I had Puel totally wrong after the first 2 games. Looks like he could be a great manager. Nice to see Koeman struggling at Everton.

A talented as he is, I thought Vokes gave him a bit of a hard time last week, and I didn't think he was up to his usual standard v Inter.

I don't think many teams play their full strength sides in Europe, choosing to keep players fresh for their league games. The players who have come in will benefit massively from the experience.

Watched the second half. Thought we played really well and on another day would have scored a couple. Very impressed with Romeu, sensational. My ill-founded doubts about Puel are totally gone. Think Les has pulled another rabbit out of the hat.

Don't know what the big deal is. The story won't reflect on Saints. If he's had his fingers in the till he'll be finished and we'll get someone else in. If not, he'll carry on with his job.

I thought it would be reasonable to make some sort of judgement of Puel at the end of September. I feared the worst after 2 lacklustre performances against Watford and Sunderland, but things are definitely looking better now. To me, we look to be playing more 4-3-3 than the dreaded diamond. Fair play to him.

I wonder if manager's would last longer in their jobs if they didn't have Director of Football's over their shoulders, interfering with transfers. Dont get me wrong, this is not a dig at Les Reed. Hopefully Puel will be here for a good while.

You're probably right. A couple of wins will definitely lift the mood. Mind you, a couple of defeats and questions will be asked about the manager and the direction we're going in. Pretty knife edge if you ask me. We were poor against Watford and Sunderland, but a Defoe up front and we would probably have won both games and got something against Arsenal. Long and Austin need to find their shooting boots.

I agree that our first choice centre backs are a good pair. I don't think we have adequate strength in depth though, especially with the upcoming schedule of games on a Thursday night followed by games on Sunday. If you regard Jay Rod and Redmond as centre forwards, you can make a case for us being well-equipped. To be fair, with Boufal to come into the side when fit we probably aren't that badly off up front. My general point is more that we could have afforded to strengthen the squad further in the Summer but chose not to.

Are we short of a centre-back and a forward? Could we afford them? For me, a big yes on both.

To be fair, with over £100m TV revenue, and more revenue generated from the sales of Pelle, Wanyama and Mane, we could have 'thrown money at it'. A bit more anyway.

Dont get me wrong, I'm happy enough with the present owner. But, we seem to be the only team in the Premier that has to operate a transfer surplus every Summer window.
