please not Wilde he appointed Hone, Hoos and Oldknow for gods sake who between then spent £7 million we didn't have very badly and probably put the last nails in the coffin of Southampton FC as we know it

Lies damn lies and statistics! You can make them say anything! Football has changed a lot since the 1999-2000 season - mostly due to money - the cost of going to games has gone up far beyond inflation, the top of the game has become a closed shop, there is little hope of promotion for teams outside the premiership and practically none if you don't have a parchute payment or a wealthy owner - its all about the money and we have none! but mostly there is no hope that it will get better for a club like Southampton now - City fans had hope then - and if they were where we are now they would probably be just like us its not just Saints people are falling out of love with but Football as a whole - I don't even watch England games anymore! having Lowe and Wilde at the helm doesn't help as both played large parts in getting us to where we are now - but that's just the icing on the cake Wilde's false messiah, Lowes cheapskating, Lowes managerial appointments (Burley, Redknapp, Wigley, Gray, Poortvlie), Lowes arrogance (Woodward and Clifford) for example have to say likening Southamption FC and Saints fans to Southampton and the WWII bombing is pretty tasteless even for you - I have family members who were evacuated from Southampton and lived and had others who stayed and died

£24 is simply too much to pay to watch Championship football £15 for adults, £10 for students, OAPS and teenagers, £5 for kids is more like it £40 for a family of two adults and two kids would fill-up the ground a bit more and bring in more money on food and drink I bet closing the corners was the lazy option and lazy marketing by Saints - lowering the ticket prices and trying to fill the stadium was the right thing to do - maximising match day revenues from food and drink amongst other things
-
I'd have kept all three of them! Dexter is a real centre forward and a natural goal poacher, brave and a hard worker. Best is a good forward with real pace and power, able to play down either wing and run at the opposition from deep McGoldrick is a second striker, able to play in the hole and probably the best with the ball at his feet out of the three right now a forward line of Dexter upfront, with McGoldrick in the whole, Lallana on the right and Best on the left would do me they'd certainly score a few goals!
-
I think that will be the team tomorrow - unless Killer is unfit. In that case I think Wotton will play at the back with Perry and Skacel at left back with Surman in the middle. McGoldrick's best position is in the whole but Lallana is by far the best player in that position - ideally you rotate the two of them and play BWP/Thomson/Dyer on the right and Holmes on the left! Have to say I'm not sure 4-2-1-2-1 is working for us in the Championship. I'd switch to a more defensive 4-3-3 with one holding midefielder and two box-to-box midfielders (providing some much need cover for our fullbacks) with a centre forward and two inside forwards. A bit more like Terry Venables old 4-3-2-1 Christmas tree formation really I guess Whatever formation we do play we need two full backs in the team as neither Lloyd James or Surman are really defenders
-
I think it said Thomas was injured in one of the articles on the OS earlier today or yesterday!

as its our national game isn't is about time the government stepped in and saved it from itself - or in reality the SKY TV money - clubs owned by the supporters as industrial friendly provident societies - or by British Citizens only - ban on clubs running on debt - no foreign owners - a fairer sharing of the TV money throughout the premier and football leagues - a wage cap on player salaries by % of clubs turnover - a player wage cap of £50,000 a week or less - qoutas for homegrown players - and limits on foreign players - EU or otherwise - a British & Irish League Cup - return of the home internationals (perhaps as U23s) fat chance that will ever happen (just like our national infrastructure the UK government will sit their and repeat the mantra of the free market as the bills get ever higher for us) football is truly the game that is eating itself - I've already lost all affinity for the England team with its overpaid out of touch premiership stars and their hollywood lifestyle and attitude who'd have thought that at Italia 90, Euro 96 or France 98???? how long is it before that is true of most people outside of the top tier clubs? - and then peoples feelings to the premier league or English football as an entity in itself
-
please don't encourage them they'll only make up yet another consortium and anyone really in the know about any such thing wouldn't say anything anyway
-
McGoldrick did indeed play well today - but he is a second striker and we need a centre forward on the pitch at the same time With Surman, Gillett, Schneiderlin and James feeding the ball to Holmes, McGoldrick and Lallana with Pekhart feeding off them in return
-
Have to agree with you there Smalls its all about momentum - and playing Cork and Pekhart would have kept that going - that feeling that the team was coming together and getting stronger and by all accounts Pekhart would give us the pace, power and goal instinct we are lacking upfront at the moment - in the same way Cork would have given us the pace we need at the back - or at least a young pair of legs!
-
Pekhart is the answer as centre forward leading the line with McGoldrick in the whole as the second striker with a licence to roam then Lallana and Surman as the two wide midfielders putting in the crosses and through balls and with licence to get into the box to make the third man
-
you have to like Poortvliet's honesty and love the fact he actually sees the saem problems as we do very different from Burley, Redknapp et al although I don't understand why he didn't play Cork or Perhart (and bought Pulis) lets hope he learns from his mistakes - I am confident he will though and one more thing - forget about Stern John - its Pekrhart that's the future (I hope)
-
We definately have to bring in Cork and Pekhart and probably play Thomas instead of Killer Bialkowski Cork Thomas Perry ? Gillett Schneiderlin Lallana McGoldrick Surman Pekhart We desperately need a left back and I really don't understand why we brought in Pulis when the last thing we need is another midfielder - full backs to free up James and Surman to play in midfield would have made more sense
-
Firstly Blackpool gave us a right old 1-0 thrashing - 4 times they got the ball across our goal line and we didn't do it even once saying that both McGoldrick and Lallana should have scored today - and on top of that I counted 4 occassions when a Saints players should have taken a shot but passed instead. Lallana should have scored in the first half - but he was far too casual with the goal at his mercy Gillett had a bad game today - but lets not forget he was our best player against Brum City on Tuesday Killer had a terrible game - both on the floor and in the air - there's no way he's is going to be our defensive kingpin this season Where were Cork and Pekhart? They would have made all the difference today - some pace at the back and a centre forward leading the line Also have to say Thomas and Cork probably would have made a better centre back pairing than Killer and Perry today and when and where are we going two get a right back and a left back to allow Surman and James to play in midfield where they belong?!?! I think Saints thought they'd walk this game and paid the price for that attitude I hope Jamie White's confidence hasn't been destroyed by giving away the penalty and getting substituted Jan made his first big mistakes today - in the team selection and in his substitutions
-
Schneiderlin was playing in the whole when his best position is as the deep sitting playmaker or defensive midfieder - not his best game and no surprise he was substituted - still good on the ball though and can tackle Jack Cork was great and can play the ball out from the back Thomas can't - and once the other players had told him to stop trying to pass the long ball - leave it to the other players - and just keep it short and sweet his whole game got better. His first three passes - all long - gave the ball away! After that he won everything in the air and almost every tackle - his best game for a long time Lallana and Gillett were superb Lloyd James played much better at right back - still a midfielder though really same with Surman - who had a bad game but improved massively once he moved into the middle - he was too eager to get forward and create when palying at left back McGoldrick - a great second striker with a great football brain Wotton had a great game - led the team - tackled well - and he can pass as well! Joesph Mills had a great cameo as an attacking left back - definately one for the future the only thing we were missing was a centre forward to make the darting runs and get on the end of all the chances the other create - step forward Pekhart Outplayed and then outfought Brum City - can't ask for more than that - and it wasn't even our first team in personnel or position!
-
lets hope they keep Leon Crouch, Mary Corbett and Michael Wilde away from the boardroom whoever they are false promises, leaks, infighting, briefings against each other, not so private phonecalls, saying one thing doing another - we can do without all that! personally I'd leave Lowe as Chairman for now, Cowan as MD and give Poortvliet the financial backing to bring in some great young players to add to the team we've got - not detract from it with big 'I Am' overpaid stars! as I've said before for the first time in a long time we have a clear strategy on and off the pitch
-
Lets all laugh at Derby!!!! The first league victory this eason is all the sweeter for being over Derby - a team we outplayed in 3 games out of 4 two seasons ago and beat on away goals in the play-offs! So the win over them was well overdue! Have the Derby fans stormed on to the pitch yet!?! Chavtastic they were! Lets wish them lots of luck in maintaing their beaten record all season - and doing the double relegation!

Its official: http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=10475 The son of Alan Cork - signed on loan until January!
-
if he is going to make it at Arsenal a season playing for Saints in the CCC would do him more good in the long run than a season at Rennes in France
-
supposedly Sheff Weds and Celtic are interested in taking him on loan as well - so he will probably end up at one of those two as they've probably got more cash then us also the story seems to have disappeared from the Daily Mail website as well now
-
forget to say because they have just signed Silvestre!
-
Arsenal are thinking about sending Johan Djourou out on loan to Rennes - a 21 year old central defender - plays for Switzerland maybe we should take a look at him
-
In the Daily Mail tomorrow it says we are getting defender Jack Cork on loan from Chelsea: "Chelsea are also on the verge of signing attacking midfielder Fabio Paim on a season-long loan from Sporting Lisbon and have loaned out former England Under 18 captain Jack Cork to Southampton until January 1." Wikipedia says: Jack Cork (born June 25, 1989) is a footballer currently contracted to Chelsea who spent the 2007/08 season on loan at S****horpe United. During the 2006-07 season he twice went on loan to Bournemouth. Cork is a versatile defender who can play anywhere across the back and can also play in the holding midfield role. He has also represented England at youth level, recently making his Under 19 debut against the Czech Republic[1], and has captained the Chelsea youth team. He has been at the club since the age of nine.[1] Lets see if its true!
-
let hope he doesn't join us - the last thing we needed was another midfielder I'd rather we got a right back or left back and let Lloyd James and Andrew Surman play in their proper positions - midfield And at 24 (?) and still unproven it doesn't suggested he's any goog plus he's Tony Pulis' son and a Skate to boot! he will become the boo boy for all these reasons
-
could mean BWP and/or John as off as well if we are talking about a new striker - although saying that we need one anyway with pace and power to make the darting runs down the channels and feed-off the through balls from Lallana I expect it will be a loan from a Premier team - Jay Simpson from Arsenal for example - or a cheap buy from lower league Holland As for a defender could this be the loan return of Baird from Fulham!? Personally I would have got rid of BWP, Dyer, John and Rasiak and kept Saga but there you go - that's football!
