Wasn't AP given a long contract? Sacking him will cost quite a bit. I cannot see that happening. Actually, I'm not sure he'd be sacked even if we get relegated.
  16. But do we, really? We've signed a decent forward at this level. A reasonably good midfilder at this level. The rest? A 34 year old "has been" centre half. A rather untalented centre-back who can head it and not a lot else. An questionable left back. The remainder are really no change on last season when we looked an L2 team most of the time. Pardew will get an improvement out of them, I'm just not sure the raw material is really good enough.
  17. Whoopee.. the start of another 3 match run before yet another period of injury. To be frank, I think Pardew left Thomas on the whole game last time he played when he was clearly "struggling", as a coded message saying "no you ain't coming off just because your Elliman's Linament has worn off, so stop the hobbling around...".
  18. 1 week?? That sounds more like a trial to me... unless we are trying to give him a little holiday to do a bit of hiking on the moors.
  19. I've also got a £20 betting slip at 200/1 for Hughie Fisher to repeat his round 3 feat - to get the last goal in the 90th minute. For sale at a bargain price of just £25... and you never know....you might be lucky...
  20. Or you are driving legitimately up to the speed limit, try to overtake someone, only to have to swerve back in because some complete t*sser has used a high-sided vehicle to hide behind when changing lanes so he can do 100.
  21. Hooray, at last. someone who sees our great academy for what it really is (and has been for ages).
  22. Who else would someone with a near-terminal case of "Obsessional McMenemyae Disorder" be talking about? I hear any re-run of the 1976 FA Cup Final video in the care home throws him into a such a foaming mess it frightens all the other inmates half to death.
  23. Do you have a box? Any chance of you getting back in it?
  24. Or NC/ML pulled the club out of the flames despite the administrator?
  25. So do you suppose that compacency in training is something that is a new thing, just making it's appearance under Pardew? If you agree that compacency did precede Pardew (and I think we all know something was seriously wrong), then it doesn't appear to have been dealt with successfully before, does it. So were the previous managements clowns or just plain inadequate?
