Nothing will eclipse or come close to the Keegan signing. Lambert was a good signing at the time, but can’t really compare. Before Keegan, the signing of Peter Osgood seemed incredible and not one we’d thought we’d see. Saints spending over £200,000 was a major event.

Hughes was clearly past it when we signed him, it was predictable how it turned out. Far from excited about the signing. For me it was a signing that firstly, I hoped was just paper talk, then hoped we wouldn’t agree terms or he’d fail a medical. Couldn’t stand him from his time before joining us, a bit like Speedie. And always thought it was doomed to fail, big ego, big salary. Little in return. The memories I have of him are his typical niggling style needlessly getting booked on his debut, and a good goal from distance at home to Newcastle.

Agree on both points, the Ugo bloke offers a physical presence in MF that we’ve lacked. Wonder if he and Downes will start together rather than one or other, perhaps Downes more advanced. Am fearing the fee for Archer if permanent. Shouldn’t be taking another expensive risk on a feint hope that he’ll improve and one day will be worth more. Not quite sure where he fits in. Seems a shame that we have players who are able to get decent crosses in (Sugawara now) but sign another who probably won’t be able to make them count.

Okay, I was focusing on your comment that we wasted his talent.I think he did that for himself. not many managers would have been able to get into his head to motivate him. Perhaps, Lawrie in his day, might have put a proverbial arm round him to bring the best out of him. But not sure such a manager exists now. For what he did for us (what was it, one outstanding game, and one screamer of a goal) I don’t think we had a good return, and the money could have been better spent. But it’s all about opinions.

At 19 and 20 you’d hope these are young prospects who might make it to Saints. The two we’ve signed though sound fairly mediocre squad fillers at 23/4 and doubtful to make the grade in the EPL.

Don’t think you can lay that blame with the club. Bloke was a complete twat when he was with us and before ( remember the self promotion on video), and his performance in the SF. Absolute bellend. He may have matured more recently and Wolves have the benefit of that now. Perhaps there’s a case for better research on discipline/character before signing him. But can’t blame the club for him being a tool whilst here.
