  1. it was 4-0! Spurs didn't even get a sniff that day, it was one of the most complete footballing performances we have produced. ahh bring back those heady days...
  2. i still think that 80k is hyped up slightly, at a guess that wage is a total of appearance bonuses/win bonuses/goal bonuses/performance bonuses etc (and i doubt he's taken many of those home...) his basic wage may only (i say only...) be about 40-50k. When we had Rasiak and Skacel, their weekly wage could sometimes have topped 20-25k (based on the bonuses)
  3. His lack of pace will always hinder him and stop him from becoming a top top player, but he showed enough last night that he can hold his own. It was interesting to see that Mick played him in an advanced midfield role, coming in from the left to join up with the strikers - we really wasted him at LB, and the fact that Mick has never played him there shows what clowns were running this club. he'll prob be back here one day, he was a good lad - a proper supporter and he played with his heart (sometimes last season that was his problem). It was nice to have a player like that in the team though.
  4. I think our problems sometimes come from Lallana cutting inside, it would be nice to have an out and out wide man who gets to the byline and whips the ball in - at this level, that will win you lots of games. It would also improve the balance of the side. I agree that holmes is that sort of player...but i think we can forget him ever getting a run under pardew, he clearly doesn't rate him and tbh alot of our confidence in him comes from 6 or 7 starts early last season - that was it. He was then pretty much injured for the rest of the season.
  5. Ward is indeed an ex-pardew player, he was with him at West Ham (although he was a player coming through the ranks back then) IMO he is a top quality championship CB (as he's shown at Plymouth and at Cov) - Cov signed him for £1m and he became their captain straight away, so if we do manage to get him for L1 it will be a massive coup.
  6. IMO all Thomson lacked when playing for us was confidence, he always seemed scared to take a player on - if he can gain that confidence from this loan deal, the we'll have a very useful player back with us next year IMO.
  7. see, this is where i think our problem is. He very rarely gets into positions to cross from open play, because we are lopsided. we so need a left winger.
  8. hasn't got any assists, which is surprising. he's the table - http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/Assists/0,,10794~200910280~25,00.html
  9. Probably bale, he kind of played like a left winger for us most of the time.
  10. 7 assists so far lambert has 11!
  11. Hope he does well...will watch with interest.
  12. Thats one of my criticisms well, he crosses from far too deep - which is why (as i said on another thread) we need an out and out winger, who will take on players and cross from the byline, must be a priority for january. It would change the outlook of this team.
  13. I guess it's because they want him to play games, so they may send him out on loan to another club - seems a waste really loaning out one of your promising players, only to have them sitting in the other teams reserves.
  14. i think we lack natural out-and-out width, especially on the left and at times play from our midfield is either lopsided or very central and crowded. Our midfield needs to learn how to spread the play more often - too often at the moment we are just launching it from midfield into blind alleys, or straight down a strikers throat in a central position. Games are often won by getting in behind a full back and crossing the ball. We won lots and lots of games when we had Antionio doing that...but he's kind of been sussed out in many ways, so we look less effective. I'd love us to sign a real pacey out and out winger in January...
  15. We will be eventually (maybe even as soon as the end of January), and that's what is exciting - we'll only carry on improving now.
  16. As people have said, this season was always a ''rebuilding'' season on and off the pitch, and any success achieved would be a welcome bonus - that is still the case in my book. Some people need to realise that when Pardew first came here he didn't have a decent squad to work with, what he had was a low confidence and low quality bunch of relegated youngsters, with 2 of the better young players being removed from the side. We also lost experienced players such as Skacel, Euell and Saeijs - how people expected us to surge at the start of the season is beyond me, it was always going to be tricky. However, Pardew has shown common sense in all of the signings he's made (both on and off the pitch), they've all improved us in some way or another and that's why im feeling so confident for January. This is another opportunity for us to carry on the rebuilding, ready to realistically mount a consistent charge next year. Let's just enjoy the ride this year, we will probably just come up short, but I know I'll sleep well in the thought that this club is at last moving in the right direction.
  17. There will be 6 new signings at least, according to one of the more ''itk'' posters on the site.
  18. those 2 will be first out the door when the window opens IMO.
  19. AP confirmed that Mellis has been recalled by Chelsea.
  20. Pardew - ''those 2 goals have cost us today, it's been a problem for us all season, conceding bad goals. We will try to lock that down once and for all in January"
  21. Trotman will go back, he's looked increasingly dodgy in the last few months anyway. Need someone like Elliott ward to replace him. I'd keep antonio for the season based on the fact that he can offer us something off the bench, but he shouldn't be starting.
  22. We have some quality, but not as much as alot of us have made out. - we're still 3 or 4 players short to be a really consistent (win every week) kind of team.
  23. ignore him, he's looking for reactions with most of his posts.
  24. New CB in the mold of Elliott Ward please, a bit of pace off of lambo wouldn't go a miss either.
