Sunderland 1-1 SAINTS // Post-Match Reaction
SaintRobbie replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
One point has never felt so good! Jason Puncheon can poo at my house anytime! -
That's it! We have done it.MP raised our game when it mattered and the players responded. Should've been a win today, but for efficient goalkeeping by Sunderland. We are above Fulham too! A good final match could take us to mid table and will raise the roof at St Mary's. We are staying up... And after watching Wigan yesterday, Sunderland have to be worried. Di Canio deserves to relegate. We will not lose at home by 13 odd goals. We are safe. WELL DONE SAINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I agree. One man does not make a team. But we want our money back for him. Personally, i'd love him to stay and bring in equally talented players to build the team rather than trade one talented player for another one. We want to build not just have one star.

Head: Sunderland win 1-0. Heart: Saints win 0-7. Likely Result: Draw.

I'm a little more confident we'll be OK after the Spurs defeat - ironically. MP managed to raised our players and our game, which was concerning me. If we put in two more performances like that we'll pick up at least a point and safety IMHO. But we can't relax yet. If we go down, it will be down to the manager taking his eye off the ball too early - Swansea and West Brom games were toothless performances. If we do go down - we wont want MP as manager in the CCC. Two VERY important games coming up. Lets hope MP can raise their game again... and again.
-
I was pretty convinced we were going to be slaughtered on Saturday until this evening. Spurs have just played a marathon game in Milan. IF MP can re-inspire and motivate our out of sorts team to play as we know they can - at pace, accurate snappy passing - closing down and with Lambert in command on the pitch as captain, we might MIGHT get a result after all.
-
SOS S ave O ur S tripes I'd prefer stripes, anything else just aint-saintly.
-
Thats a fair observation - can you put on here a link to the 100-1 shot Bookies though? Thanks! (Its worth a consolation prize bet!)
-
Absolutely right. Good point. I am not convinced Wigan are for the drop either. Not yet anyway.
-
..We'll do it! MP will get a grip.
-
Correct - a total of 12 points up for grabs not 9. Realistically I can see Wigan taking 6 points, possibly 7. But, with Saints unlikely to gain anything (based on the last 2 performances) it would mean we'd survive only on goal difference. God I hope MP can life our team. Morale looks well shaky.
-
WE ARE NOT SAFE. But the odds are stacked in our favour...just... and are not getting any better. With Aston Villa slaughtering Sunderland this evening and finishing strongly and 9 points still up for grabs (12 for Wigan) we are not in a good place. I predict we'll fall two places on Saturday looking at the fixtures and form. I cannot see us picking up a win at Spurs, a win at Sunderland and a result against Stoke on the last day looks iffy. So where has it started to go wrong???? The reason lies with managerial mistakes: Firstly, MP has allowed two lacklustre performances from his players - an over confidence has crept in a little too early. Secondly, Saints somehow managed to let it out of the bag that the current squad was going to be decimated - looking to clear out 15 players in the summer. It might be true but frankly a lesson to MP and NC in how not to manage the morale of a football team. Thirdly, Ramirez has clearly had some sort of falling out with MP. We've lost a player off form and frustrated for the rest of the campaign. Fourthly, he's put Lallana back in as Captain when Lambert is our talisman and is hungrier when he wears that armband. The only player I saw with courage on Saturday was Lambert - who was reprimanding the midfield for lack of service. Sorry but if I was MP, I'd take the armband off Lallana after Saturday. So, a combination of poor managerial decisions are the reason for our last two - frankly unsaintly - performances that have put us under pressure. I wonder about MP. His record is frankly shakey once he has achieved his requirements. I am watching him to see if our manager has the ability to make this team play the flowing fast football that we were doing before the player-leaving announcements. We should be OK - but we are now relying on others in the mix to mess up. A week ago we were out of the discussion for relegation - now and after Saturday against a Spurs team chasing Europe and determined to finish above their north London rivals - expect to see us in the mix for discussion every week. I HATE THE FACT THIS SUPER YOUNG SAINTS TEAM ARE CURRENTLY NOT IN CONTROL OF THEIR DESTINY AND WILL PROBABLY HAVE TO RELY ON OTHERS TO LOSE. We could - and probably should expect to finish 17th, but it could be worse. Time for the manager to show us he can raise his side after his mistakes. If he can't we certainly don't want MP in the Championship, if it's 17th, I'll be watching his leadership skills for complacency next season. I think I've spotted his weakness - PLEASE MP PROVE ME WRONG!!! DRAW AT SPURS - DRAW AT SUNDERLAND - WIN AGAINST STOKE! That's all I'm hoping for, but right now I expect three defeats. Sorry guys.
-
He does one thing well. All the time he does one thing well. Its the next thing that he does badly, far too often. Fox is our weakness. Left back needs reinforcing in the summer, Shaw's too young to play a whole season so we need Premier League coverage (Fox is a Championship player IMHO). That's if Shaw is still here.
-
Truly awful. Lallana has never been a Captain on the pitch for me. Lambert has more flair, fight and leadership when he wears the armband. Fox is fragile. We have done NOTHING to improve our defending against set pieces. Yet, its been a long known concern. We look lacklustre again - same as at Swansea. No fast link up play in midfield. No passion. There's a problem and its not with the players. MP is at fault here, lack of leadership. I dont know why - I dont know if he's content with being safe and allowing players to play more for themselves and to justify their places. Bottom line - this is not the team we saw when up against the relegation wall. Cant put my finger on it - but intuitively its MPs fault. I wonder if this is something to watch for. I wonder if this is why MP starts well but then fades? Latin American fight????? If I was NC I'd give MP a kick up the arse for the last performance and this one so far.... unless he can improve the second half performance to change things. We could be seeing an early indication of MPs weaknesses. SORT IT OUT!

Forecast is rain - does that me another game with Ramirez out of sorts? He doesnt seem to be at his best when the weather's bad!?

Swansea 0-0 SAINTS // Post-Match Reaction

Job done, although it was lacklustre. I sense MP wanted a point and took it. We're safe. BUT I want to finish above Fulham!!!! So frustrating, yet so satisfying! Ahhhhh.... football. -
I hope MPs game plan was to absorb the pressure then dominate. If it was its worked. We're weak on the left. I hope we make use of Shaw for Fox and start to attack in the second half. Clyne doing well on the right. Midfield looking a little lax and not closing down as strongly as usual - again could be a first half game plan though. I'd like to see Shaw and Ramirez come on mid way through the second half. We should win this.... Lawro predicted a Swans win.
-
Cant work out MPs tactics at the moment. Is he absorbing pressure and encouraging the odd shot from distance before running rampant in the 2nd half? Or have Saints yet to get going???? Obvious tactic by Swansea - attack Fox with Dyer on the right. Outplaying us - but we seem to be holding back. Gamble MP - a gamble.

The Dell Bar - is it worth joining next season?
SaintRobbie replied to SaintRobbie's topic in The Saints
What do you get for your money though? Have the tables and chairs been removed? What's it like at the moment? -
OK, I admit it. I have been away from the UK for a couple of years lately and although my family still get down to see the games I have been subject to Sky, ESPN and Cricfree streaming (thank goodness for the latter!!) But, friends, Saintonians and Hamphire countymen, I am returning home and will be reinstating myself as a Season Ticket holder for next season, with my family. We all used to be members of the Dell Bar. It was a great place to meet family and chill for a couple of pints whilst the crowds left, then catch the players leaving with the kids who loved having their shirts signed on our way out past the shop and players car park. My question to you all is "Is it worth buying a family membership of the Dell Bar next season?" I have read online (admittedly toward the start of the season) several complaints since Cortese has taken over - removal of chairs and tables, cost, no hot food anymore etc etc. Is this bastion of the fan base being taken for a ride? Is it worth the £100 odd for membership? Does it need to be re-addressed by the Club and made better? Is there still a committee or has Cortese killed it off? Does it reveal a rather negative aspect of the Club - erosion of fan viewpoints and service, despite our renewed positivity of late? I'm not really looking to create a stink - just want to know if its worth joining as it was last time I was home, or has the Club eroded it and should I head towards Bedford Place for a decent scoff and pint instead!?

SAINTS 1-1 West Ham // Post-Match Reaction
SaintRobbie replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
MATCH STATS (BBC) Possession : 58% Saints 42% West Ham Shots: 15 Saints 6 West Ham On target: 11 Saints 4 West Ham Corners: 7 Saints 4 West Ham Fouls: 9 Saints West Ham 18 Basically - despite having a virus or three we outplayed the cheating Londoners. We was robbed. West Ham will be the happier team with this result. -

Happy with that. I predicted 1-1 when I heard Shaw and Jay Rod were suffering. Good enough. Shame not to win but good enough.
