Thats right. Unfortunately they are not still around :-(

If there is one thing better than watching the car crash called PFC it is watching the car crash knowing that you are going to make money on it. I just hope they stay bottom all season .... I have had a serious wager (well serious to a man who does not bet big) that they will be bottom at Xmas. I got 10/1 on that back in the summer. I was banking on them getting a 9 point deduction for going into admin but I am still feeling confident as I reckon that their fixture list between now and Xmas will scupper any hope they have of a revival. I then have 14/1 on them being bottom at the end of the season. I think that unlike our esteemed ex leader Rupert they will pull the plug so that they get the 9 point administration deduction whilst still in the Premiership rather than carry it into the championship for next season. I also have them at 4/1 to get relegated. That must be a certainty . Do you think the bookies will pay out on it already??

So despite saying that he wouldn't buy it, Numpty has read MLT's book!!
-
I reckon that watching a few episodes of Fawlty Towers before we turn up at 19C's house will prepare us well for dealing with our host.
-
Can I come for dinner as well please??? We could make it a party round 19C's house!!

A big difference between the early 80's & now was that football was not as trendy or respectable as it is today. My future father in law was disgusted when he found out that I was a football supporter. To him, football was watched by violent yobs who were constantly being arrested. The fact that I supported my team away from home just made me even worse in his eyes. To us Saints fans this was the golden age. To the football world at large this was the lowest point in the national game. Attendances generally were low (from memory attendances of 10 - 12.000 were commonplace for top flight games at places like Luton & Notts County) & with events lke Heysel and Bradford just around the corner, it is only in Southampton that the early 80's are looked on with affection.

I would quite happily take that dullness!!

I bet he practised hard and if he had been any good he would have been out there at half time in his kit!!

With over 120 posts on this thread in less than 24 hours maybe you should consider what people want to write about before you make your next foray into the realms of slagging off the members of this forum ???

Who is on the bench?? -
Oh FFS calm down , calm down. What is it with some people?? Haven't you heard of irony??? Is it necessary to put smiley faces on a thread to show people that you are not completely serious?? Like so many people on this board I am tired of the trolls - in particular 19 Canteen's continual denigration of the club's heroes. MLT last month, Lawrie today, it will probably be Ted Bates next week. I thought that this subject might be a suitable antidote to Nineteen Canteen's upteenth thread denigrating our heroes. I didn't appreciate how seriously it would be taken. So calm down, calm down. I always thought it was Americans who couldn't understand irony. Perhaps it is also some of the readers on this board. :-) :-) :-)

Yes but at least Leeds lived the dream & had the memories of good football. All we could enjoy was some rather dubious catering and the fastest growing radio station in er ... Southampton.
-
As it says on the tin. Can anyone think of a worse chairman than Lowe during his last year in office?? Is Lowe the Fred Godwin of football?? Lets play Nineteen Canteen at his own game.

I went there in our promotion season in 1978. It was a dreary day in November - wet & bleak and we drew 1-1. It is those kind of games that shape a season & I can remember being pleased with a point back then thinking along the same lines as the OP. From memory the Oldham fans that day were superb. I went into their supporters's club where I was made very welcome. Cheap, good beer and good cheap food. Since then I have always had a soft spot for Oldham.

He doesn'realise that we put up with so much poor stuff last season that this year's awful was last season's norm.

I had the misfortune to listen to some of "Call Collymore" the other day. You would have thought that if you presented a radio show you would be able to string a coherent, succinct sentence together ... but not Colly.

I don't know whether he is injured ... but so far he has had 37 minutes of League action for Wolves. I am sure that his bank balance looks healthy being a minor bits player for a Premiership team but what a waste of a good player. I would love to see him return to Saints.

What has happened to the thread that compared us with Pompey??? I cannot see it anywhere. Has it disappeared into thin air ???

Brilliant!!

Does Coretese keep tabs of fans views via this forum?

Lets hope that if he does look on here, Mr Cortese is not offended by people misspelling his name!! -
Excellent post. Lets hope that Cortese and Marcus appreciate that this thread is a better indication of Saints fans's feelings than those threads moaning about Pardew.

PMSL Whoever wrote this did not have English as their first language. Clearly they did not understand that you can use full stops in the middle of paragraphs and that you do not have to wait until the very end to use one. Maybe they reckon that nobody will understand it if they write garbage. What on earth does " The extent to which the gains that have been realised from player sales were retained by the club's previous banking partner during a protracted takeover period creates a responsibility for the new ownership, one which we are committed to help resolve" actually mean??? It is very rare to see such jibberish on any website created by adults. Clearly the one bloke in Portsmouth who achieved a GCSE in English wasn't around this afternoon to proof read this rubbish!!

I went back and read this post again. There is a lot of good stuff in here , excellently written with which I agree - especially the bit about people expecting to win all the time. I think that the demand for continual success is at the root of many of football's ills. HOWEVER In a non agressive fashion, I would like to ask this poster how he can possibly square up his concern about Saints fans's lack of reverence with his continual sniping at MLT and Lawrie Mac. Reverence is hardly what he has shown to 2 of our all time greats in his postings over the last few weeks .... so why criticise Saints fans now for lack of reverence???
-
Do not have the time to read the first 5 pages but St Will and Nineteen Canteen both make excellent posts which sum up the night and our performance - especially the point about the muppet who scheduled roadworks on a match night!! Lets learn from tonight, eradicate the mistakes and get 3 points on Saturday.
