  1. Yes, team selection of the full backs was a little baffling. Redmond - touted on here, but perhaps we don't scout lower leagues as we have moved on to greater goals of the "next level" and recruit from a 'better' calibre of player .
  2. Two bookings in two games. Both arguably unjust, but we knew there was a disciplinary issue and short fuse before he came. At least this is an area in which he will live up to his billing. Perhaps Big Vic always has an off day and gives a low key performance after a heady European night at Parkhead. Someone has to explain to him that this is no longer an acceptable excuse. Your comment is a little unfair though, given how well he has performed in the first two games. That said, I agree Cork should be called back to the midfield with Morgan.
  3. Osvaldo - I think it was said after he joined that we had agreed a deal with Roma in May, but presumably he wanted to see what else was on offer. If he lives up to expectation - or just hope - then fine, but frankly I think we had time to seek an alternative rather than someone who didn't really want to be here. The reaction though is not just on todays result though is it ? Last week v Sunderland, a lot of huff and puff, but not convincing and we failed to take chances. With some poor defending thrown in. This for me is the crux of the matter, and something very few want to face up to: Its been a sideways move, rather than upwards move as far as results are concerned. Lovren has improved the defence no doubt, but whether our midfield performances and striking options have improved remains to be seen.
  4. No - not from a season long loan (to my knowledge).
  5. I noticed this with a bit of interest as his name was put on here as a possible target after being given a free transfer from Malaga. I suspect this was laughed off by many as not good enough, too old etc. Now he's going to Man City for £2.5m. Today, Redmond had a good game against us, scoring for Norwich who signed him for £2m . But of course we no longer look at up and coming players from lower leagues, as we - some fans, Chief Exec in particular - believe we are above this as we go up to "the next level". Lets spend millions instead, the we can be a bit more mediocre than we were before.
  6. Difference being that "ours" was in the first half, whilst still 0-0 , so perhaps a more critical time of the game. Interesting no one mentions another debatable refereeing decision, to award us a penalty in the last minute v WBA. No doubt mentioned on the WBA's sites but not here. Lets be honest we've seen similar appeals not given. So where would we be in the league without that ?
  7. It probably won't happen, but I'm disappointed we've not strengthened in the GK dept. We're only an injury to Boruc away from a problem here.
  8. I certainly wish him well, he was an integral part in turning our fortunes round and propelling us back up the leagues. As others have said, a good honest hardworking bloke, no frills or pretensions - unlike the greed and grasp of the Premiership; but that - sadly in some ways - is where we all strive to be. Agree, there are others who contributed to this as well who have been jettisoned - Barnard for example. In fairness though, I think Hammond probably had found his level in the Championship. If anything found out on occasion. That said, he often offered more than his own ability in organising others around him.
  9. We should definitely tell Fulham to 'shove it'. The one point that no one has mentioned in this thread though, is IF Cork is attracted to the move, and the prospect of being regular first choice at Fulham. That might give a little more possibility to this.
  10. Sherriff at Espanyol wasn't it ?
  11. Anthony Wedgewood Benn, or Tony Benn as he used to be, now that would be a revelation !
  12. Lee Molyneaux = totally crap and forgettable footballer and human being. The nearest thing that useless f^cker will ever get to the Premiership, or even Everton or Saints, is writing about it on Twitter.
  13. B0ll0cks !!
  14. Bit worrying, or just an unfortunate pose ?
  15. I'm not old enough to remember him playing, but his face and voice were certainly a part of my youth watching sport on the box. Always seemed a gentleman.
  16. Surprised no one has mentioned his other fetish in song " tie me kangaroo down...".
  17. Agree. I heard on the radio last week that the French Govt were "calling for action..". Good idea, I thought, now why don't you get on with it ? But of course we know they have the good sense to sit back and wait for us and the Yanks to get involved and take the burden of the cost. Tonight we hear Cameron hinting at "not standing by .."etc. No thought as to the cost to the country. At a time we are facing cuts at home and the NHS could do with some investment, Cameron is pre-occupied with policing the arab world.

    Flag

See to recall a Hampshire Flag company , although they might have a PO postcode so not encouraging at first ! Edit: From google : http://www.hampshireflag.co.uk/
  19. Fair comment in the article, although as a Saints fans we might say he's stating the obvious. Two separate issues as I see it. One is not "breaking teams down" and creating anything. The other, as per Saturday I thought, is not taking the chances we do create. Had Ron Davies in his prime been on the end of Osvaldo's precision cross rather than Rodrigues (who tamely headed it to the GK at a height he did not have to even stretch for) then things might be different.
  20. Very good. Probably better in a Scots accent as in the joke:Q What's the difference between Bing Crosby & Walt Disney ? A : Bing sings, and Walt dis'nae
  21. We have got into a ritual of pre-match food at the stadium, after the trip down from Glos. So, disappointed if the pasties have gone. A bit bland sometimes, but at least reasonably filling. My sons thought the hot dog pretty average on Saturday .The alternatives are poor in my view, the burgers resemble cardboard coated with meat extract. Recall the trip to Middlesbrough and there was a better selection for pre-match grub. Probably won't resort to one of the Salmonella Express vans around the ground, so we'll have to rethink our strategy for match day grub ,pub or rolls. If I wasn't driving the pub would win hands down.
  22. But its still a source of revenue the club would rather have going into its coffers than not all. Bearing in mind the club look to extract a parking charge midweek, if you stay in the club shop longer than the limit they set (can't recall if its 30 or 45 minutes), a captive market of bodies in the concourse, many wanting some solids to soak up some beer, should not be overlooked. You forgot the tartan blanket to keep your knees warm.
  23. No, ridiculous to sell him, he'll be an integral part of our season this year as he was last. We are fortunate to be in the position we no longer need to sell to buy.

    Pablo Piatti

Now that would be a good acquisition. At the time the name Lamela first appeared, I wondered why perhaps we did not try buying upcoming South American players direct from Argentina, or Brazil rather than after wait until they had made a name - and clocked up a £12 - 20m price - in Italy.Or in the case of Piatti, until his career has come off the rails a little. Possibly the answer is uncertainty as to how they settle in Europe, or wanting to see them play in a better league standard, or does playing in Italy first make a work permit easier ? I read on a site that Roma want Lanzini before agreeing the sale of Lamela, so it would be good to scupper that deal and p1ss the yids off in the process ( Don't forgive them for the Bale deal, and lumbering us with Forecast.)
  25. I'm sure we'll get some publicity out of it, although there will be a bit of ridicule and smirking along the way for a club and a chairman in particular who negotiated away a lucrative sell on clause. Bath Academy - yes we do, but Bristol City have in recent years challenged it as they believed it was an infringement in their area. I was pleased to hear that Bath was still going strong though, as a few years ago the Skates were quite triumphant in recruiting our scout/coach there, Rob Ruddock (?) I think, and how it signalled a change in the balance of power in the south. Wonder how their academy - no doubt sponsored by ASBO - is coming along ?
