TBF the only turmoil and intrigue that has been generated has been on here. I love the way that some on here create scenarios based on the square root of F**k A** actual knowledge and then go off on multi-post rants about it.

Cortese does not have a record of being an idiot with money. We are not going to to given an explanation of why we have taken this route but I am prepared to accept that there are good reasons. It seems to me from this thread that there are a lot of people who want to worry themselves into an early grave over what is common business practice.

I only have the radio commentary to go on but Merrington was worried from the start at the amount of space we were conceding on the wings. His point was that if you set up narrow then the whole team have to move left or right quickly enough to shut the wings down and they simply were not doing that. My feeling was that, yesterday, the back four could not really be held to blame - more the set up and the failure of the modfield and front to shut the opposition down. I don't understand why you cannot be set up one way for attack and differently when you concede possession. IMHO, as good as JayRod is - he is not good in the wider role and puncheon should have been brought on at half time in his place. One positive thing that did emerge though was that half way through the second half JWP suddenly became the focus for everything good that we were doing. Perhaps he is getting his confidence up and will continue to improve.

If you spent more than 10 minutes on this board you would realise that that is his reason for existence. Look at all the threads that have turned into endless ripostes between him and some poster or other and now you are being drawn in.

Gemmel - why don't you email your comments to whoever is in charge of policing. I think that what you are saying is quite an important point that needs to made. i.e if police arriving at a situation do not see any obvious trouble then they should just keep a discreet profile. I thought that the Villa fans were A-OK and I had a chat with some after the match.

Agreed - Puncheon has been a revelation this season, Clyne, Schneiderlin, Lallana, Steve Davis, JWP ad SRL all excellent and will scare a lot of defences this season.

I am flummoxed by the criticisms of Davis on here. What did he do wrong - the goals were not his fault. WHo was responsible for allowing Van Persie space on his own for the first goal and for not putting him under pressure for the third one. The ball for the second goal could have broken to anyone but sadly it was RVP. To my mind the substitutions were responsible for the loss because they unbalanced the team. There is no point in picking on individual players today. I am a big fan of NA but I am afraid today's loss is down to him . The team was coping admirably and then totally lost their way after the subs. - plus - we were playing united and any slip up will get punished. I am NOT calling for NA's sacking - anybody advocating that is being ridiculous.
