I once made damson gin but was a bit disappointed. It seemed a little "thin" and tasteless when compared to sloe gin. I don't think that the quality of the gin matters at all when making sloe gin. If you ever go to USA try and find a "Liquor store." THere you can buy bottles of locally produced gin (and vodka come to that) in 1.5 litre bottles for c £10. I have found this ideal for making sloe gin. Tax is already paid so you are not constrained by duty free limits - the only problem is the airline's weight allowance. Many states in the US do not have "Liquor Stores". The best one I have found was in Delaware. I have also found good ones in New Hampshire & Florida - but many states do not have them.

I think any cider would do. The gin from the sloes makes the sloe cider very potent so I do not think you would want a strong cider.
-
It is hilarious isn't it. Whenever Corp tries to do some maths it ends the same way. Mind you , he is probably a mathematical genius compared to the other dunderheads at Pompey.
-
Keep the sloes once you have decanted the gin. Keep them in your bottle / demijohn and then add cider to them. Leave for 3 weeks or so , shaking every day or so and what you have then is a pretty special brew. Its pretty powerful stuff - but certainly slips down nicely.

Well you did... but you didn't argue very well did you?? I suppose that it is difficult to argue that you are not financially fcked when 6 players get paid more than your gate receipts for a season. You did try to argue your case but you diidn't do very well. Ever since then you have come up with increasingly strange stories about Saints. I suppose that if you can keep your head in the sand , you will not notice how close you are to the precipice.
-
Has anyone else noticed how Corp's posts have changed - and I don't just mean that he is no longer telling us "if the rumour about where the money's coming from (and how much of it there is ready to be used on players and improving the club) are true you lot are going to be pig sick." (see post 143 on this thread written a long time ago but rather funny knowing what we know now). He seems to have given up trying to tell us that Pompey are not financially fcked and how they can break even on their crowds of 14k. Instead he seems to have turned his attention to Saints and telling us things that we never knew about our team - like Lambert threw a wobbly because he didn't go to Newcastle. That we do not own our training ground. That Barnard is on £25k a week. I daresay next week we will learn that Marcus Leibher was a Nazi tank driver or that Adkins is really a Pompey fan or some other such rubbish dreamed up in the pubs of Portsmouth. Its almost as if he wants to divert our attention from the mess at Pompey. My guess is that as December 18th draws closer, the number of Corp Ho's posts will reduce. He will probably go into hiding again making a brief appearance to tell us nonsense such as Richard Chaplow is David Armstrong's secret lovechild or that Cortese eats babies with his spaghetti and pizza. You never know , perhaps he now agrees with Fitzhugh Fella that Pompey are heading for the precipice and financial disaster!!

Sorry mate. There is no way that game will be played at 3 pm on a saturday.
-
I agree with what you say about Mack (and Corpse). My response was to pfc 123

No. You have just imagined that you have read the last few hundred pages. What a thick, stupid skate.
-
Do you have any more information from your original source ??
-
No. the point of the matching bet is that the bookie also puts on £30 for you at the same odds. Its the kind of thing that bookies do to tempt you in and then for you to lose your money with them. The only thing that they won't do is give you the stake back for the "matching " bit of the bet. So therefore (unless you already have a Sky Bet account) you open up an account with them and put £30 on Pompey to get relegated. Sky then match your £30 with another £30 meaning that you have £60 on them to get relegated at 11/2. This will return £330 plus your original £30 making £360 in total.
-
The thing is that Pompey have been here before. However you present the numbers they are financially fcked (6 players between them costing over £1 million more than the season's gate receipts - and that is erring on the high side in revenue calculations !!!) . The only option is for Corp Ho and ourselves to at least make some money out of them. I did this 2 years ago when I got some incredible odds (c. 10/1) on them being bottom at Christmas and being relegated when they hit the financial buffers in the Premiership.. Just find a bookie offering odds on them being relegated this season. There are plenty on the internet offering 11/2 which I reckon is pretty good odds. If you go to Sky Bet and open up an account with them, they will match your first bet up to £30 - so £30 invested will return £360. Its got to be worth it. Go on Corp Ho. You know it makes sense. Bet on Pompey being relegated and you will be quids in.

I cannot really believe that you want to carry on with this particular debate. I thought that your absence from this board over the last few days was your tacit acknowledgment that you were wrong but clearly not. You want to continue this debate. I am not quite sure what you are trying to prove but I guess that you want to show that you are really, really currently living within your means. Lets look at a few facts - taking your numbers where we can: Lets suppose that your average attendance will be 14,500 this season. I think that this is unlikely. We will fill your stadium for you and that will increase your average but so far this season you have averaged 14,247. Your last attendance was 12,102 which looks ominous and must cast doubt on your average being 14,500 - but lets take your figure. You claim that the average revenue is £22. Others on this forum have cast doubt on it being this much but lets again take your figure. Taking your figures your gate receipts will be £6.1 million this season -after VAT: £ £ Revenue before VAT per match 319,000 Revenue before VAT per season 7,337,000 Deduct VAT at 20% -1,222,833 Revenue per season 6,114,167 Now lets look at some of your outgoings. You do not seem to dispute the posts on here that say that TBH is on £36k per week, Kitson and Lawrence on £20k per weeek and you say that Varney and "a couple of others" are on £15 k per week. I am not sure why there are only a "couple of others" on this much - Halford, Kanu and Moekana would all be on decent wedges whilst I am sure that Norris didn't leave Ipswich to be one of the lower paid players but lets take your figures and just assume that there are only a couple of others on £15k per w eek: TBH = £36 k per week =- 1,872,000 Kitson = £20k per week = 1,040,000 Lawrence = £20k per week = 1,040,000 "Varney and a couple of others"= £15k per week 2,340,000 Total wages for 6 players 6,292,000 National Insurance at 13.8% on 6 players wages 868,296 TOTAL WAGE COSTS FOR 6 PLAYERS 7,160,296 So in other words just 6 of your players will cost more than £1 million more than your gate receipts this season - and thats using your dodgy numbers!! Of course you have other sources of income. Like the Cups. I am sure that the proceeds from your League Cup run will go a long way to flling the gap. How many did you get watching your game against Barnet?? 4,464 wasn't it?? Your share of that would pay the wages of TBH for what, 3 days??? Of course I forgot the other sources of income. Like the hospitality boxes that all clubs have these days- oh I forgot about you. Never mind. I just hope for your sake that CSI have deep pockets because without them digging deep there is no way that you are going to get £13 million income... and you are going to need at least £ 13 million to keep going. In addition to the high earning 6 players you have another 15 (by your reckoning) to pay. And the Clot wants to be paid, As do the coaching staff. And Lumpitt. And the rest of the "business." Keeping a football club going is pretty expensive these days. Apparently your lot flew to Leeds the other day. Perhaps they should have hitch hiked!!
-
An instant classic!!
-
Now come on Corp. You know jolly well that you are not very good at numbers so why do you try?? This is one of the funniest posts you have written. You have forgotten VAT in your sums. You have forgotten that other people at the club like the Clot need to be paid. You have wildly overstated the price of a ticket (average £26 !!!) and even then your dodgy maths gets you to players wages = 125% of turnover - before owners's contributions. How about all the other costs of running a business?? Just admit it - you are financially fcked and it is going to end in tears ....again.

After his display at SMS I cannot see Ridgewell being on Adkins's shopping list.
-
During this international break, I began to wonder if it is possible to get 2 more contrasting managers than Rednapp and Adkins ? Adkins talks about the team and uses phrases like "together as one." Rednapp used to refer to the team as "they" - never "we." Adkins is incredibly positive about the "great football club" and its fans. Rednapp never seemed to have a good word to say about us. Rednapp courts the press and is ever ready to come up with a quote and be interviewed. Adkins just has the same dozen or so phrases that he trots out each week and appeared rather uncomfortable in front of Mark Clemet and the BBC cameras last week. Perhaps the biggest difference though is that Rednapp took us out of the Premiership and was a rubbish manager for us - Adkins will (fingers crossed) take us back into the Premiership and be our king!

A point which has not been raised so far in this debate is the attitude of the Leibhers to capital investment. It has been remarked before on this board that the Leibhers like to invest in tangible assets rather than in short term assets. I am not an expert in how they built their business but it is pertinent that one of the first decisions that they made at Saints was to invest in better training facilities at Staplewood - despite the Lowe regime having constantly told us how wonderful Staplewood was. Putting the money up for a gradual stadium expabnsion may well tie in with their business ethos. It is Cortese who keeps on mentioning a larger stadium. See his interview in the Sun 10 days ago. I am sure that if a larger ground had been completely ruled out by the Leibhers he would never be raising it. My view, for what it is worth, is that a gradual stadium expansion will start within a season or two of us getting into the Premiership - a bit like Wolves have done (cue abuse about Wolves's relevance to us :-) ). I don't know which stand will be expanded first but I bet that a gradual expansion would see the stadium being filled!!
-
Its easy. Just read the Bible and the story of 5 loaves and 2 fishes (or was it 5 fishes and 2 loaves?). A little divine intervention can go a long way.
-
Which post was that? I would be quite interested to know. I cannot remember a post mentioning these figures. We know that you aren't very good with numbers so I would be interested to see your source.
-
You cannot expect them to get figures to add up. They aren't very good with numbers in Portsmouth. Must be something to do with their webbed fingers - I mean even old matey Corp Ho reckons that Pompey's attendances are increasing: 16,496 - first match v Brighton 13,438 v Reading 14,354 v Cardiff 14,935 v Blackpool 12,102 v Peterborough If you have had a Portsmouth education that's a steady increase!!
-
You are priceless aren't you. Do you really exist or are you just a made up comedy figure??? Why on earth did you include transfer fees in that sentence if you now acknowledge that the transfer fee that we received for AOC was double what we had spent in the last 2 years?? If transfer fees have not been overspent, why include them in that sentence? You quote the attendances of 3 matches you have played this season ... but have conveniently forgotten the first home match of the season when you had an attendance of 16,496. Rather than Pompey's attendances increasing, it looks as if your attendances peaked at the start of the season and have been falling away ever since. Like you (according to your wife / sister) Pompey's attendances have peaked too quickly!!
-
You are stupid because you say that we are running at a loss on transfer fees when we have just pocketed £12 million from Arsenal for Oxlade Chamberlain which is roughly double what we have paid out in total over the last 2 years. You are stupid because you say that your gates are increasing when on Saturday you had 14,000 at fratton Park and on tuesday you had 12,000. Do you understand now ?? Or are you just stupid ??
-
You Pompey boys are not very good with numbers and cash are you ?? I would like to know how transfer fees mean that we are running at a loss after just picking up £12 million (plus addons) for Alex. Corp - you really are priceless. Are you really this stupid or are you pretending?
-
12,102... Pathetic You really are priceless aren't you. If you ever tried to p*** yourself laughing you would end up drowning!!
