Post-Match Reaction: SAINTS 2-0 Bournemouth
captainchris replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
This sitting deep second half is a tactic which Koeman needs to sort out pronto !!!! It is happening happening more than you have actually highlighted. Man U, Liverpool even Villa the other night to some extent and probably others too... We are 30 yards too DEEP - sort it out!!!! -
Absolutely - you could not call that an assist ....
-
Some very dodgy scoring there I'm afraid. Vvd was excellent the whole game. Pelle scored but otherwise contributed little through out and particularly first half, Gaston admittedly was played out of position but was very average or below that... Victor actually played pretty well. He might look lethargic but he's actually putting a shift in..
-
You can hardly call that an 'assist' it was a pass which Yosh turned into a chance - that's not an assist.... Ok Gaston is not a right winger and shouldn't be played out there but he was very average indeed tonight - along with several others admitedly but still not any where near the first eleven ...
-
Disagree with most of that!

Why doesn't RK play Tadic on the left all the time? Proves every time he plays there that this is most effective position. JWP is poor in central midfield and particular behind the striker.... He was ok out on the right but hasn't been there since? Ramirez on the other hand is best behind the striker but gets put out on the right????? Wtf? Little surprise that both were ineffective ..... We gave away the pen because we stand off wingers and do not engage them. This is glaring Tadic is the worst offender but the others repeat this and just allow the player to either cross or run with the ball at our pen area. We gave away the goal at Liverpool by giving the wide player acres to cross the ball in with no closing...... ENGAGE the player don't watch them.... First half we we pretty dire, Pelle was on holiday for God's sake.... Second was slightly better. Villa were very poor mind.... Who was our new right back tonight? He looked decent!!!! ;-)
-
Agree he hasn't looked remotely ready for the first team as yet so not sure he would rank as in our strongest eleven.....
-
He's had chances - lots of them! How many more would you prescribe exactly?
-
Not surprised at all to hear there were so many pointless questions and fans bugging themselves up st this event.... The amount of numpties who come on here before a game telling everyone why they won't be able to make the match .... Nobody actually cares, it's not important what you do or relevant.... Some people actually think it's important that they are a fan - it's not .... Only to you... As for women's football - and whether a comment could be construed as sexist and therefore offensive is wasted energy..... I have not listened to the recording of the forum but it sounded aweful.... Very glad I wasn't there to endure it.... So few people seem interested in asking first team technical football questions .....
-
We are very poor at defending deeply. Ref Man U and Leicester so we need to press and play a high line otherwise we will get stuffed....
-
Have to say I was always a fan but watching him recently and again tonight against Stoke he has been pretty poor....
-
Classie is so far short of the first team at the moment he needs to go and train and get games for u21s for quite a while.. He is so far off I'm not sure if he can be ready for a month or so - maybe if at all ..... Bizarre why he was preferred to Romeu .....
-
Very good points .... Koeman does struggle tactically when things are not going well. Also struggles with the right subs to correct the areas that need changing....Both areas are linked in as much as RK does not read the issues all that well on days when we are not in control. Same mistakes today as per the Man U game too deep and stopped pressing - very simple but RK doesn't pick up on the game's specifics and doesn't get the messages on the pitch to change the way we play when required ...
-
Well why the surprise on the evidence so far he not exactly that good!
-
I watched Bertrand closely throughout the first half and he was very impressive. His positioning was top drawer dragging their midfield out when not in possession and lots of accurate passing and great intelligent play when in possession. Was not given the credit he was due by crappy big team populist commentator.... Call me bias but looks a better player than Luke Shaw to me... For what it's worth Kane was awful and Clyne was very average with the trademark poor crossing and frequent stray passes.
-
But, we have already employed four ip front on several occasions this year and really struggled so tempting as it is to assume this criteria is a great tactic in the premier league you have to employ slightly more caution and control midfield........ Particularly against Swansea or we will get murdered....
-
'Qualified' firstly football is not nuclear physics! Secondly there are several managers past and present that were nothing as footballers.... What exactly is 'qualified' and what difference does it make - none... Keep football in perspective - it's 99% common sense off the field.. We have 'qualified' people looking after health, fitness, diet, business, money, contracts etc but football tactics and team selection do not require the brain of Britain!
-
Yes one or two players could have done better - that is often the case but the guy that worries me is Koeman... He gets something right then changes it... He doesn't recognise issues developing in the game. The massive that lost us this game was we stopped pressing after we scored.... Koeman did nothing - did not get the message to the players he just lets situations continue..... He has to be much sharper in his thought processes. We sat off and the good teams press all the game...
-
Forgot to say if Yadic is on the left and Romo back in with Mane we can win this! 1.0 for me.... :-)
-
Those press conferences are becoming more and more rediculous. If questions are off topic the journalist should be told to to address Southampton related or the actual game topics or leave the room. Talk about dumb questions. Do you have to have to own any intelligence these days to be a journalist ? For Gods sake let a fan go in and ask the questions and make the journo's sit and take notes..... Pathetic! Who the hell was he?
-
Yes but Pahars was a much better player...
-
Very odd team selection. Sometimes Koeman tries to be too clever for his own good.... Not sure what possible reason he could have for dropping Romlau and Mane.... If it's not bust why change it?
