  1. interesting conclusion: I'd welcome the manager as described above, but not sure that is consistent with the Man City style seen.
  2. I also wonder if Pellegrini is seen as a respectable 'stop gap' without the risks that others (Puel, FdB, etc) bring, and we are now seeking someone to hold us in the Europa League type position in the league for a couple of years, whilst seeking the manager to then elevate it into CL contention. Especially if some of the CL potential managers are not currently likely to be enticed.
  3. Does that mean he is unlikely to play the swashbuckling attacking game we want ?
  4. In belittling Pelligrini's achievements at Man City most people have overlooked the fact he's won the League Cup twice in three years. Window Cleaner, I believe you are a follower of football in France - whats your take on Puel ?
  5. Very surprised he didn't take that option. Despite the £ currently on offer from Everton a third season at Saints and there were likely to be better options next year, Arsenal for one.
  6. Found the comment about him on the last page of the earlier thread: You can't both be right. (And I've no idea who is).
  7. What evidence is there that he is 'forward thinking'? And if he did come here do you not think he might use this as a stepping stone as our last two have?. Pelligrini. Yes, I've had the same thought that he isn't a long term appointment, but as two seasons is the going rate now why might we expect anything more from him or another. Really ? On the previous thread it was commented that he played a defensive style.
  8. Not excited by any of the above. Pelligrini - nice bloke, but I just wonder if he'd inspire the squad. I just visualise him wondering around the training ground in a tracksuit, but his tartan check slippers really giving him away. Puel - have read some good things about him but note the critiscism of his style of play. Vitor - seems too much of a gamble and his track record appears a jorneyman and nothing to write home about. At least Garcia had been at some decent clubs. If forced to choose one of the three then Pelligrini would be the one, but I was hoping for a more exciting choice. Cetainly if Pelligrini is selected then it exposes a myth as to how well prepared we are in keeping tabs on up and coming managers who fit our profile.
  9. The views on Moyes & Bruce is nothing to do with being considered boring and unexciting because they're not continental coaches. More that they are pretty average at best. Giggs wouldn't have the "respect" of the dressing room . If you want a "formula" to avoid, selecting a manager on the strength of having played for a 'great' is one to steer clear of. Not many who played under Revie, or Clough at Forest have succeeded. For every Martin O'Neill theres a whole list of journeymen managers who never quite made it.
  10. Hope not.
  11. Why would he rule himself out ? Seems odd. Doesn't he want to manage Arsenal in two years time or somrthing?.
  12. Obviously Adam Blackmore follows Simon Peach on Twittter.

  14. Galtier sounds interesting, but on Googling him : this says he's looking for something new: http://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/galtier-ready-saint-etienne-exit but this article suggests his ultimate ambition is Liverpool: http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/618323/Jurgen-Klopp-Christophe-Galtier-Liverpool-Transfer-News-Gossip
  15. what was the suggested fee for AOC mooted in the press ? £12-15m from recollection. Now whether we'd stand a chance of persuading AOC to return is another matter, but of the two I'd prefer AOC for the price bracket.
  16. Should know by now that any deals should be completed ahead of a tournament if we do harbour any real interest in the player.
  17. A common feature though is that will all speak English to some degree. I don't suppose Paco/Silva/ Schmidt will speak Dutch /French as well as English if they do speak it at all.
  18. I know, feel the same way. But what if there are two bids on the table, one from spurs the other from Everton ?
  19. Just did a google translate of the headline: Southampton interested Bartosz cabbage. Jacek Zielinski: could handle.
  20. Inevitable question, and not one people on here are likely to know the answer to, but wonder if any of the characters featuring on here over the last few pages speak English. De Boer does I think, but as for the others (Paco, Vitor Perriera, Silva, Schmidt) its a bit of an unknown. No doubt Poch's old mate might be able to help out, although at the time it was said MP could communicate in English on the training ground reasonably well but not for interviews.
  21. We'll need spurs £10m to pay RK's garden leave...
  22. Because without bringing the EFC offer into the open Saints would have no knoweledge of it, let alone match it. I read it as his previous agent did not even relay the EFC approach ro RK thinking the Saints deal had been agreed in principle.
  23. A week ago I would have agreed, but not sure how this would now happen without a massive climb down by RK. Of course neither he nor Saints have said anything publicly. If you read the link above to the Sotonians post it reads that this has gone beyond making up between the parties. Whether that can be believed of course is open to discussion.

No far from it. When England get to a tournament it becomes a yawnfest as they routinely underperform after all the pre-match strutting and preening. IF they advance out of the group stage it can get interesting, although we inevitably live in fear of it going to penalties.
