Unrealistic? If expecting the keeper to make important saves at important moments during a game is unrealistic, then I must be. Nobody has said he was responsible for the scoreline that’s just a straw man (or straw hands) argument. What people are saying is he’s not good enough and unless he shows significant improvement he will cost us points & he won’t win us any. Saturday was proof of what some of us have been saying for months. He’s fucking pony, he lets too many goals in & doesn’t make anything other than routine saves. Whether we’re stuck with him or not, that is the case. There really isn’t a debate about his capabilities, he’s bang average at best. I think we could and should do better.

Don’t be daft. A decent keeper saves the 3rd & the 5th. That 3rd goal just before half-time killed us stone dead. It changed the course of the second half. Minutes before half time, the talk was all about how important it was for Sunderland to go in with a 2 goal advantage, that they had struggled to hold onto leads & 2-0 is a nervous score line. All of a sudden Baz Ball made it irrelevant & pretty much killed the game. It’s beyond belief that anybody rates this bloke. He clearly wasn’t good enough last year, and doesn’t look anything other than bang average this.

I’m pleasantly surprised how many points we’ve got so far, and on paper the transfer window looked ok (although I’d have liked a couple of pirates in). However, there are worrying things about the first month. Firstly he seems wedded to Baz in nets, & secondly he doesn’t seem to be able to organise us defensively, it’s also slightly worrying that the most coherent & effective we’ve looked was in the first half of the first game. I guess it’s the uncertainty since that’s had an effect and we can now move forward. I imagine he knows it’s shit or bust so maybe that might encourage him to be a bit more pragmatic. Promotion is the be all and end all, I couldn’t really care less how it’s achieved, but I wish we’d get it in the mixer a bit more.

He wasn’t “much worse”, thats pretty much impossible. I keep reading this pony over & over again, as if the back ups being as shite is a defence of him. Nobody will be saying “give Janny B a break because Holgates even worse”will they? No, they’ll be saying he’s fucking pony. You mention Jones and one thing that’s 100% certain is, had Jones brought Baz with him from Luton, you and everyone sticking up for him would have been agreeing how fucking useless he’s been since.

Most keepers do 3 things. 1. Make really good saves 2. Make saves they should make. 3. Make errors. He only does the last 2. Any shot or header anywhere near the corner or struck decently is a goal. You can analyse the goals he’s conceded all you want, but a championship keeper should be saving some of the ones he lets in that aren’t outright howlers. He doesn’t save anything a third of fourth tier keeper wouldn’t save. Fucking hell, he’s either the unluckiest keeper in the world, every shot on target is unsaveable or he’s fucking pony. I know which one I think it is

Holgate clearly pony, but he shouldn’t have been playing, chucked under a bus by the manager. I thought he said it would take players a while to get used to his unique brand of football, so therefore why the fuck didn’t he continue with the centre half pairing that finished the QPR game. Baz is clearly pony, he’s going to cost is far more points with his Julian Clary wrists than he’ll gain us with his Hoddlesque distribution. What worries me is Sunderland laid down the blueprint of how to beat us, and we’ll just continue to play the same way. The only bloke who can look himself in the mirror tonight is KWP.

Our centre halves are told to pass the ball out when it’s obvious they can’t do so, so that’s down to the manager. But the goal keeping, fucking hell. He really is fucking pony.
