  1. Agree I'd go with that. We've been poor in last 15 mins of games where we've had limited options on the bench and players knackered from pressing. Ings and Redmond to come on helps us with that. Sheffield United are still a good defensive outfit, just without the Great goalkeeper they had last season, therefore they are losing games by single goals rather than winning them by single goals. Fine margins. Not a team to be taken lightly, they'll be physical , important we get the first goal. Anyone expecting an easy win for us is wrong in my opinion.
  2. He formed some Great partnerships in his time here, when you look at centre backs we had like Monkou, Dean Richards, Michael Svenson. I remember his testimonial being a strange occasion against Celtic, don't think he really made any money from that. As mentioned he was well known for propping up the bar in venues and down the casino, amazing he lasted as a pro sportsman for so long, needed to get help earlier.
  3. Yes I did think that myself, St Mary's is mute South of the half way line so in some ways would have made sense to just limit tickets to fans that usually frequent the silent areas anyway, for those usually in Northam / Itchen North / Kingsland North this will probably feel strange. I genuinely cannot remember the last time I sat down at a game home or away for years. For those who are going hopefully you are able to find some enjoyment in the whole experience and allow yourselves a cheer if we score. You're already socially distanced wearing a muzzle so a quick rendition of OWTS might escape punishment. Up the Saints.
  4. Club are fucking loving it , bet there's a safety committee sat in their war room mapping out the battle plan on how they will control the 2000 virus spreaders, sorry I mean fans, at the ground on Sunday. This bit really gets you in the mood for the game; "We would like to remind you that evidence suggests that singing and shouting can increase coronavirus transmission, so in consideration of those around you please refrain from doing so." ps don't forget to tell us about your health and bring your ID. was probably less hassle going to a game in East Germany in the 70s.
  5. It seems that Saints have emailed those who have been successful, I think it would be right for them to also email those who aren't so they know for sure as there does seem confusion where one person I know didn't receive any communication but their ticket is notified to someone else in their 'bubble' who received both. Never easy dealing with our ticket office at the best of times. They are also adding layers of tasks to be completed with this advanced health form, seems unnecessary to me, plus ID required but doesn't say what forms of ID are accepted. Does anyone know what can be done in cases for those who share a season ticket? If successful, what contact shall I have and what will I need on the matchday? An email shall be sent to confirm next steps and information in relation to the match. 48 hours before the game, a mandatory Covid Questionnaire shall be sent. This must be completed by ALL attending supporters between 12-48 hours before the match. Failure to complete shall mean your ticket is not active. ID shall be required from all over 18s on a matchday and must match the name on the ticket. Tickets are non transferable. Failure to produce ID matching the name on the ticket shall mean no entry.
  6. Expecting a tough game, Sheffield United have one point in eleven matches but the games I've seen them in they have looked decent and were unlucky to lose (v Leicester and Man City) I think if we do win it will be a tight 1-0 or 2-1. Chris Wilder, Billy Sharp and David McGoaldrought ex Saints coming back should get a decent reception from the home fans. Ralph needs to look at the players and think how they'll cope with three games in seven days, we play Arsenal away on Wednesday (haven't won there in the league since 87) followed by Man City at home sat, no chance our pressing style will last without some fresh legs. Hope the 2000 there manage to provide a bit of atmosphere, no moaning or shouts of Get it forward when we're knocking it about.
  7. Vestergaard is looking more and more like VVD in his prime in each game, fantastic improvement in performances he is now one of our most important players and provides a spine to the team. Contributing important goals. Our away record continues to be superb under Ralph. Overall was not a great game , but got the points, tough run coming up so good to have points on the board.
  8. If I wanted to watch a political protest I'd hang around outside the Guildhall on a Saturday afternoon, but instead I go to watch football in a football stadium. Anyway good to hear Millwall won't be taking the knee tonight.
  9. If it hadn't been for the attacks on this nations heritage there would have been no counter protest, agree or disagree? How did it make you feel seeing the attempt to set fire to the flag on the cenotaph? As for the lad caught short, you write as if he deliberately targeted a memorial, very clearly he had no idea if was even there. Compared to pouring paint over Churchill, clear premeditated deliberate act. What this thread does clearly illustrate is how divisive this is, instead of us all United supporting our club it's a topic that will clearly lead to disagreements and arguments.
  10. The BLM group were out to deface national monuments that hold particularly strong meaning to many of us, the other group only turned out after weeks of the police failing to stop BLM, if there hasn't been such provocative attacks on this nations heritage there would have been no counter protest, simple as that. A military veteran I know attended that day enraged by the acts of vandalism he'd seen in the previous weeks BLM shenanigans.
  11. What you also need to remember is when the BLM mob were running around defacing every flag and statue they could get to whilst the police stood back and took a knee it was football fans (including a fair number of Millwall) who turned out in London to put a stop to it. Don't be surprised a few months later they react like this. For me, over the years football provides great escapism from all this nonsense, time away from politics, have a few beers, turn up at the ground, lose your voice supporting your team (No matter what colour your players are) My hope is this knee nonsense is abandoned otherwise we'll see more and more fans booing, I can tell sky and the premier league are determined to keep pushing it so we're destined to come into conflict on the matter.
  12. Still carrying on last seasons poor results and look set for relegation, none of these lads are really pressing to be a first team regular currently. salisu should get a few games at this level when ready to help him settle in, a few of them could then get a chance against Shrewsbury in the FA cup.
  13. We should know by Tuesday , possibly earlier. What happens next? Those supporters that are successful in the ballot will have their seats allocated and will receive an email with information about their tickets by Tuesday 8th December.
  14. I wouldn't get too worked up about this, ultimately going back in the ground is going to be pretty shit anyway, Premier league have agreed tonight that masks must be worn even though you're out in the fresh air, chanting discouraged, no doubt Saints will have trained up their stewards to act like Nazi covid Marshalls tracking your every move, the safety officer will be loving having the chance to have some much control. On top of that we'll probably lose anyway once fans are back as we mate the players nervous
  15. I think it's fair, relatively small number of tickets set aside for those fans who have gone above and beyond following the Saints, I don't qualify but personally know a few who are in both categories, the lengths some of them go to is unbelievable. Not many of them live in Southampton so every game involves a journey. It's only 238 , tiny number, of those the 62 every game is fair. - 62 fans that have held their Season Ticket for over six years and attended every match home and away last season- 176 fans that have held their Season Ticket for over four years, attending at least 95% of home games and 66% of away games last season
  16. According to Chris Witty it seems footballers are prone to a very rare mutated strain now known as Shane Long Covid, gradual decline in performances is a symptom so something to watch out for here with Stuart Armstrong.
  17. Good draw, home game against a team near the bottom of the 3rd division, gives us a chance. I'd rather have had Marine though. I'd say play our B team, but they are probably about 4th tier level going by some of their performances this season so will need a mix. Busy Christmas period, plus a full midweek round of Premier league fixtures midweek after 3rd round weekend i cant see many clubs playing a first XI. (We have Leeds away few days later) I remember the 93 cup defeat away at Gay Meadow, a highlight of the Branfoot era.
  18. Two stats stand out - number of points dropped from winning positions - % of our goals against conceded in the second half/ late in games It would appear from that we are not as fit as many like to think, plus our concentration levels are poor in the last few minutes of games, perhaps that comes from lack of experience but we have players McCarthy, Bertrand, Romeu who should be able to lead. It is some consolation that we weren't in the ground for that one, horrible watching the usual United comeback, their fans would have been unbearable
  19. Brighton pressed Liverpool very well yesterday, they'll look at the way we squandered the ball time and time again today and fancy their chances at getting in our faces. The AMEX has been a good ground for us over the last few years so hopefully we can continue. Ings on the bench I reckon, we're missing him and Redmond but loads of games in December so no point rushing them back.
  20. We just don't beat United at home any more, that 3rd goal was so predictable, we looked knackered most of the game, sloppy passing, late challenges, Djenepo out of depth at times , need to get Ings and Redmond back. How many times have we lost to a United from a winning position ffs
  21. They should open St Mary's to fans for the FA youth cup game with Coventry due to be December 5th. Run it as a trial event , gives some fans a chance to go to a game and a bit of support for the nippers.
  22. United to win 3-1 my prediction. They've won 7 consecutive premier league away games, we've not beaten them at home for 17 years. It shouldn't matter but these sort of patterns often hold for whatever reason. Ings and Redmond missing for us removes some of our attacking threat. They'll hit us on the break. One of those things.
  23. If it's the Saints Bar season tickets they are sat in the corporate area so separated from normal fans anyway plus not many of them so makes sense. More profitable tickets for the club so can see why they wouldn't want to refund those compared to someone with a £399 Itchen South season ticket.
  24. There seems to be a select panel that the club like to consult on these matters but don't think there's been much recently. Once the regional tiers are announced tomorrow Saints can start planning for 4000 (tier 1) 2000 (tier 2) or 0 (tier 3) Back in September the club asked us to opt in or out for the October and November games. That should be irrelevant now as many may have changed their minds so expect we'll be asked to do it again. First game back could be Sheff Utd, bit complicated that quite a few fans have already been refunded for that so not sure how that will work.
  25. Did I hear right, Man Utd haven't lost away in the league since January? They're form is incredible, not sure how but we need to play them as if it's old Trafford. Another game without Ings , I'd definitely take a point.
