It won't happen of course, because we have unconditional support for our club, but any private business is ultimately shaped by it's customers. The problem was that the Labour Govt believed that they had abolished boom and bust (or at least said and acted like they did). It's all very well saying that to stimulate growth in a recession you spend money, but the other side of the coin is that you pay down debt in the growth years. Labour were like a guy who earns big bonus' year after year and spent it all instead of saving some for the years he didn't get a bonus. We were ill equipped to face the oncoming economic storm. Not that the Cameron/Osborne wing of the Tory party were any better, they promised to stick to Labour's spending plans if you remember. Real reforms to welfare that the Government are making now, capping it, reducing WFTC for people on decent wages, abolishing family benefit to the wealthy, should have been made during the boom years. Personally as bad as this Government is , I would rather have it making the tough choices than Balls and Milliband. One further point on Huhme, he got £17,000 severance pay, when he stepped down as a minister. Surely Clegg and the squeaky clean Lib/dems should call for him to pay this back. He is a millionaire after all.

This is spot on, tells you all you need to know about the bloke. Stood in front of the BBC cameras when it was first brought up and lied. Said he was going to fight this injustice and clear his name, what he really meant was, I did it but want to try and get off on a technicality and save my career. Lib/dems make me laugh banging on about PR all the time, this seat is an exact example of why pure PR would be no good for them. If everybody voted with their political views in mind, they would not stand a cats chance in hell of winning this seat. They win it because Labour supporters vote to keep the Tory out. Under pure PR there would be no need to and their vote would shrink, and the same goes for countless seats right across the country. My hope is that Farage stands, and the people make this a mini referendum on Europe.

You have to take the emotion out of it and accept that in this league any points away from home is a pretty good result. Add to that the fact that only Reading gained any ground on us, and we should be pretty satisfied. Looks like we'll be out of the bottom 3 next week no matter what, with both manc club fixtures behind us. Throw into mix Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton,Liverpool away games gone and I'm feeling pretty confident. Only really spurs away looks like a "no chance" game and they've been known to wobble. Provided we avoid defeat to both qpr and reading we'll be fine. We have enough win able games left that avoiding defeat to those around us (as we did today) is a good result.

On another forum they are talking about starting again 4 levels down, the deluded half wits are discussing attendances and the chances of getting around 8,000 in the non league. One reply that has to be a **** take. "Hey, excluding the cups as far as I'm aware we haven't dropped below 10k. And tbh, 8000 might be a bit optimistic but if we're tonking the opposition every week, there could be maybe... 4-5k. I think we'll be fine Injuries are part and parcel of the game and anyone of the bottom 7 will suffer as the back Ups are not really up to it. We've lost Jose and AL yet are on a decent run of form. Gone are the days when an injury to matt would have meant certain relegation. Norwich, west ham, Fulham will all get dragged in to it if they lose a few to injuries. All the teams below us will suffer if hit by injuries, even rangers who throw money around. Personally i think villa are going, reading aren't good enough and i reckon third slot will be between rangers and Norwich, with us and Wigan safe before last weekend. West ham are pretty poor and fat Sam ain't that popular, i could see them slipping into it.

Complete and utter nonsense. There is a difference between chucking everyone forward and the way we played last night and if you cant tell the difference I would stop advising others to study the game. The difference last night was that our central midfield played further up the pitch and pressed the ball higher up the pitch. We pressed as a unit, whereas earlier in the season we didn't, this meant sides could pick us off and have clear 2 on 1's particularly down the sides. When we pressed we did so in isolation, sides could get out easy. Adkins changes were around getting protection for the full backs, but the defensive midfield players still played deeper than they did last night.

There aren't many teams that can go to OT and dominate them like we did second half. I was impressed with the way we played and took the game to them after the break. Dont think Nigel would have changed 2 like that as it would have been very unlike him. But, we just dont know what result we would of got had he still been in charge. Taking Nigel's line and drawing a line under his era , I'm pleasantly surprised how well we played and how the players appear to be wanting to play for this guy. One thing's for sure we will play a lot worse and pick up points. If we play like that all season we'll be safe, no bother.

So what do we do with lazy British people who whine on programmes like QT and Newsnight that "there are no jobs". I've no problem with having a welfare state that helps people out whilst they are temporary in a bad place, but if Bulgarians and Romanians can come over and get jobs there must be some out there for Brits to do. I had Polish workers working for me and they were fantastic a credit to their families and their country. We pay just above the minimum wage and it's pretty boring work, I had an accountant and other highly intelligent Poles willing to do this job. Before they came all I got was wasters and **** artists sent to me by an agency. So I've nothing against Eastern Europeans, but what I object to is paying some toe rag to sit on his arse all day claiming he cant get a job. It appears to me that by "a job", a lot of Brits mean "a job I like" or a "job that matches my skill set", whereas a lot of Eastern Europeans are prepared to do anything to get a foot hold.

Where has this No thanks to Nigel stuff come from, Le Tiss says in the article “I must be honest, a lot of what was said made sense, but still not thanks to Nigel. That is disrespectful.". The statement from the club clearly stated "The club would like to thank Nigel Adkins for his service over the past three seasons, and wish him well for the future." It is the twisting of things that gets to me, from both the media ,ex players and Managers. Nigel was sacked, what do they expect a gushing tribute, a piece in the programme about him? He was sacked,I cant think of one manager sacked who was treated any differently. A brief thank you and lets move on. My personal opinion is after they so called experts were wrong over Pardew's sacking, they cant come out and disagree totally, so pick stupid little points over the "way it was handled".

The Lib/dems had exactly the same commitment as the Torys, their manifesto said "The European Union has evolved significantly since the last public vote on membership over thirty years ago. Liberal Democrats therefore remain committed to an in/out referendum the next time a British government signs up for a fundamental change in the relationship between the UK and the EU". The Torys never promised a straight in/out vote. Cameron's "cast iron guarantee" was a con job, it was over the Lisbon treaty, which as he knew full well would already implemented when he came to power. Both parties wanted the public to think they'd promised an in/out vote but in reality they promised a vote only after another treaty change, knowing full well there wont be a treaty for a number of years. The project will pause to take breath, slow down and then sneak another treaty through, when it's politically expedient to do so.

We wont get an in/out referendum until the Europhiles are 100% certain that we'll vote the "correct" way. All 3 major parties have lied to the British people, remember this was an Economic community that we joined, they said there would be no loss of sovereignty to worry about. Labour have always been all over the place on Europe, from putting leaving in their manifesto to the implantation of anything our Brussels masters decree. So there's always a chance they'll follow the electorate and the votes like they did last time they were so out of touch on this issue, but I doubt it. The Torys and the Europhiles are going to pull the wool over the eyes of the British electorate again on Europe, and the other European "partners" are going to be complicit in the deception.It's clear what's going to happen, our Euro "partners" are going to allow some tinkering around the edges, allow Cameron to come back saying "vast" amounts of Sovereignty have been won back. In reality nothing of any substance will have changed, but the French and German approach and words at the moment are designed to add to this con. Basically the more they protest now, the more Cameron can look like he's negotiated a great deal when they throw him the scraps. Then he'll put this "great deal" to the British public, last time it was ONLY a common Market, this time it'll be ONLY a single market. All 3 parties will swing behind the Single Market and the mark will be conned again. It will give them another 40 years to move the project further down the road, before the British people start demanding a vote again. Make no mistake, this is not about anything other than "managing" British public opinion and getting the public to butt out of interfering with the Project. There is one man who I believe can throw a spanner in the whole establishment plan, and the funny thing is that man is a committed Europhile. Step forward Mr Salmond, more than Farage, Salmond is the man that can bust open the dam. If the Jocks vote to go it alone, basically the English will decide the fate of the project and there is more chance of an out vote then.

Guillem Balague was on H&J Talksport Friday afternoon and he said that MP spoke ok English, yet Talksport and others still keep saying he cant speak English. There is a world of difference in answering press questions, than communicating with multi national footballers.

Yes but according to some on here football wasn't as good in those days, because loads of different teams won the FA cup. What they fail to understand is that there was football before Sky, and Lawrie managed in an era when 3 English teams were Europe's number 1 team and when English sides carried off 7 European cups in 8 years.Add to that 3 winners of the Uefa cup and 2 winners of the European cup winners cup. To manage a club like Southampton to regularly finish in the top 5 or 6 season after season was a fantastic achievement. English football sides dominated Europe and we were in there competing with them. To compare Nigel Adkins achievements to Lawrie's is laughable. Ted and Lawrie stand head and shoulders above any other Southampton manager. Anyone who thinks he was some sort of Ron Manager clearly knows nothing about the guy or his style of management and style of play.

Apart from winning the FA cup, getting to the League cup final, finishing runners up, signing the worlds best keeper, signing the European footballer of the year, bringing on youngsters and qualifying for Europe 3/4 times, what did Lawrie do for the club.

But nobody slags his playing ability. Even Nigel Adkins himself would be embarrassed that somebody thought he did a better job than Lawrie.

Perhaps someone could provide an example of where a manager was sacked and then got an honorable mention in the next programme. Kevin Keegan just said on Talksport it never happened to him. Perhaps someone has an example of where it has happened before.

That doesn't mean his achievements should be forgotten, and people can come out with rubbish.

Keegan has just been on talksport saying the same happened to him, so it is not an isolated incident. Has there ever been a manager sacked, that then had a mention in the next programme.
