You can tell football's back for another season, the nights draw in, motd is on and some saints fans attempt to convince themselves and others that Gaston is somehow not an unmitigated disaster of a signing who is better off poncing about in a softer league.

Free kicks are subjective, one Ref may think it is one may think its not. Line decisions are factual, as are decisions about who the ball last touched before going out of play. Lets see if people are so relaxed about it when a similar thing happens to us .

Just watching stoke v hull game and the basic flaw in this goal line technology has been exposed. For anyone who didn't see it ; obvious throw to hull given to stoke, ball thrown in and following a scramble technology is used to award goal. Ref and lino clearly didn't know if it crossed line , but gave goal. So we basically had technology to overrule a mistake in stokes favour whilst not doing so for a clear mistake seconds earlier.

Pelle is on a hiding to nothing. The premiership is hard enough to adjust to without following a club legend and the lack of service into the box he's getting. Its not going to get any easier next week because fat Sam's centre half will love the physical battle. He needs a tap in or a scruffy one going in off his arris. Hope he plays in midweek and boosts his confidence. His lack of movement is a worry, he played in a straight line , down the middle up against the centre halfs all game. Never once were they dragged out of position or dragged into areas they are uncomfortable in. I know we were spoilt with Rickie , drifting wide or picking up the ball in " the hole" , but he doesn't even pull onto the full backs or run the channels . I think RK should have played Long and introduced Pelle gradually, rather than the other way round. As for the supporters reaction, its pretty poor. He wants to play for us and Morgan doesn't, yet Morgan gets his name sung. It will be interesting to see what the away support is like towards him next week.

The problem with Townsend is where he's coining from. Surely spurs will want Morgan involved in any deal or will play hard ball over any fee. Does anybody really think levy is going to be reasonable over the fee if we continue to block attempts to sign Morgan

It was as bad as the first home game last season against Sunderland and the Wigan one the year before . I thought the support was pathetic today both in numbers and atmosphere . Too many people round me were moaning and going on about "last year " and missing so and so. The cheering of Pelle when he got his head on something was truly shocking , way to make a newbie feel confident . ****ing makes me laugh , sing Morgans name even though he'd go tomorrow if he could and moan about blokes who want to play for the club. Put lambert up top today , with that side and service in his second premiership game and see what he would do. Very average performance . I thought MS went through the motions a bit , and I'm not convinced about JWP in this more forward role, just didn't get on the ball enough . I'd have swapped him and SD or played a 2 with Long up top. Pelle is only going to be effective when he's got support. Disappointed that Gaston has broken a nail again and is missing , there really is nothing after Long coming off the bench to change things. I'm not a fan of Townsend but he can excite the crowd and worry sides like WBA. Days like today we need a spark from the bench

Your opinion is that AB hasn't done anything wrong , RK obviously feels differently . Spending £10 mil on a keeper suggests to me he doesn't rate Boruc. It's up to Boruc to prove him wrong , or he could throw his toys out of the pram and Leave him feeing he defo made the right call. The reason Boruc didn't walk straight into the first team was he was unfit. FF had already played 2 champions league games. Boruc wasn't left out because of some loyalty to kelvin or Gazza it was because he had put on some timber and was clearly not match fit .

Talking of KD, what is the difference between Nigel Adkins getting Artur in because he did not feel kelvin was good enough and RK doing the same this season. Nothing, the only difference was the reaction of the "dropped " keeper .

I thought the reception he got was slightly ott, but I wouldn't get my knickers in a twist over it. I think it was just a combination of factors that meant the majority , and it was the majority , got a bit carried away. First off , the man is a saints legend and it was our first chance to "thank " him and send him on his way. Secondly , I got the feeling that people wanted to show the difference between Rickie and Lovren , I maybe wrong but I certainly thought that contributed to it. The atmosphere in the away end was also pretty buoyant , a mixture of defiance , pride and a little bit of relief that maybe things will be ok this season. Certainly at the end there was a defiant OWTS, and a great reception for the team. All these factors meant that people got a bit carried away with the Lambert love in. Perhaps the " one Rickie Lambert " whilst the game was on was a touch embarrassing , but none of my scouse mates mentioned it afterwards. Clapping when he came on and at the end, with a blast of " one Rickie Lambert" as he departed was probably the right tone, but at the end of the day I've heard and seen a lot more embarrassing stuff from our supporters than what happened Sunday.
