Paul Went in the 1970's. Went was the skates centre half and highly rated. Lawrie wanted to beef up the defence in c Oct/Nov 1975 and a swap was proposed with Bobby Stokes (who was a squad player/sub at the time). Deal fell through , as Went rejected terms as I recall. Stokes remained with Saints to make history the next May.

Taïder Joins on 1 year Loan & Osvaldo to Inter - Official
Badger replied to itchen_dan's topic in The Saints
Although Jos does have some limitations in the Prem, he does seem to bring something to the squad in the dressing room harmony. On balance I think I'd take the risk with Jos over a couple of past it sulking South Americans that Inter are keen to palm off. -
Surprised he didn't fit a 'Hillsborough' or '96' into his address as this might have helped win them over.
-
It seemed a bit of an "and finally .." type feature for minor interest/amusement rather than any serious reporting of news or something different on the topic. Perhaps he has the same agent as Rupert ? Seems Rupert is back in demand for his "rent a quote" pieces on us. Hope he is enjoying the limelight again.

Yes, with Watson's coaching I think this bloke could be a good option.
-
I've not seen enough of Forster to make the judgement, but if we are spending £8/9m on him then he'll be first choice to start the season. But we have to go with Koeman /Dave Watson's judgement.

Don't know how anyone can see geeting rid of Osvaldo as anything but a positive move, irrespective of who/what comes the other way . -
Was there meant to be a board meeting today, with some changes rumoured ? Think this was an ITK post from someone on Sunday/Monday (possibly Guan).

Being generous, this remains to be seen. But its a fair bet that neither Shellotto in particular, amd probably Taider are likely to have featured very high on the original list, if at all. -
I did read that Brighton have also lost six players from that team this summer so I don't think we can read too much into this.

Agree, certainly not impressed by description of a 34 yr old Argie CB, or a winger who has failed to impress at Inter or whilst they have previously farmed him out. Taider looked as if he might offer something, although we are well served in the CM area (especially if - big if - Morgan & JC remain) -
No, he might be persuaded as ratio-decidendi suggests, but he'd always begrudge being here at all. We don't need any more sulkers in the dressing room.

Not to mention controlling our official site to wish nominated supporters a happy bithday. http://www.portsmouthfc.co.uk/news/article/happy-birthday-to-nathan-chubb-1794822.aspx So, anyway, happy bithday Nathan Chubb.

Yes, some nice words from Nigel. Motivation personified(even if sometimes a little cliche ridden).
-
I thought he had been linked with them earlier in the summer.
-
Christ, just seen the score. 4-1. Presumably, Forster not to blame for the goals ?
-
Surprised he's that old (24) and not really made a mark anywhere as yet. 14 appearances for Villa last season on loan from January (acc to Wikipedia). At least he might be motivated by the fact this could be his biggest opportunity yet to make an impact.
-
No best leave it on the transfer rumours thread, it may serve to warn us to modify expectations in future.
-
Rojo too ambitous, and out of reach perhaps, then there were the Dutch options suggested (Jetro Willan was it ?) so we end up with a player who failed to impress at Villa last season. Still perhaps he's only back up for Targett.

tell me you're joking ! -
what ?
-
Not sure, I have read differing views. During the WC though I read in a couple of places that the three defenders, two wing backs used by Holland was similar to - possibly even taken from- his tactics at Feyenoord, which is why so mqy of his players settled to it at the back.
-
That does not look a bad team at all, and I'd be pleased with that although would like to see us retain Cork.(but like many suspect one CM will go). Only thoughts on your team though are: a)those in bold have still to be signed, and may yet prove difficult to complete ( Rojo for one), b)can't see us signing Ings to be a sub, or Van Dyke c)aren't we expecting a 4-3-3 or 3-5-2 or whatever, from Koeman ?
